After seeing how Janie's kitchen turned out, I am making some changes to how I rework my kitchen in the coming year. It's a total gut job (doublewide). Was going all white farmhouse, but have decided to add more color. I inherited my mother's Fiesta dishes and some Wedding Ring milk glass, as well as some 1950's tablecloths. I also have some green glass, cobalt glass, and cranberry glass to add splotches of color. Wish I had a true farmhouse on my farm, but that isn't possible, so I'm making do with what I have.

I would love to see your before and after kitchen redo. Adding some of your Mom's green glass, cobalt and cranberry glass will look amazing. Your Momma's 1950's Tablecloths will add so much too. I only have a bit of what my Momma gave me before she passed with 4 younger sisters they took the rest. I always asked for a few of their wine glasses but don't have any. I love you in Christ. Hugs from northern California.

I envy your milk and colored glass. I'd have them lined up on shelves where the sun could, ideally, shine through them but if not, at least get to them. Wavy or bubbled glass fronted cabinets? I'm excited for you. :)

My husband and I have just recently found out about your channel, so this was great to be able to get up to speed on all your projects. We live in a house built in 1910 that we restored 13-14 years ago. We love old houses like you do. Our old house was very plain when it was built, so we salvaged a lot of old house parts and gussied it up a bit. We love watching your channel! It’s funny that you live in Conway, Arkansas. I have been subscribed to a channel of a gardening family who just moved from Vilonia to South Carolina. I live in Idaho, so that’s a funny coincidence to me.Also, I’’ve been subscribed to Paige’s channel for a long time and she said she’s a friend of yours. Small world.

Laine, I wonder if you would be interested in looking at some of the houses in Bramwell, WV. The history of the town is amazing. It’s a one square mile town with huge homes built in early 1900’s by coal barons. History tour says that in 1911 there were more millionaires per capita in Bramwell than anywhere in US. Some have been restored but some are big,beautiful treasures just wasting away. I would love to see someone like you get involved.

Thanks for providing an overview of what y'all are doing, I'm a recent viewer and this helps to get in to the "loop." My wife and I have spent the last 42+ years restoring an 1899 National Register Edwardian home in a small South Carolina town and moved another house of similar vintage to our farm . Neither will ever be totally "finished." We are now redoing projects which were first completed decades ago. Two can be overwhelming, five is hard to imagine. As a "purist" I commend your dedication to preserving these homes, not remodeling them. Most "old house" print and electronic media have, unfortunately, now become simply advertising outlets for expensive restoration products or services. You keep the enthusiastic preservation spirit alive without which restoration can become a self defeating exercise in frustration. Our Restoration Nation gives a morale boost to many of us perpetually in the thick of the restoration process. At the very least, we know that we're not the only ones still demented enough to take on such endeavors! Bless you!

I don't know why, but I can't stop mourning Louise! There is no way a new house can equal an old house, no matter what they do it it. The only way I can maybe understand it is that the old houses develop an "aura" as they age. Love seeing all your houses.

I love watching you both. I learn so much and your enthusiasm is infectious. In this “throw away society” that we live in it is refreshing to see the old houses come back to life. A lot of our old houses in Australia are torn down to make way for apartment buildings and townhouses, which is a crying shame. I wish there were more people here who appreciated the history that comes with these gems. That is why I love anything old. I often wonder what the story is behind who owned a home and, if the walls could talk, what would they tell us. Keep up the good work. With best wishes from Down Under 😘💕🇦🇺

I love the fact that, well, I guess that I found you. You've been around forever but until recently, I never saw your channel. Meanwhile, my ex-husband and I managed to fully restore one house, that should probably be called a "Sears Kit Victorian" ** and it was quite a job. We then bought a marginally run down Ante-Bellum house (circa 1850) which, unfortunately, we were never able to finish. But I have always loved restoring (NOT renovating) and believe in it SO MUCH! I always knew there were others who felt the same but it is good to see your work and progress. My only wish is that might be able to find a partner in my area (the Mid-Atlantic area), especially for house tours or houses for sale. And, possibly, in other areas of the country so it really would be "national." Perhaps some day that would be possible. ** For any who don't know, in the early 20th century, Sears & Roebuck, Co. which was best known for its catalogues, even offered a a whole line of full house "kits" that one could buy. It included every single thing one needed to build an entire house and was intended to help people, especially in the western states, so they would have everything, right down to the nails and fretwork, for any kind of house style available at the time. If you do a google search for "Sears House Kits," there's much more information about them.

