I absolutely love your videos. I’m not a watchmaker, I don’t even wear watches. But I love to watch any master craftsman working at what they love, and I like you in particular because of your sense of humor and the little silly bits you put in your videos. I love it that your children are often involved instead of shushed and sent away like most do. And the sweet kindness you seem to treat everything and everyone with. This is a safe place in an uncertain world, and such places become more precious by the day. Thank you for the giggles, and the calm, and the beauty of your art form.🤗🐝❤️

You're the only watchmaker here on YT that actually takes the time to do serious refinishing work on the cases. Everyone else just glosses right over it or does absolutely nothing. That's why we love you the mostest.

i agree, almost completely. There are a few times when a watch needs to be sympathetically restored, keeping the history and patina. I think in cases of family heirlooms, watches with a significant history (you know the one that stopped a bullet and saved a guy). But a trashed watch that otherwise would be thrown away, restoring it to full glory only makes sense to me. There is no widow to rember how this or that dent or scratch happened. No child to remember "grandpas old worn out watch". In these cases, let the watch start fresh and live its own life. Now this doesn't mean just replace the guts and anything that is "too far gone". This was a perfetct example...he rebuilt that messed up part (im not a watchmake and don't remember the name of the part). but he didn't want to just replace it because it had a special finish. Anyways great video and I liked your comment and agree that many people just cop out by "wanting to keep the integrity." Nah there's a time and place. Peace

As beautiful as they turn out, I think I would get addicted to plating all cases. For some reason I really wanted him to plate that caseback on this one.
@thermmaloverload

@@josephiudice8287 I think there is middle ground and "restoration" could be a whole range or spectrum Sentimental watches aside, the finished job needs to be consistent. In this video the case was really bad but the dial was stunning, so fully re-doing the case was a no brainer because it matched the dial. But if a watch dial has a weathered look with lots of 'patina' then fully restoring the case can look weird. My favourite watch is a 1952 Omega and I love that it has had a life of wear on who knows how many wrists. Who am I to erase that. So I think there is a fine line and Nekid nailed it on this video. Whatever he does, it is always exceptional and he is one of my favourite watchmakers. Marshall over at Wristwatch Revival also puts a lot of thought into how far he takes a restoration.

I'm by no means a machinist, but I have had a chance to make a few parts on both a lathe and a mill. Every time you make some sort of miniscule something it blows my mind. I had no idea taps that small existed, but now that I'm thinking about it, of course they do.

I love how you display such a great deal of adoration, patience and engagement for your children, I'll wager they are your best friends, and you are theirs. You ARE the watchman. I have no reason to say this, you are not family, nor friend BUT you are the absolute pinnacle of repair person. I love the childlikeness you exhibit, the whimsical way you perform absolutely mind boggling things such as the repair of the pivot post where you video in macro to downplay the threading of the pivot yet those who know see that when you hold it, it is like 3 or 4 fingerprint ridges wide yet you TAPPED it to accept a screw. From one whimsical mechanic (you being a micro mechanic and I being a macro mechanic) deepest respect and admiration for your heart and your ability in your craft... Bows to you sir.

I hardly ever comment on YT videos but had to log in to comment on this one. Your skill, precision, and patience for your craft is simply remarkable, and very inspiring. So many other people would have given into temptation to replace that click bridge with the matching extra part, but it gave me great satisfaction to see you try so hard and succeed to repair it! Absolutely fantastic work. I've been a prototype R&D machinist for 16+ years and have worked on all kinds of weird stuff, some of big, some of it small, but nothing that small! I think most of the chips I make while cutting metal are bigger than that bushing was. Thanks for a soothing way to kill the better part of an hour.

Not sure how I got hooked on watch maker videos but I'm really enjoying them. I love your energy and the joy you share in your videos, it's contagious and most appreciated. Thank you!

I know this video is a year old but since the Israel conflict with the Palestinians, I've sought refuge here watching these videos. I'm so emotionally burned out and sad to my soul and being here gives me a bit of a break from what's going on. Your words at the end are so fitting for what's happening at the moment. Thanks for your videos and a place to come watch you tinker. Fellow tinkerer in other things.
