That is a gorgeous table! Rosewood is just fantastic despite it's tendency to delaminate if it isn't stored properly. The restoration turned out beautifully, and I like that the repairs were done without needing to refinish it.

Tom: What scraper are you using there. I have one, but its old, and I cant read the name. Been wanting to find another one for years. Got this one in cabinet making school 15n years ago. Thanks......

Thanks Richard! That's a great scraper - and they don't make them anymore - I don't know why! You sharpen like a chisel and wow. I think it says "Pro-Paint" on the handle but it's very difficult to read. Here's a fascinating page: www.google.com/search?source=univ&tbm=isch&q=pro+paint+scrapers&client=firefox-b-1-d&fir=7CGINHj0_pPjcM%252Ctq6NNTsdWoNbBM%252C_%253Bko7eeDOiiXn3LM%252CGRxXLddnp3U_IM%252C_%253BmnEXm0AgTjiC8M%252C_KLeAY5SKQKE8M%252C_%253B3IAHyN7CXexZZM%252CSNwnT3ZWAlcakM%252C_%253BeXK_tZzBOUtiTM%252CS7glhpMBiFp0ZM%252C_%253BtZ_ftc3jabrPcM%252CIs719d544CboZM%252C_%253BZfDH3rYLrk-7aM%252CfaCaBRBw71IZhM%252C_%253BMmLpkLCfd0UdKM%252CXkpeOvbdZ-aQSM%252C_%253B2fVBuXOR3fI3LM%252C_KLeAY5SKQKE8M%252C_%253BRu_Nd6UfLsABRM%252CpNbefi1oInp0uM%252C_&usg=AI4_-kSbgumhcvdyAEN7kyO6ylaIKkxFxA&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjt4M64y4_7AhWhkokEHQWdAEMQ420oAHoECCEQCA&biw=1647&bih=863&dpr=1

Tom: Thanks for the info. Much appreciated. Would you believe, nearly every scraper in the universe is in that list....except the one I want. Wow! Anyway, I thank you for the effort. The one i'm looking for is at 2:43 in the video. Just can't quite read the name. Mine is totally worn off. I'll just have to keep looking. Thanks

Fine, fine job Tom. I must agree with longer vids...they are too awesome to be this short. What polish did you use and why did you use it instead of the Feed N Wax? I love F-N-W and would think it would have worked well in this application, but you're the expert :-)
@johnsonrestoration9 жыл бұрын
Craig in PA Thanks! This table had a lot of water spots, etc. that I'm not sure would have come out with the FNW. Especially the base, so it was easier just to use french polish. Tom

How does the wax work over time? Does it really do the job of filling in and staying there?
@johnsonrestoration5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Good question! I think it does, although if the joint or crack keeps expanding and contracting it could come out. I figure it has a much better chance than a hard putty
