Restoring A Rusty Winchester Model 67a With a Broken Barrel. Will It Ever Fire Again? YOU DECIDE.

This old Winchester Model 67 .22 caliber rifle has been in my wife's family for decades. In recent years its been severely neglected. Its extremely rusty, missing the bolt, and the barrel lug has snapped off the barrel. We'll see about cleaning up and bluing the barrel, and refinishing the walnut stock. It should be a fun project and a good excuse to put the old south bend lathe and the index vertical mill back to work. Thanks for watching!

I have one of these . It was tucked into the corner of a closet , somehow overlooked , in a house i purchased back in 1999 . Great little shooter . Nothing fancy ....Was cool to see you bring it back to life ..

It's by far the simplest gun I've ever had my hands on apart from maybe an old wards Hercules single shot 12 gauge. Glad you enjoyed it.

I have a 67a, I purchased days after I got out of the Navy in Dec. 1972, at a pawn shop for $19.00. It is almost flawless, and a great shooter, I've probably put a couple thousand rounds through it, and a lot of small game in my belly.

I have 6 model 67s, and a 67A. I picked up another 67 without a bolt at an auction, priced a bolt for it, the complete bolts, they want more for a bolt than I paid for each of the ones I have. Even parts of bolts to make one came to more. It will go without a bolt, or maybe over time I MIGHT come across one.

When I refinished the stock on one of those old Winchesters I used a product called LinSpeed oil. Something like that. It worked well, I did apply a number of coats but I couldn't say how many today.

Forgot to ask ,,, is your lathe not centered , or is that baŕrel bent . Sure was wobbling a lot !

I think that's my high quality 3 jaw chuck. It was in pieces when I bought the lathe and I'm guessing it was disassembled for a reason. But I put it back together and figure its fine for stuff like this. I have a 4 jaw that I use when necessary and that seems to he much more stable.

@NorthwoodsNoise gotcha 👌,,,, I hope you're able to pick up a bolt at some point .. good little plinkers, but I get the cost effectiveness problem . These aren't worth much . $250.00 is more than the rifles' worth complete....

@@danlovett3697 that was exactly what i thought. I've seen these on the used rack for right around $100. Can't justify $250 on a bolt when I could pick up a few more project guns for that price.

I have a 67 handed down thru two generations. Picked up a 68 a few years ago that is a nice shooter for a Benjamin. Recently picked up two more 67s at auction for under a Benny. One of those is an early grooved stock. Shoots quarters at 25 yards all day.

Please recheck eBay for that bolt. They offer several for $150.00 and less. You can buy the entire rifle for that amount as well.

The take down screw should back out of the stock the same as it did from the barrel lug. And, yes, the bolt will cost you more than it should but nobody is making new parts for a Winchester 67 anymore. What is on the market is all there is. Keep checking to buy another 67 rifle on the used market that has a bolt but needs other work or ? I just bought a complete 67 at a gun show for $150.

Hell of an interesting idea. Dont think I'd do it with this one as it's a bit of a family heirloom despite being a piece of junk. Gonna keep my eyes open for another clapped out candidate and maybe do that in a future video.

@orbahumphrey5985 0 seconds ago I have a model 67 single shot in .22wrf. ADCCORDING to the Winchester history guy, it was made in 1934 by its markings. I have had it for 40 years and didn't think anything about its value. I am wheelchair bound an none of my children want my gun collection. It'll be up to my 83-year-old wife to dispose of them. I don't want her to be cheated when she sells them. Is there anywhere that I can get an idea what it is worth. By the way it has the same extractor problem. Could you maybe point me in the right direction to find about the value?
