On a hot August night in 2013, the Pony and Elk complex fires were ignited by lightning. The fires consumed 280,000 acres of rangelands and forests in a matter of days, racing from Black's Creek to Featherville, Idaho.
Once the fires were extinguished, the BLM Boise District and Boise National Forest crafted rehabilitation plans and jump-started Mother Nature's recovery with drill-seeding, aerial seeding and hand-planting.
This video shows how the land is recovering from the wildfires, how those seedings are faring, and explores when the public can use the area again for recreation and livestock grazing.
