The armor was used in a few attacks in ww1, you can even see them in a 70’s Italian movie about a real soldier that saw these armors in action. The armors where awful, their weight and small eye-holes severely reduced the speed and visibility of the soldier, and they were just a product of insane generals who sent thousands of men to die (like general Leone) I cannot remember the “utility” of the eye covers but surely nothing good nor smart.

I know this is from the WWI era, but I would kind of expect that armor during the Cold War era but with better armor technology and a bit better looking, but more by Russia with titanium. Edit: I hope Drae will touch up on many different weapons and technology in history so he doesn’t speak like he is more idiotic than he seems.

The only thing is that to my knowledge, restoring artifacts makes their value less than it was before. Usually they'll make a replica if they want a cleaner version.
@brrrrrr
@brrrrrr 2 жыл бұрын
That's weird. I'd perceive a clean artifact that you can see in all its beauty as higher value
@pedroperobelli9542
@pedroperobelli9542 2 жыл бұрын
@@brrrrrr The problem is that you are risking damaging the artifact or eveng totally destroying it. See old swords or shields for instance, they are usually left as they were found, rusted and even deformed by time. But I believe it depends. Paintings in some cases get restored if the paint condition is way to bad, but if the canvas is damaged, there probabbly wont be a restoration. It might look the artifact has a higher value when restored because its prettier, but the value rearely comes from condition with objects like these. Historical importance, age and rarity play a bigger role here. If an artifact is found in mint conditions then yeah, the value goes up like a rocket, but it is rare to happen.
@olenhol2przez4

@@pedroperobelli9542 by restoring artifacts you ruin possible scientific data you could possibly get from it in the future.
@arcticfox5118
@arcticfox5118 2 жыл бұрын
I also think it depends. In 99 cases out of 100 the most they do is "clean" them to a point you can reconize what it is such as a ships bell or cannon pulled from the ocean. Or glue a pot back together. Then again the MC in this game sounds like he was dropped on his head several times as a child.
@froheschwanz
@froheschwanz 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the provenance. If the wear and dirt help characterize part of the story, it is left. If it’s just “a thing,” or was probably well maintained when left to time, it is restored.

Okay, first of all: Who spraypaints old, original museum pieces?? Secondly: It's called "Pickelhaube", and the real thing isn't made of metal. It's a leather cap with a metal spike on top. EDIT: Later in the video, when the exhibition opens, the text for the thing even says "hardened leather". When he's restoring it it is clearly metal though. WTF?

The armor was used during WWI with the idea that your body is mostly (other than your face and chest) covered by a trench anyways. They would give it to guys on machine guns because while it didn't perform very well against anything but small arms fire they could help the wearer feel a bit "safer."
