What is the percentage of retinol in the Naturium products? The 2.5% is for the complex, but what about for the retinol alone?

Susan, I am confused here a little bit. 🤔 You said beginners should avoid other actives (Aha, Bha i.e. exfoliants) when starting with retinoids. But you mentioned we need exfoliation to get rid of flakiness caused by retinoids. So if I start retinol 2 times a week. Can I still use exfoliants on any other day? Also, once I build up my tolerance, Should I use exfoliants before or after applying retinol or not on the same day?

There really should be a "general retinoid scale" that all brands must place their retinol products on. It's so frustrating to have to navigate between brands. I started with Ordinary low percentage retinol, and then was given an Olay retinol to trial and Olay just flat out refuses to explain how strong (or weak) the retinol in their product is. How am I meant to "build up" my use and find my brand if brands will not put their product strength on one, clear scale?

I used tretinoin for 13 years and then I got the best advice ever which was to rotate your vitamin A active after each bottle you finish to get the best benefits so your results don't flatline. I alternate my Vitamin A with zo skin health radical night repair, wrinkle+texture repair, curology, Differin and then a generic prescription tretinoin, usually when I'm mixing it with hydroquinone. After each bottle I finish I rotate to a different one and it's been amazing. The 2 zo skin health products I mentioned above are INTENSEEEEEE. Actually they act stronger than any prescription I've used before which is kind of crazy and the results they produce are crazy. Highly recommend, not cheap though!

What strength tretinoin do you use? I've been using 0.05 for about a year and I have like 8 tubes of the 0.1 percent. I'm scared to use the 0.1 because I don't want to peel again. Do you think I should move up in strength? I do want maximum results!

Do you use it all over your face?? I'm 20 and I have acne My dermatologist wrote me a tretinoin and said that I should use it only on the spot of the pimple (which is on my cheeks) However, I hear people saying that retinol helps with everything (wrinkles, dark spots,..) so I wanted to try it around my mouth because I have strong laugh lines and darkness around my mouth I used it there once and my skin FREAKED OUT like after 2-3 hours it looked very very red and didn't look normal so I washed it off Next day all the area around my mouth was brown like it was burnt I was very scared so I didn't do it again haha After 2-3 weeks my skin has gotten better like now around my mouth is some kind of normal again (finally) That's why I wanted to know is it safe to use around the mouth? Because I hear people saying that it helps but for me it didn't Btw I'm still using it on my cheeks and nothing bad happened And my tretinoin isn't a cream like the lady shows in tge video, it's a liquid Did you have a similar experience or do you even use it around your mouth?

It honestly took me about 3 or 4 years to get used to tretinoin. The flaking and redness were HARD to deal with - I could spend ages trying to get the flakes off, go into a work meeting and after an hour, my whole face looked as if it was about to fall off - MORTIFYING - but I managed it and am reaping the rewards! Never think it’ll be great at first. I think Susan never sticks with it long enough which I understand because she’s in front of a camera regularly but you have to be mentally prepared to stick with it. Microfibre cloths are great to gently buff off the flakes.

I have been using Differin for years. It was a huge game changer for me. I was skeptical to try it as I have done Rx Benzyoyl peroxide, tretinoin, salicylic acid and they destroyed my skin. The dryness, the flaking, and redness. I had to stop. Differin is very gentle on the skin. I had no side-effects when starting it. No skin purging. It does say that full results will be seen in about 3-4 months of use but you can start to see results in as little as 4 weeks. This was very true for me and my skin. I still have some acne that I deal with and it is probably hormonal as it is around the chin and upper lip areas that I get it either 2 weeks before my cycle or a week after my cycle. Differin will also help with fine lines and wrinkles too.

