The truth is that most Nigerians wants this, it's the political ruling class that are gaining from the immense corruption going on that are against regional government. We need to push for this idea to become reality because it will solve most of the current problems Nigeria is facing. Thank you sir for coming up with this.

No more oil money! You are absolutely right. The 36 states bureaucracy can no longer work! Sir, you desire a national award. It's time for us to go to work and stop being lazy! Nigeria has relied on oil and gas for over 60 years. We can fend for ourselves: agriculture and agro processing minerals, manufacturing, and SMEs. Kenya has no oil and gas over the years and they have more productive economy than Nigeria.

Regionalism is a good idea but there are some problems in his proposal. The states and local government councils can remain within the various Regions. Let the Regions control its resources and the regions build its roads, airports, seaports, schools, hospitals, tourism, economy, electricity and so on. Nigeria will be a great country in just five years.

You obviously didn't understand how regionalization works. The current system from the local government, state and all the way to the federal level are too centralized and expensive to run. Everything needs to be decentralized and frees up the resources for each region and subregion to develops itself. The new system puts the power in the people's hands not in the hands of the prodigal sons and daughters you call politicians across Nigeria syphoning our resources. The people need to be reeducated and trained in order to free their brain from the corruptions the current system has stuffed in their head. You get it now?

@@Samuel-lk2ty Time to "restructure" Nigeria into four sections like it was in the past.. this would bring peace since Nigerians cant seem to get away from this TRIBALISM mindset.... EastRegion, WestRegion, MiddleBelt and NorthernRegion.. Abuja will still be the capital of Nigeria (similar to DC in the US). Each region will have a PM/President and each state will still have a governor, all revenue will be allocated to each region EQUALLY.. and each state within thier respective region will be responsible of investing and building/improving their own infrastructure..etc.. this is the best solution to alleviate this ongoing non-sense...

This is a typical way to subjugate and marginalize minorities in Nigeria. Nigerian leaders should be thinking of making life livable for the common people of Nigeria instead of delving into areas the president hasn’t been mandated by electing him into office as president. What is needed in Nigeria today is to eradicate corruption and nepotism to solve Nigeria’s problems. Do away with corrupt people in the system and make life tolerable to the common man.

Nigerian never stopped to amaze me. Today all most every tribe has it’s own state and yet they have not seen progress in their livelihood and you people are advocating for regional governments to bring progress? Who stopped the states from generating their revenue now that you are thinking they will do under regional governments? These nomenclature’s doesn’t matter at all as long as you have not provided a level playing field for every Nigerian to explore their potentials based on equality as citizens of Nigeria. The clogging factor fueling of all the problems in Nigeria today first is the uncontrollable corruption in all the sectors of governance in the country and unashamed nepotism cutting across all the ethnic groups. Our education has done very little if it has done anything to assist our leaders in understanding what entails leadership and patriotism without putting emphasis on tribe, religion and where someone comes from as long as he delivers a good result. Unless we learn not to be influenced by tribe, religion and region in our decision making to better this country, no amount of regions you created will solve these problems. Don’t forget with the regions you are planning to create will still have the same Nigerian problems that force you to create the regions will be staring at you again. Do you create another region from the regions you created? Let us not deceive ourselves but address the real problems facing Nigeria.

He is minimizing the lack of develope of the east over these 40 years not even past 20 years. Look at all the developments in Lagos Abuja. This would not change anything. Each state is givin a budget would is the difference. This just gives less more power to a few.

The United State has 50 states that are working independently fine. What Nigeria needs is to amend the constitution to allows each state to be autonomous. If the region was so good and working as expected why was the coup that changed the situation to where the country is today. If there country decides to regionalism how do you determine which state belong to which region? Will this be based on ethnicity which will bring more problem to the country than it is now and how do you decide which city should be the seat of the government? Already individuals in Lagos state are already saying they can never be part of the Western region. There are many states across the country that would take similar position. All the states have been striving to compete with each other in terms of development and some states have done much better than the others and will resist giving up what they have acquired. Giving the states autonomy through constitutional amendment is the best approach to avoid chaos.

The truth of the matter is that, if this change is not done as soon as possible, the country will end up in such chaos that will never have solutions. Those rogues in Abuja and state and local government offices have seen this coming long time ago, that's why they have been borrowing and looting. They also knew quite well that they will never be able to manage the growing number of the unemployed youth that are getting restless by the day. Their only hope to remain one country is do what the people want, or the country will break and everyone will go their separate ways and we may never remain friends afterwards. The recent Lekki Toll Gate incident, Yoruba Nation, and Biafra movements shook them to the core so they know the people are fed up with them. They should be grateful to Dr Fapounda and like minded people tendering the template for the solution they need to save them of what the youth will to them soomer or later. Thank you Dr Fapounda,

Poundedyamciously, before this can be done correctly, Nigeria needs to get the fundamentals right first. Most importantly, "Nigerians truly feel that they are one with one nation". This is the key! And until that is solved, anything else will always have a negative effect as has been experienced by Nigerians for 63 years. Also, the guest said we should not use words carelessly but he said "now the current president is on the throne" - the presidency is not a throne, it is an office of responsibility to Nigerians.

The irony of this proposal was the same suggestion Odimegwu Ojukwu proposed to Nigeria for discussion in Aburi Accord which Nigeria under Gowon Military junta dismissed. Later on, break the regions and consequently went to Civil war. How did Nigeria survive before the oil. The big elephant in the room is the national resources. America solve this problem by giving the citizens right to own thier land and the natural resources that comes with it. Every land owner or region should Pay the Federal government taxes on the resources from individuals' locality and states. America never have problems with sharing resources. The current arrangement in Nigeria sharing of resources is a crime and inefficient. Nigeria do not have to break up , but could come together as equals to build a better and a stronger union for its people.

You are the biggest liar here. Ojukwu never proposed such bill. infact, Nnamdi Azikwe mobilized igbo to destroy everything and anything like this before our independence of 1960. Aguiyi Ironsi scrapped all the regions and brought all the regional architecture into the centre. He boldly wrote it in our constitution since then that there is no free discussion on this, and that we have no right to ever negotiate our association together. IF THERE IS ANY TRIBE WHICH DESTROYED THE REGION, IT WAS IGBO. Gowon also wanted to put article 8 of then into our constitution after the civil war-- this was another regional autonomy which aguiyi Ironsi destroyed, but this was also fought against by your people until it was dropped. STOP THE LIE

Why was this not carried out for the longest time, the country was amalgamated and even before that every region was surviving effectively and efficiently as well. It is due to ignorance and low level of educational system that has made a lot of states not see what blessings are underneath them and it’s a problem. A serious one for that matter

I literally was just having a discussion about regional government or state autonomy. On the surface, it sounds like marginalization, however, the advantages of regionalization or state autonomy will lead to a massive growth. Think about the drop in the cost of governance if politicians are compensated based on the IGR of thier Sate. The states that will not want this are the one that benefits from the current system the most. Product nothing, contribute nothing to GDP, but still gets same allocation and scompesations as the governors that do the most.

On the alternative, I think 36states are closer to the people than regional system, we will now have to wait for Anambra before things are done Asaba or waiting for Kaduna for actions to be taking in Sokoto or Katsina, or waiting for Ibadan before Ondo can do anything. What we need in my humble opinion is more power to the people to hold their Governor responsible.
