I’m glad that you show all the prep work and don’t sanitize it like so many big budget shows do. Prep is everything. You show people reality. Good for you Kevin. No BS. Thanks.
@paintucationАй бұрын
"Sanitize". That's a great way to put it..... Yeah, no need with KZbin... I'd rather show warts and mistakes that someone (and me) can learn from.

@@paintucation Sharing the actual sausage making makes you a friend. And just as with a veteran guitar, the "play wear" on that jack is telling it's story.

Hey Kevin. Just love your style. A very important reference you made to the so called ""reality" shows that just gloss over the hard yards like proper preparation and cleanliness. I'm usually pretty fussy, but you've reminded me to keep on being so, and not skimp on the hard stuff. More power to you. Steve (New Zealand).
@paintucationАй бұрын
Thanks Steve! That means alot! I'm not busting Cybertrucks or off-roading GT Mustangs, so we probably won't ever get a million views, but I enjoy this! It feels good to keep it honest. Thanks for watching!

Hey Kevin, I'm hooked to your channel and I'm learning a lot about the in's and out's of auto restoration. Thanks for sharing! I really enjoy how you explain all that you're doing. And, I really enjoy watching your channel when Derek swings by to check in with you on the progress of his lead sled. I'll be watching every episode to enrich my auto expertise. Regarding the walker floor jack... Just clean it up, leave the patina and the faded blue color. It has character now!

First and foremost- Happy Birthday! Regarding the jack - I believe we're about the same age. I've got scars, wrinkles, and gray hair - all earned. I believe the jack deserves the same. It's earned those marks of use and should wear them like a badge of honor. Hope I don't mess with your metrics, but I'll have to finish the rest tomorrow morning. Thank you as always ~ Chuck. *EDIT:* Just finished - looking great! I had to laugh at myself when you were pulling the tape from the seam sealer. I get so focused on pulling the tape and the final product, that I typically forget about me. That leads to me looking like I've just been apprehended by the Amazing Spider-Man. Thanks again for all the tips, see you Tuesday.

Just keep doing what you are doing Kevin. Seeing all the details and even the boring stuff is important. I hate the way the 30 minute TV shows have to skip over the most important parts due to time restraints. People watching your videos will get a real understanding of why it takes sometimes a year or two to completely restore a vehicle the correct way, and I love that.
@paintucationАй бұрын

Kevin, im going to go against the grain here , and say to restore the Walker jack. It is a great piece of equipment and has a good story behind it. By restoring it , you can preserve the beauty and style of our older generation , while ensuring that the next generation will know how important it is . just my 2 cents , but whatever you decide im sure it will be the best decision for you. best of luck . and absolutely love your content.

I agree. I've been watching a guy on YT called "Hand Tool Rescue" who takes old tools and machines from the late 1800s and early 1900s, tears them apart, cleans and repairs them, refinishes them, and returns them to their original shining glory. I think the Walker Texas Ranger jack is a candidate for that kind of restoration.

To be honest Kevin, I love the way that Jack looks. Clean it up with ice blasting, throw some shine juice to protect it. Mint. OR..... media blast it and throw a 40's style hit rod flame job on it. For cleaning bottom of the bed and frame I use Dawn power wash in my power washer, its great stuff! Then do the scuff and stuff for adhesion. Mines not for show so I get the gallon of Duplicolor bedliner. Goes on easy has a nice gloss and sticks to everything ( use gloves, it sticks to everything) the cleaner the better. Hopefully getting another truck next week, clean it up and flip it.

A little trick for those bolt holes. Use those foam ear plugs that you squish and put in. Spray them with the solvent 1st to make sure they are compatible with what your using, but I've done that with rustoleum spray bomb and it worked perfect. That will eliminate the red squares from covering the holes
