I saw 3751 last year while riding a southbound Amtrak Surfliner from L.A. Union Station. A couple miles after departure we passed a locomotive service facility with a turntable and 3751 was on a turntable spur. The smokebox had a white tarp over it and a couple of workers were nearby. If you look at a satellite image you'll find this turntable just west of the mainline, right before it crosses E Washington Ave, and 3751 is clearly seen. Remember, southbound trains leaving L.A. Union Station actually back out, in a northerly direction, then a 180 degree right turn aims it south along the Los Angeles River's west bank. That's right, the front facing seat you enjoyed from San Luis Obispo to Los Angeles will be rear facing for the ride to San Diego!

Santa Fe engine 3751 is an impressive sight to observe in action, this locomotive was the first Santa Fe rr 4-8-4 type engine and it has significance of holding that title. I am glad that the 3751 was preserved and was eventually restored back to operating condition and now occasionally hauls excursion trains, ATSF owned an handsome & impressive fleet of 4-8-4 type locomotives and several examples have been preserved.

wow! Where can if actually get a real section of a railroad track? I would like to have at least one section of track at my house. Do you know if they are expensive to buy? Do you know if the steam engine are normally on neutral which means it can be moved freely manually? I remember riding on the Durango and Silverton NGRR and they usually let the steam locomotive ride down hill on neutral to conserve coal and water.
