Restoring our British Estate with Plaster, Paneling & Secret Doors | My Tiny Estate

We are back where we started at the Dower House; in the snug (which is what we Brits call a sitting room). When we first laid eyes on this and every other space in this long neglected Georgian manor/cottage -- every last bit of charm had been stripped out. One of our first projects in the snug was to add beams to the ceiling. We were thrilled to discover a very old and massive fireplace behind a wall! Today -- we are creating our own paneling, applying lime plaster, making secret doors and adding a hearth to the fireplace. Whew!
Also -- Borja’s mother is arriving from Spain. We’re excited for her to see the progress we’ve made and -- as always -- she’s offered to lend us a hand. She’s a great sport but she may change her mind when she discovers that she needs to sit inside an extremely dirty fireplace while wearing a gas mask!

please do not let complacence become a habit, results can be catastrophic…. please check your equipment then you PPE…Safety should always be your first concern … and as a side note please wear a mask when cutting stone etc…

I love, love, love that snug/sitting room the lime plaster, the paneling, the light, the fireplace and yes and the hidden cupboards, my husband (I'm a guy by the way) and I have been doing a Georgian house up for years bit by bit, and we do a similar thing of re-imaging and re-cycling everything, we also have a stach of things like you guys, amazing job

Love seeing Borja's fabulous mom! I always dreamed of having paneling in my living room so it was one of the first projects I did when I bought my house. Maybe you could show us on your drone footage or make a drawing where the cottage is. Also how far away is the dower house to your other project? For you it all sounds logical, for me it is very confusing. Please draw some layouts of the buildings (all the buildings) and gardens. Thank you.

Hello that is lovely to hear! Well we are filming tours of everything to add on the channel so people can understand as there are to many buildings. So far we have finished the caretakers cottage, Servants Quarters, Hay loft in the stables. We have left to do in the Main estate the Georgian House, Servants kitchens and the gardeners Cottage. We are currently restoring the Dower House . The tv show is called Saving the Manor I think in the Uk you could find it on discovery plus now? I am not sure it was on tv for few months

I wish I’d thought of the plywood sheeting - genius idea! I just added the timber panelling directly to the old horsehair plaster ten years ago. The overall effect looks good,but yours looks so much better.

We have explained before on other videos the lime is purely aesthetic, the dower house was throughly modernised I. The 2000 so there are stud walls, modern insulation and plasterboard, I aesthetically lime plastered over plasterboard
