Same! I never or rarely find good stuff lol. These stores are great! I’m in a low income area and think no one in my area has anything really good to donate. I live adjacent to rich areas but i guess they probably donate their stuff somewhere else or the help takes it. I never really see anything name brand, in good condition, or new. Clothes at the thrift stores here always have stains and holes and the VHS tapes are always the same tired Disney ones. Don’t really see records, video games are only Wii crap that i already have, or old nes Mario stuff that’s super overpriced.

Dang, there always seems to be so much great stuff at the Goodwill locations near you! The ones near me are 75% clothing, 20% porcelain decorative crap, and only 5% electronics / digital media / books.

They definitely seem to be regional. My friend goes to the Goodwill out near the retirement areas because she collects leaded glass. It was popular with all the people cleaning out their houses in that area.

When you said "Alpha Smart" at 11:35, I will not lie you unlocked a deep memory from within me. When I was in middle school, I actually used to use those! It was mostly used for writing assignments and I would save them under a specifically named folder and then plug it into a computer to later print out the writing essay. The Alpha Smart also had it's own cart where the students would plug in their Alpha Smarts after using them to charge. I don't believe it ever caught on despite my teachers pushing for it but it was honestly pretty neat and I never thought I'd hear the name "Alpha Smart" again heh

Woh I need to correct you on Operation Flashpoint that game wasn't cheesy at all. For it's time (like 2001-2003ish) it was one of the most realistic cold war military sims out there. You can play as a solider, or ground vehicle or aircraft etc. And it had a massive modding community. It's the grandaddy of the ARMA game series.

Oooh, I have 2 Alphasmart Neo 2's. With modern markup tools like markdown, they're actually a super awesome tool for writers. No distractions like mail or twitter, and boots instantly unlike a laptop. How they transfer text is pretty neat, too, as it's universally future-proof. You plug it in and it acts like a standard USB keyboard, but there's an export button that will directly type out your active file to any focused text input field. It's unforgivably minimalist, and gives a writer no excuse to not write.

The sims vacation! Such a good one. I got the sims 1 for my Mac at my local goodwill also. Haven’t been in a brick and mortar store since before the pandemic - have just gotten my used games on eBay. Want to go thrifting again now that it’s safe to shop in stores again! I was constantly sick in the fall and winter and knock on wood finally it seems to be safe to go outside again and not everyone everywhere is sick. I’d love to find some more old sims games and expansions. Used to have that queen Amadala cup topper! Had everything of her, was such a huge fan. That sims 3 limited edition caught my eye! I would have checked that out.

Operation Flashpoint is the granddaddy to Arma, Arma 2 and Arma 3, which of course begat Day Z. It's a combat simulator, in that, you are simulating being a soldier vs. the "normal" FPS where you have a health bar and ammo/powerups to pick up.

When it comes to PC shovelware, which is common at thrift stores, would you start collecting discs from eGames? eGames, formerly RomTech, was very prolific in the late 90s through the late 2000s, with their shovelware compilations showing up at places like Walmart and elsewhere. I remember buying my first ever eGames disc from a small town drug store in 2001, a big box copy of "Blast Thru", a rather decent breakout clone. Most of their compilations featured clones of more well known arcade games, made by indie developers, and some of these clones are actually rather good. They even had really odd-ball games like "Shoot the Roach". eGames is long gone, but they had a big presence in software racks and perhaps their history should be explored more.

When I was a kid in highschool, being the nerdy kid I got to do the jobs the IT guy didn't want to do. And we had a cart of those alphasmarts. I used to take them to an English, history, or speech class that was writing a paper. The cart had a regular laptop that had a IR you could send you text to word or straight up print it to the HP laserjet on the cart. Teachers like them because it just a word processor you can't be dinking around on the internet with them. Lol blast from my past.

I finally had time to watch the entirety of this new episode of Thifting Time & I'm impressed both by what you found & bought Eric. I'm glad you're able to go to all of these thrift stores & find all these cool items from the past since it really does feel like opening up a time capsule for some items (like that cool SkateorDie themed shelf) or discovering new things I didn't know existed (like that motion controlled console from 2004). If I wasn't so busy all the time I'd love to be able to visit a thrift store on my own & see what I can find. Especially since the last time I shopped in one was years ago.

Operation Flashpoint was the predecessor to Arma 1, 2, and 3. As some may be aware, Arma 2 and 3 were the base games that people built battle royale mods for, which eventually led to games which copied the format, like PlayerUnknown's : Battlegrounds and Fortnite.

Working at an office, I can confirm that organizer is still useful. In a big office they use the landline to contact between floors, and all client contact goes through the phones in each cubicle. When you are a low level intern like me, you need all the desk space you can get from the nightstand they put you on, and that landline takes up a ton of space.
@gordontaylor2815
@gordontaylor2815 Жыл бұрын
I think the organizer is still made because "legacy" landline telephones would still be around in business settings, especially larger ones. (Even if people generally don't use the landlines much these days, it would be too much expense and hassle to remove pre-existing phone systems, so the landlines are allowed to stay as long as the system is still working...)