@shanerobinson4892
@shanerobinson4892 3 жыл бұрын
@@usamakhan3553 Yes, I do take breaks when using hydroquinone 4%. My dermatologist only writes me 2-3 prescriptions per year. I have Melasma but it's greatly improved over the years. I've used hydroquinone 3 different ways over the past few years. I use it all over 2x a week for an even complexion, I use it as spot treatment if I had dark marks from acne , and I've used it as an under eye cream to get rid of dark circles. When using it as a spot treatment to fade acne marks, I dip a q-tip in the hydroquinone 4% and dot it on the marks. I don't rub it in, I just leave it as a dot. I would do this for a few days in a row until the scar looks faded. I saw results in days using this method. When the marks start to lighten, I then use a potent Vitamin C serum or a cream/serum with lactic Acid all over the face to exfoliate the skin. If you want to use the Vitamin C and hydroquinone together, apply the vitamin C all over first and then spot treat with the hydroquinone. When using it as under eye cream to lighten dark circles, I mix a small pea sized amount of hydroquinone 4% with a pea size amount of an eye cream, and pat it under the eyes. I know there are alot of people who are afraid to use hydroquinone or against it's use, but I've never had a problem with it. It is the only ingredient that I've ever used that's effective and quick. When I'm not using hydroquinone, I use Retin-A (prescription), mandelic acid, alpha arbutin or kojic acid. Remember to use sunscreen. I can't stress that fact enough.

Hi Susan, thanks for your video. It’s informative! I’m in my 40’s and I struggle with acne. My skin is oily and bumpy. I’m not sure how I alternate retinol 1% in squalane with salicylic acid and glycolic acid. At the moment, I use salicylic and glycolic 1-2/week. Thanks in advance. 😊

I am so curious because I have been using retinol for the last one-two years and I have never experienced any side effects. Everything I put on my skin could be quite a lot for almost everyone - vit. C 30%, niacinamide, retinol, exfoliation, arbutine, all of these and nothing. I guess I have 0 sensitivity and I am lucky with this but I still see amazing results

@@Dap740 I should agree as all clinical trials include vit.c 15%. However, taking into consideration the oxidation of ascorbic acid, sometimes more is better, so it comes to formulation

Thanks. Would love a second video showing how to layer and incorporate in skincare routine. I'm currently using one of the online providers (Dear Brightly) and have a tretinoin based solution with HA. Haven't had issues with purge but still want to use other actives in the fight against hyperpigmentation. I practice alternating night uses, using in the morning/separately, etc. but would like more detail like what you were getting to at the 14 minute mark.

Susan, of the different versions of retinol mentioned and different products, which would be recommended for someone who happens to be menopausal (I mention because of hormonal changes, but can't take hormone replacement for medical reasons), has very large pores around the nose/cheeks and chin, has some post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, has only an occasional pimple here and there, but is a freaking oil slick all day long? I always hear recommendations to use retinol for acne/acne prone skin, but I never hear what is recommended for a person who doesn't have acne but is constantly oily? I'm at my wits end with all the oil. I cleanse, treat and protect but nothing helps with the oil. I would love to hear your recommendations. I do use niacinamide daily (initially The Ordinary and currently Naturium) and it doesn't help.

Like what type to use for what occasion.. Example you mentioned on a video you just use moisturizer before your make up but would be the the texture.. Not just by skin type.. Hope this makes sense. 1st time actually writing a comment.. Lol

If I'm starting, which of all the Naturium line should I start with? I'm 30 and, have normal to dry sensitive not congested skin. I'm more interested in the anti-aging benefits, fine lines, and wrinkles. Also, is the Naturium retinol cream comparable to the one of SKIN ALLIES you use?

you do not need both. it's repetitive and would be more likely to cause irritation than increase effectiveness. you can always get a higher percentage in tretinoin though as long as your skin has adjusted to the 0.04 and you've been using it for a while!

11:20 OH MY GOODNESS!!! thank you for talking about this!!! i thought I was the only one going crazy when everyone was so gung ho about tretinoin. i didn't know the process was called "retinization" but ugh I frustrated because I feel like the numbers I hear are 4 weeks or 6 weeks and I don't think that's true, unless I am wrong about how to use it. hopefully if it does work than the payoff will be worth it but rn super frustrated about this!!
