Phil, you are a magician. The floor looks great. Think this will be your favorite room. I'd even keep it as is, never expanding it. Cozy speaks volumes, and it is still quite spacious. Tackle a new project begging for attention instead. You are a one-man machine, AND you also run a Pub!! I love your positive can-do attitude. The ability to keep truckin' puts you far ahead of everyone, because youu always do some task, no matter how small it seems to you. You always accomplish a ton. "Rich or poor, one still can only do one shovel at a time." You continually keep on...So proud of you for speaking up, too, when you needed help...Your chateau friends love you, and you all have different skills that make the group stronger. I love your videos, Phil. You have such a gift of keeping everything real and your drone shots give the best views to us, far away, imagining how the overall really appears. Your summer season is going to be splendid. Are you considering a surprise sale/bidding on a single piece of furniture that you want to sell, from your huge collection, when you hold your chateau events? Start with less valuable items, eventually eliminating surplus pieces, without having to haul items to consignment shop. Each event would have a surprise item to bid on. With live music, and even an outside movie-showing on some nights to save money-output yet keep or increase income to you. Just thoughts. I would come in a heartbeat, with friends. And with the variation in program, plus sales, you augment the types of clientele. People will come in droves. And future artists, garden help and future helpers will appear, only too eager, to help with future plans...I do hope Lightning is feeling better, and that you are finding more strength for a wonderful spring and summer. Linseed oil can spontaneously combust. Don't store in the house. Even the rags. I learned the hard way! Looking good!

Yikes..I did not know that, I use it in my paints…I have linseed oil in the shop…

@@sparrowkay in the can it's fine. The danger is when you have a rag that's balled up. Just lay the rag out flat on a non combustible surface to dry. The same thing with rags loaded with turpentine soaked ones, and don't place them near each other while drying. It's the fumes that are combustible like gasoline.

I love your solution for the floor. Don’t people realize that you can only stay in floors so many times and then the wood gets very thin. Your solution helps to nourish the wood, keeps it from getting to dry. Keep up all the good work! BTW, the church is lovely!

I was told by a carpenter, to use natural linseed oil not boiled linseed oil when refurbishing wood work. Your floor looks great so far, I feel for you Phil, having to do it all by hand.

Phil - Loving the floor it will look amazing. Many years ago (over 50) my Dad took a week a week to hand sand a room for parquet - Yes by Hand!! It would probably take half a day to do now by machine. Looking at it now - tears are in my eyes as he passed in January just gone and the Alzheimer's took him earlier. Thanks for showing this it looks amazing now and will be totally brilliant when it is completed. :)

I had a floor like this, same floor oil prep. I use to buff in with an old floor polisher with lambs wool heads . I love the smell. Could freshen the floor up with a squirt of oil and the floor polisher or a cotton mop soaked in oil.🥰🐨

I think you are going about that room the right way. After all, this is your home, not a museum and you need to be comfortable in your own home. I think the floor is looking great and 2 or 3 coats on it will pull the room together. It will be a useable room and you can move on to another room. I love that you framed and hung the photos of before you owning it. The history is very important. The church is stunning. No matter your religion or no religion, everyone can appreciate the architecture of historical buildings. The history in this building. So beautiful.

The church was amazing. Sad to hear it's not being used anymore. It seems to be well cared for. I like the floor, even if on inspection it shows some wear and tear. That is to be expected and just will give it some authenticity.

The floor looks good Phil, save your knee caps by kneeling on an old cusion/pillow or even knee pads as in a few years you will be glad you did. the inside of the church is amazing! Wow! For those who might wonder on the statue of the nun with the cross in her hands - it's St-Theresa of Lisieux, a Carmelite nun who never left her convent but who did "little deeds" and "little services" to those around her and who wrote encouraging letters to missionaries around the world. There are many statues in that church who, I am sure, are just as fascinating. Great vlog Phil!

The statue in the church is St. Therese of Lisieux. Sean went to her cathedral in Lisieux a few weeks back and showed it on his channel. She is my patron Saint and I hope to come some day and see it all in person. I live in far Northern California. thank you for popping over before opening. 🌻

Looks a lot better. Careful with linseed oil, there will be a point when saturation is at its highest and you will have to go back over with rags to get the excess/bleed off. Also, a mixture with some lanolin is beneficial, where the lanolin acts like a wax/sealant. 60% Lanolin and 40% Linseed oil. This is the same mixture used to recondition old leather books, to replenish oil content in the leather. The lanolin is not a permanent waxy substance, so there is not the issue of buildup over time as there is with bees' wax.

Phil, seeing the inside of the church was such a wonderful thing! oh, if those walls could talk! Also, you're doing the right thing with the floors. My parents had 2 wooden mantels that they removed from an old house. they used the linseed oil to bring back to their beauty and they still look great 50 years later in my brother's home.