My MIL was born in 1913, and a big YES to being frugal! She even used the back side of adding machine tape .... seriously! She earned her money through hard work. Invested wisely, but consistantly. I think I appreciate how she was more now that I can understand some of her background. It truly does show how disposable we have become after seeing life through her eyes.

We recently purchased a Victorian,/Queen Anne cottage ( still not sure ) in south MS. It looks like some of your houses (the one you bought in Natchez) and was built in 1909. It was a bed and breakfast in my family since 1996 but my wife and I took it in to return to a home and for us to live in. We recently visited Natchez and got some decorating ideas now that the foundation repairs, heating and cooling, electrical and plumbing are done.

Thank you for the summary. For those of us who arrived late to the dance, this video is particularly helpful. My wife and I rehabbed a 1936 Norman French wreck two decades ago. Tell me more, Chris. I've never heard of Norman French. Droolworthy?
@mkofftiger
@mkofftiger 3 жыл бұрын
@@mala3isityMany Norman French houses have conical entries. Ours doesn't, decorative red brick and stone instead. It does have other features typical of the style: steep gable roof (sufficient height and windows to transform an attic into third floor usable space), dormers intruding into the fascia, stone lintels and entry surround, brick and stone construction, multiple double-hung windows. It was such a wreck when we bought it, the former owner began negotiating by saying that the asking price was for the land only. My wife had to ask if the house came with it! One plumber suggested that the master bathroom shower pan had been leaking since "the Truman Administration." It took a year; we survived, and the house did too, but there were times when it was touch and go. That's why I enjoy your videos so much. I love what you do for these places; I'm however no longer up to the task. God bless you, you're doing the Lord's own work by saving these places.

@@mkofftiger Your home sounds lovely. I love stone lintels. I've heard that really old ones had carvings in them. LOL on the Truman administration. Gables and dormers are a favorite, too. I like their videos, too, and agree their work is very important.

I can relate to the carpet thing. 😀 We owned a house in East Texas and realized that we were having some floor issues because of a leak by a door. When the repairman pulled up the carpet he said, "it's a wonder that someone hasn't fallen through the floor." And that would have been about a 5 ft. drop!😬

We have some beautiful Victorian, Mission style, Spanish style, Queen Anne homes, some have the Carriage house in back and iron fence and gates that came around the cape. We're in northern California next to a City established in 1854, that still has an old Brothel above a Saloon Restaurant where photographs were taken during Beckwourth Frontier Days that can be found online. I enjoy history to this day. I love you both in Christ. Hugs.

Thanks for sharing your updates on your houses. Louise was so beautiful and so glad you are honoring her memory by keeping her in the intro of your videos, I love how you both are like kids relaxing on her front porch, just precious. If you ever have reason to go through South Carolina go through Due West. They have the most amazing abandoned historical homes there and just outside the city. If I had a Kevin I would definitely be working on one. Thanks again for all you do and for sharing your adventures.

The houses are all beautiful but I think Janie is my soul child, as you put it :) That's so charming, by the way. I love your use of color. It's true to the era and evokes such a peaceful aura to enjoy. Thank you for the update on all of your houses and I look forward to every video. I do understand the couple of degrees shy of Hades reference here in Galveston and like you, I'm waiting restlessly for Fall. I can't wait to do more work on my 1920 house and carriage house. It's time for painting again on the exterior. Thank you for all of the hard work you're doing to restore these old treasures. Once they're gone, we've lost a valuable piece of our history and that would be truly heartbreaking. Many thanks and great appreciation to you from Texas.

I really enjoy every episode and love catching up with you daily on Instagram. I have always loved old homes since I was a child and have had two that I didn’t act on quick enough to get destroyed 😩 hopefully there will be another one come along one day that I can buy and restore. in the meantime I am loving all of the information that y’all so willing share!

Haha, I love that you call Conway a little town. It was a big town when I was growing about 30 minutes away in the country. :) Loved seeing the full update!
