Nice videos you are producing there and a nice GT you have! That chrome finisher on the bonnet, imho, would suggest that either the car’s original grille was a fishmouth or that the bonnet was replaced by a former owner and came from a fishmouth model (70-72, I believe). Strange too, if it really is aluminium. That wasn’t standard on MGB 4 cylinders standard models, as far as I know. Also, the front bumper overriders were removed in that overhaul process - a look I quite like and am currently modifying on my 71 GT. Looking forward to more videos!

Thank you! I’ve had quite a few queries over that bonnet finisher, not too sure about its history but I like it so think it will remain. As for the over-riders, they will be replaced, I think, when new bumpers arrive. All the best with your project!

Mine had a non overdrive when I got it. First thing I did was to put one in. If I had the choice between a 5 speed and overdrive, I would have the overdrive every time.
@restosaga5 жыл бұрын
I’d love either really. I’m always worries about taking the plunge on a secondhand ‘box and having a load of trouble though...

@@restosaga Make sure that the input shaft doesn't have too much side movement and change the o rings on the overdrive but yes it is a slight gamble but in my opinion it is worth it. It will be same for a 5 speed unless it is new.

Excellent, thanks for the tip!

@@restosaga I can see the attraction of an overdrive but if the car is only used for less than 300 miles per year you could probably live without it and spend the money elsewhere where it's needed.
@restosaga5 жыл бұрын
Fair logic! I rarely do over 2000 miles a year so it’s a legitimate point

G'day from Australia, lovely vid (and a nice GT) from a lovely part of the world re Northern Island (been there twice and loved it). I've had a few MGBs in my time (plus a C and a V8) but still you can't beat the original 1.8 GT in my books. The best I had was in the late 80s in Sydney in the the rare colour of a 67 Sandy Beige GT (GT colour only) with black leather and white piping with a Webasto! Lovely car, miss it terribly. I think you'll find the bonnet on your car has come from a 1971 MGB. In 71 MG dispensed with the traditional chrome grill replacing it with a recessed black 'grill' and finishing the bonnet leading edge and front wings next to the side lights with a chrome strip. The bonnet of your car has come from a 71 example (not correct for your era). One thing your fine GT is missing is a subtle chrome strip finisher between the upper windscreen and quarter windows. A lot of 60s GTs are missing it now after repaint/resto etc. as it was thrown away, but well worth putting back as it really lifts the car I feel. See pic 1966_MGB_GT.jpg Great job you've been doing on a lovely car, all the best.

Hello! Thanks for getting in touch and your comprehensive comment. I did not realise that about my bonnet or the chrome finisher. Will be on the look out for the correct piece! Thanks for sharing

I had a '67. Put a smaller steering wheel on it, and rebuilt the engine with a better cam. Result was better mileage and performance. The smaller wheel made it easier to steer since it didn't fight my knees. Also lost the wire wheels and put in 7 inch wide mags and 60 series tires. Got rid of the front bumper and put on an air dam. Not a family car obviously.

Nice one, sounds like you plenty of work to it. Haha, definitely not a family car!

Hi, nice video, it’s the first time I have one of yours. I think the ride height at the rear is about right, have you checked the measurements? My third ever car was a 69 roadster that I bought in 1972 I enjoyed it very much but I was only 18 and couldn’t afford to spend on it for upkeep so had to let it go after about three years but I’ve had two GTs since then too. Anyway keep up the good work.

Thank you and thanks for watching! Will have to check the measurements to make sure the ride height is right. Maybe the tyres are too low-profile?
