I completely relate to what Mitch and J described in this interview. Moving next month to Ajijic, I'm busy downsizing (selling everything that doesn't fit into four suitcases) and getting elder parent and other family members adjusted to the idea of my moving. I've found a very affordable, beautifully furnished place to rent with a huge terrace (view to die for), and will be living the life I've been imagining for so many years. I plan to take a vacation to La Paz next winter & hope to attend one of Brighton's cocktail events!

Amazing couple with a story that resonates... Seize the DAY!! When they started giving the ages of people in their family and friend circle that had already passed away in their 50's and 60's it really reminded me of my own story of losing my sisters and other family and friends "early" . Today is the best day to get out and do what it is that you really want to do... ENJOY life, and don't spend too much time sweating the small stuff. THANK YOU Brighton... you really do Shine!!

Good morning, Brighton. Thank you for this video and for introducing us to Mitch & J - a lovely and relatable couple. I wish them much happiness and contentment in their retirement 😊 I just returned from 11 days in Yucatan, and miss it terribly. Nevertheless, it makes me more focused on putting a plan in place so I can return. I feel healthier, calmer and more at peace in Mexico. Feel blessed to have Mexican friends who feel like family. ❤ Have a great day!

Brighton, I’m coming to La Paz on Feb. 10 to get my temp. residency card. I’ll stay a month - I want to check out places to live, hospitals, a church home, places to grocery shop, etc. If all goes well, I’ll be there full-time starting June 1. What is the name of the development where this couple rents in El Centenario? It looks like a place I’d like to live. Blanca Corral will be my facilitator.

@@orlymarq6238 We have a caretaker - he's a local painter who lives with his parents just up the street. So he moves in while we aren't here. We pay him about $120 a month to stay here (good for security) and check on things like plumbing, irrigation, etc. I think it's worth it for our situation. We are in an area without a lot of neighbors. If I was living in a small community (gated or not) then I might not have someone on site. But just this week our cistern check valve broken and our cistern was overflowing. Having someone on site would notice that within a day. With no one there, it could flow for months.

ATM machines are a great way for getting pesos from your US bank account. Just decline the exchange rate they offer and it will be your bank who chooses the exchange rate (which is almost always better than what the ATM owner offers. Enjoy CDMX!

Fabulous interview! I especially loved the honesty they spoke of in the area of age. All the family members that passed and didn't have a chance to be retired. They still followed their dream even though they both have older sick family. I hear this all the time...I cant leave because I have an older, sick parent. It might sound cold but staying in the USA is going to kill many, many Americans. If they dont want to come with you then you have got to go, to preserve your own life. Poisonous, tainted food, air, water, hugely stressful life style and horribly high cost of poor medical care IS going to continue to kill thousands a year.
@AlmostRetiredinMexico

Yes - I agree. And their son helps with their parents. Sticking around in the US to care for parents could be a death sentence - your parent could easily outlive you. I say, "bring them to Mexico!"

What options does a person close to poverty have? I can’t afford to live in US and seems Mexico may be out of my reach as well. I’m feeling pretty hopeless. Are there any options?
