Preparation, preparation, preparation, 80% of a decent finish is in the preparation, it’s the same when decorating at home etc. You certainly give everything a good try Mark. Total respect to you!

Oh,dear. Why don't you get Grant out. He can paint them in your workshop. Possibly blend in the passenger door. It's a real pain to take the panels to the body shop. Need the car to be there. Have a beer or two. Have a relaxing weekend with the family Mark. Great job 👍

Hi Mark, good on you for having a go, the imperfections in the bonnet could be sorted with stopper filler.

Hi Mark, it may help if you hang the panels vertical when painting them instead of lay flat, you will get less dust landing in them that way and as others have said, wet your floor. Good first effort though 👍
@doctorbones.302 жыл бұрын
Wet the floor down before laying any sort of paint, especially in a garage with a rough concrete floor, because as you move about your kicking up the dust & crap from the floor, also use filler to fill in any pinholes.

That primer is filler primer, it allows you to "fill" them small imperfections. No need to sand down and reshoot just continue on and sand the filler primer down. After sanding if there's still some small pin holes use a putty or glaze. When covering bare metal use etch primer only a light dusing will be good and no need to rub down before you primer. 400, 600, 800 (800 not really needed but you can do it to ensure no sanding marks) your filler primer and shoot base and clear.

Good first attempt spraying the panels with the door open I know you need it for fresh air, but you could end up with dust particles on the fresh paint. Have a good weekend Mark 👍👍

From one painting expert to another, good effort. Definitely worth a try. Will save so much time and money in the long run. I’m going to be experimenting soon with a white bumper from brand new but from rattle cans.

doing ok Mark just take your time and don't get too close with the gun and damp your floor down around the panels so you don't churn dust up off the floor
@stephenshutt94612 жыл бұрын

Nice one Mark, big achievement in what you have done. Looking at what you have achieved I would have put more paint on. I think another brilliant thing is you can see what is not right and you have a plan in place to put it right. I will tell you now, keep doing what you are doing and this will come out really well. There will be 10 times more overspray in the air when you do the clear. I have a floor mounted fan sucking the overspray out. Works when sanding also.

Well done on giving it a go. You should have just whacked another coat on as it's only primer. You should have enough build in the primer to flat it once you've done both coats. As long as the primer is covered and has build you can get rid of most imperfections. But keep going.

You really need some proper tressles for stripping and building bumpers etc. Working on the floor is not ideal.

Hi Mark don't you think you should concentrate on repairs only because painting is such a time consuming job and expensive.

I've been there, done that, or similar. And I also found it's very time consuming. I feel I've got to ask ..in your work, could that time be better used, towards making money? Shane. (Aka Ian G.) 🙂
