It´s a NIMH battery so probably pretty easy todo. You can get new cells with solder taps applied. They can have a slightly different capacity as long as they´re the same physical size as the original ones (obviously). Maybe you can share a few photos of the inside, then i could figure out the arrangment of the cells and maybe the size you need. There are a few common types.

Awesome! I'm so glad the SCSI2SD worked! Did you know: The displays on the 68030 Duo line are swappable. If you want to make your 230 a color Duo, you can swap in the active-matrix color screen from a 270c. It'll be a frankenstein machine with no visible nameplate (since the 230 has its nameplate on the screen, and the 270c has its nameplate on the keyboard upper) Or, of course, if you find a 270c these days, you could restore that instead. 😂 Ooohhhh things I did in the early 2000s that I now regret.... Anyway, thanks for the video and the painstaking restoration! These were super cool little machines. Now all you need is the PowerPC version: the Duo 2300c. It'll fit right in your existing dock!

I repaired few of those, few notes: The original HDs can be repaired a lot of times as the rubber stop on the heads gets all sticky and the heads won't move out of the original position. Magnets on the heads need to be taken off and the rubber stop replaced. Also these laptops were from a era when manufacturers used capacitors prone to leaking. So if you want to preserve the machine, the recap is a good idea. There are some capacitors in the display itself that are also usually leaking and cause drifting contrast or other issues on these laptops.

But sadly, being an engineering professional, I cant use it since then as all soft is windows or Linux based. But what i can really say - old Apple devices were much better then those we see now in Apple store (quality, feeling, assembly). Your restorations - I watched them all - you do the great job, giving them a new life again.... Thank you for good videos and good mood.

Cool computer! I have an old Toshiba Techra 520 CDT that I bought used many years ago. It did come a dock which is very interesting. Dock has some nice speakers for great audio, several expansion slots for additional cards. It’s eject did not work because I did not have the key for it. That was an easy fix. As for the computer the hard drive now just clicks and computer would not boot up. The floppy drive no longer works since the drive belt snapped. This computer has some valuable software on it and I was lucky enough to find a shop that will try to recover all of the data from the drive. Need to find some belts for the floppy drive and new batteries for memory. As for the hard drive I have an IDE to M2 memory card hard drive adapter. Hopefully I can recover this machine so it can be used with the programs I have for it. My issue is that I no longer live in the states and here in Europe it’s difficult to find the supplies that I need.

To help with the yellowing. A cheap set up can be made that works 10 times better then the sun light. Take a tuffy clear one wrap it in tinfoil then place a uv light above it in a really dark room. Some people use uv leds to line the side and bottom which is better but cost more. Just doing it the cheap way is way better then just sun light though. Just make sure its filled above the plastic with 2 parts proxcide and 1 part water. This mixture can be reused. Itll turn the most yellowed thing white again.

Not sure if this is in the video or not, but these require an enabler to run 7.1, PowerBook Duo Enabler 1.0 or the older System Enabler 201 specifically. If you're going to install System 7.1 on a Mac that requires an enabler, it is far better to track down the original custom install disks for that particular model.

I believe in pro longing some of these old computers if they're still capable of working, especially for some old games but they're also very useful for another aspect. Any new films/tv dramas set in the 90's, 2000's and 2010's would benefit from these as props but restored to factory looking condition, cleaned and retrobryting so they look like they did when they came out.
