Check the MAP sensors work by applying vacuum to pipe, monitor output and also diagnostic tool to see if readings are sensible. If not done already, check connections to ECU.

It's the sensors. Mine did exactly same when i swapped out a charging lead on the battery. From what i could find out, it's a common thing that they can fail when the battery is disconnected

I've been using those California Cycle Works timing belts for years and years. Good stuff. All the old belts coming off my ST4 look like they could run another 10k miles easily. The poorly made OEM French temperature sensors were a temporary problem on mine, but new Bosch replacements did the job, no more hesitating throttle response.

There is a precision error with digital measuring tools that not many think of. Besides the accuracy of the tool according to the manufacturer we also have to add the smallest value the tool can show us to that error! The reason for this is that we can't know if the last digit is about to change upwards or down. As an example the 4.9 vs 5.0 in this video might be a real difference of 4.94 vs 4.95 as a smallest difference based on only this additional error but it could also be as large as 4.85 vs 5.04. (Yes, as a precision machinist I'm a geek for any measuring related thing, this I was taught by Mitutoyo. Don't ask me why they don't include this error in their specifications...)

One of these broke my heart for about 3 days. It had extensive "trouble shooting" at a ducati main dealer. Hadn't run right for years, to the point where it had cracked the front header. Some idiot at some point had connected the injector leads in the wrong injectors. Vertical in the horizontal. Wasn't throwing any codes...nothing.

I did a bike that had stood for more than 10 years and the anti freeze had eaten well into the heads and gaskets dissolved things away, after all the work was done it blew the gaskets after a 150 miles, the heads and crankcases were also toasted, big let down, a word of advice for anyone buying an old bike with no history, be prepared for a HUGE bill, can be more than the bike is worth, if you are going to store any water cooled bike drain the coolant first.

In the event of a fault of absolute pressure sensor 2, the engine control unit uses the information from absolute pressure sensor 1 instead. In the event of a fault of both absolute pressure sensor 1 and absolute pressure sensor 2: - The engine control unit implements an atmospheric pressure value of 1.013 bar.

I've had these MAP sensor codes on a few ducs before, in many cases the fix is to run a bodge wire from the 5V supply and output and it fixes the problem. Tight wiring causes breaks. Wish I had a thermal camera for finding them.

It quite possibly with the codes coming up that's the reason the first owers hadn't run if for 10 years and just decided to punt it on.

Years ago I stuffed up a MAP sensor once cleaning it, delicate little things. I was able to determine the sensor had failed measuring the voltage and gently applying pressure or vacuum. I'm no expert and not sure how things work on that bike, but if 5V in and 5V out is triggering the error then how can that mean the sensor is good?

There seems to me a theme through many of these bikes that you would hardly class as old… Parts no longer available, often carb rubbers. If you can’t get the parts after only a few years what are you supposed to do if you want to keep an older bike going? I see it with OEM accessories too but I guess that’s less of an issue. This Ducati isn’t what I’d class as old!

CA Cycle Works IIRC they developed an alternative to insanely expensive OEM Ducati .. which were half the cost of OEM .. we used them extensively.. always use new belt tensioner lock nuts when changing, adjusting belts...very very kind of you to offer those lockouts for postage .. they look superb and thats all you need for belt service.. BEFORE you buy OEM O rings , fuel pump O rings look to the aftermarket. I had paid $28 per feul pump O ring thru Ducati. Then I found that McMaster Carr in the USA sold same at a 1/3 cost IIRC 6 for $15 bucks...Surely same like kind quality Viton O rings can be had much cheaper than OEM in UK. In fact how I came upon McMaster Carr in US was at Fast by Ferracci .. he bought them in bulk cheaper than from Ducati OEM. .. I saw them one day sitting on the parts counter, open shipping box.. I thought.... hmmm.. same same like kind and quality I was told on the QT but 1/3 the cost. So between CACycleworks Belts, aftermarket supplied O rings you can service your Testastretta, Testastretta EVO at far far less cost...

I don't think that MAP output is correct. If the ECU is providing a ground, the 5V reference on the output wire should be zero, because it's being pulled to ground.

Sorry but no. You would not expect the sensor to read 5V at atmosphere. The sensor should pull the voltage DOWN even a bit. So that when it faults or it's unplugged, the ECU sees 5V. Why do you think it's complaining about it being O/C??? Not a good video.
@SuperbikeSurgeryTV
@SuperbikeSurgeryTV Ай бұрын
You are 100% Correct 👍 I'm surprised no one else picked me up on it! In my defence it was late and I was feeling pretty shite! In my brain I was thinking about a digital MAP with a 5v square wave output 😞 I do correct myself in part 2, though. Thanks for keeping me honest 🙏
