Not only does the garden look so much better, Middleton got a new community activity/club. It has the potential to bring joy to both participants and visitors for years to come. The garden club will also ensure that Hopwood Hall continues to be a community project as long as it stays active.

You should offer "working vacations"; come to the Hall for a long weekend of getting your hands dirty, being pleasantly tired, knowing you are making lasting change, etc. You'd be surprised at how many folks, especially tech folks, would jump at the chance.

So glad the community are behind the work at the Hall. I have an idea for you. Why not do a Hopwood art competition as a fundraiser for the works on the gardens. Ask supporters and locals to produce some artwork with a donation entry fee and the winning entries get to be displayed in the hall and can be used for publicity too. Perhaps prizes for the top entries. You could possibly get people to vote online for their favourites to reduce them down to 10 and then run a final round of votes for the winners.

It’s so wonderful to see the community pitching in! I would suggest hiring a garden designer who works with historic estates. While well meaning, plastic pots and the modern wooden planters don’t work with the historic style of Hopwood.

My family came from The Dunkenhalgh in Rishton (previously De Blackburns) and I have read that all the squires (young lads) of the landed gentry would be sent at about age 9 to Middleton where they would be taught by Lord Assheton in the arts of war etc until age approx 16 when they would be eligible ; given conduct in actual combat to become a knight; therefore I am confident our ancestors once rubbed shoulders...

Wait did that lady say still roses coming up from.the 1700's 😱😳❔ 🌹Heavens 😲🤯 Saw an old photo from 1909 from my hometown with a horse pulling a man on a lawnmower ~ no fuel ~ just the horse power Every time I see your progress at Hopwood my mind blows out of my head 🤯 I am hyperfocussed on the fact that Lord Byron stayed here ~ The Playboy of the early 1800's ~ I picture a dining hall restored or patio dining area called The Lord Byron & Persian food served as he spent a lot of time there Lords & Earls OMG. You must secure a title Hopwood ~. The Duke ~ Lord Dupree ~ 🤔🇬🇧 Ummm Hmmmm ~. 21st Century Dude of Hopwood ~ P.S. You do.have a slight resemblance to Sir Lawrence Olivier ~ but his teeth were ugly You simply must be atleast knighted 👑
