Petroleum grease will destroy the seals, you needed to use plumbers grease as its silicon based, petroleum grease will degrade the seals and make the seals swell and fail over a short period.

I think you've let the reputation of the Puretech, cast a shadow over all rational attempts at diagnosis. It is spinning over, but not at a speed suggestive of compression loss. They are known for burning oil, oil starvation and wetbelt issues, none of which you've seen evidence of yet. Oil starvation causes seizure, yet that clearly turns over nicely. Buy a used Puretech to go in, not worth the hassle, with problems that may bring. Suggest you break it, or try and fix that engine along with a new timing belt kit and oil pickup clean. My bet is a high pressure fuel pump.

You can check the valves with a endoscopy it's to expensive to strip the head if it's not needed I reckon that timing is fine.
@Speedfreak999694 сағат бұрын
Why on earth would you strip it before doing basic checks you will cause yourself big problems thinking this way if the engine was tossed it wouldn't really turn over like that I would have put a scan tool on it charged the battery fully checked it ain't got diesel in it then gone from there. Checking the oil pick up is wise if its got the wet belt but only after getting it running.

Hi there, as a mechanic of over forty years and old school, i would, first: Check oil, check air cleaner, and if it has a scanner port then scan for fault codes, then up on ramp, check, oil filter if date has been written on it, drain oil see if they are any objects in or water, then do compression check, spark check and check fuel. iI like your video but not being rude but maybe less explaing and get straight to the job.

Belt needed replacing and gauze blocked. Probably that big piece in the sump fell off the gauze which was causing near total blockage? Seen this a few times on these engines. Dead... then a belt and pick up cleaned and back to life!
@peteredwards914713 сағат бұрын
I believe the original fault was fuel related, when you stripped it down and disconnect the fuel rail. This could have reset itself when reconnected. Thats why it started when it did for you, but it did take a few chanks to get it started.

That oil needs to be thoroughly flushed to get out all of the remnants of the cambelt and the oil pump wetbelt then the sump dropped again. I reckon the engine fault was oil starvation.

Low oil pressure will cause all sorts of issues including Piston rings nipping up, timing solenoid faults,hydraulic cam followers not allowing valves to open properly and just by clearing out the oil pick up you’ve given it a chance It will need a new belt correct oil as it’s in a bad way Lucky though as could of ended up with a engine replacement if left any longer

I reckon that oil pick was blocked. That clump of belt fiber in the sump 16:00 fell off the pick up when you pulled the sump, it's the same size and shape as the 'clear' part of the pickup 16:18 . Rather than the pickup being partial clear it was blocked and there's likely been some oil starvation to the bores, hence the low compression.
