Love all the videos on this channel. A teacher from NE India having taught for 25 years but still have the opportunity to improve with the ideas and experience shared by teachers from the global community.

how do you create a positive relationship between these two groups? I'm worried about teasing if you're in the 're-teach' group.

That's a great question and one we asked as well. From speaking with the students and staff, we learned that the kids don't feel stigmatized because the program is so ingrained. It's simply part of the way the school works. Almost every student is in re-teach at some point, so they see it as a normal part of their experience, not a judgement. In fact, many students mentioned that they really like re-teach because they get a little more time to learn things that are challenging for them.

I do it by creating a learning atmosphere that is safe in that students all are ok with making mistakes, being retaught, challenged, and learn to ask and receive help willingly. Every student must understand and believe that we all learn at different paces and in the end we will all get across the "finish line" if we embrace this approach. I support this type of learning community in grades 1-2 by beginning the process of educating all those who interact with my students including families on growth mindset and patient supported learning. We do school wide activity periods where we do multi-age It takes time to build this type of learning environment and ideally all adults (not just teachers, but support staff and parents) are on board with a growth mindset and this supportive, patient way of teaching and learning.

Formative assessments drive content for small groups and provide opportunities for reteaching and enrichment. This model produces rapid results in secondary settings as well. @drkendrastrange

How did the 5th grade teachers all get on board with the idea? What happens if everyone doesn't agree?

It seems like this would be most effective if the whole team is on board, but maybe there are parts you could use just within your classroom regardless?
