Greetings from South Western Ukraine. We are just starting to get jalapenos and Scotch Bonnets to start turning Red. Our Carolina Reapers have been ripening up for a few weeks. But we are racing against time as the sun will go behind the clouds in early September and won't return until April. Peace to you.

Have you tried adjusting the vent openers? Those that you labeled better quality seem to be similar to those that i've used, you loosen the nut at the swivel end of the rod to make the vent open more.

Onion "necks" will break and fall over. At that point, you just wait for most of the leaves to turn brown. Then pull them, leaving them completely intact (roots and leaves) and lay them out in a dry warm place to cure for a few weeks and they should store fine for months.
@q-mh1cj5 ай бұрын
Pick the onions whenever you want to use them. Flavor doesn’t change, just the amount of onion you have to use.

Hello ChilliChump, I don't miss any of your videos. My tip: Maybe you should paint your plant containers white, black pots absorb a lot of heat! That worked for me. Simple wall paint is enough and is the cheapest... Greetings from Munich.

onions like garlic are ready to pick when they lay down, however you can harvest a onion at any stage of growth. also the leaves make great green onions
@RyanBendel5 ай бұрын
For onions, when the necks start to bend and the leaves start to yellow, they're about ready. You can bend the neck over yourself as well (allegedly helps them store for longer). Yours are a good size so good to go whenever you want! Drying time is normally about 2 weeks on a rack, that stage is crucial for storing (no green left and papery skins)

You have yourself one very fine and happy little companion there with Barney on yard patrol Shaun! Good to hear that you and Caroline had an enjoyable road trip as such. Interesting how your different sets of auto vent openers are working. Is there an alarm set to be sent to you when there is a malfunction on opening at set temperatures? Progress is slow here as would be anticipated under these circumstances. However, small plants do appear vibrant. Temperatures have been running in the upper 30s for most of the last 3 weeks, with little to no rain. Looking forward to next Sunday's Live while Staying Spicy! -Bob...

A tip I have recently seen on cooking onions is not to slice or chop them but to great them before cooking. All the acidity is in the water which is released much quicker when you grate them which results in a sweeter/better flavour.

Barney steals the show again 🥰 love it! My plants here in southern MI are loaded up and getting big, most a foot or two tall, with some getting close to 3. Some of the earlier pods are starting to ripen, but not as exciting as the masses of green pods elsewhere. Going to be a multicoloured jungle here soon 🌶️ love these update videos, always nice to see the shapes, speed and patterns of growth month to month 👍🏻

My chocolate bhutlah and peach ghost plants have a lot of unripe fruit that just set on in the last week. All four plants are doing fantastic, and I've been feeding them Tiger Bloom every other day pretty much for the last couple weeks. Also have a Fresno plant for my wife, we had four of those last year and we had way more Fresno chilies than I wanted or needed. It has about 10 ripe pods on it currently, and about a zillion green ones. I'm saving some seeds from both of the super hot varieties and kind of hoping they cross pollinate some, although they are about 10 feet apart from one another. I think a cross between chocolate bhutlah and peach ghost would be interesting.

This year has been in oven here in Reno Nevada. I look at yours and think, maybe I’m lucky right now. Mine are 3’ plants but only one of eight has lots of peppers. Lots of flowers on many and some peppers on each. They drink over 1.5 gal a day to keep healthy. I’m going to overwinter them to see if better success next year with more tolerable temps hopefully. Also, I’m thinking that the higher the scoville the more temperamental the plant. Watching you over the years I see a successful and committed grower. Using science and documenting the year makes huge difference to growing successfully. Sorry for long post. I have ask you, if I give liquid nutrients every 4 days of 20oz ppm 500-600’s and slow release every 4-6 weeks is right path? I am one of few doing good with plants and heat, just want more peppers. High 90’s for many days, even shaded does have an impact. Thank you
@ChilliChump4 ай бұрын
If what you are doing is producing good results, then keep doing it! Your feeding amounts seem quite high...however with the amount you water, it actually isn't that bad. I would keep an eye on the feeding though. Overfeeding can produce smaller and fewer pods.

I think I saw a video with Mrs Chillichump in the background cleaning the pots, but I forget which video that was. Also, some people say to soak for 30min, if you do that, how does one do it with large pots, like 40cm+? Cheers.

Hi Shaun, you're making a great comeback this season. I've watched a few of your fermentation videos and I've noticed there are two different types of airlocks you use, one that comes apart to pieces and the other S-shaped that is single piece. You seem to be using more of the single piece airlock, can you explain why you prefer that, I want to order one or the other online but I don't know which one is better for beginners? Thanks in advance!
