Excellent interview and perspectives! I, too, love Brazil and have been in Mexico a lot as well. I've had so many amazing Brazilian friends!!! This interview confirms what I've learned that it's economical in Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, etc. I did notice that Mexico (Puerto Vallarta, etc.) is actually a bit more expensive than other places in Brazil, etc., so given my wife is Brazilian I might go there. One of the best times I had was the time I spent in Salvador, Bahia!!!! Enjoy!!!

I live in Sao Paulo now, but have stayed in Florianopolis and Foz fo Iguacu. I too get about $1400 social security benefits from USA at age 65. I pay my in-laws $100 a month for the small "in-law" apartment for the time being, before my Brazilian spouse to be and I find a larger place maybe in another city. I too get 4 medications that were prescriptions in the USA, but here are not presciptions here in Brazil. At the pharmacy I pay about $10 for each one for the month. I have gone to the local SUS clinic for a bad congestion this year that was diagnosed as walking pneumonia that cleared up after 10 days with about $50 in medications. The clinic visit was free. My boyfriend/spouse to be is my translator as I am having difficulty picking up Brazilian Portuguese. I learned German and lived in Germany in 1977 to 1979, but at my age now learning Portuguese seems difficult. Luckily my partner is almost fluent in English Reply

Enjoy your interviews very much. Allow me to make a suggestion, ask people about how much they pay for income taxes (in Brazil it could be quite high if you stay more than 180 days). Keep up with the interviews, yours are the best!

The Federative Republic of Brazil has 26 states and 1 federal district (Brazilia). Fun fact, Salvador, Bahia is the Brazilian version of Plymouth, MA being that it is the location of the Portuguese Landing in Brazil on April 22nd 1500.

The BR minimum wage in Florianopolis is r$2,000 as it is in a lot of the south, 3 states Crazy but rents in the south are LESS than the north- here r$1000-1500 In the NORTH rents are higher esp in large cities are r$1800-2800 and the minimum wage is r$1200 YES you can live on $500-700 us dollars per month in many places (rent, food, etc) If you own your place, even less MOST MEDS like blood pressure drugs are OTC here. You NEED a prescription for any psychological meds, easy to get from a local DR

14:30 What paperwork do I need to rent an appartment like that?
@Michael747And
@Michael747And Жыл бұрын
Hi Danielle. Michael here from the vídeo. To rent an apartment like mine at that low (local) price, you'd need to have a permanent resident visa that would allow you tô live in Brazil beyond tne six month tourist visa. Go to the website of your nesrest Brazilian Consulate to check If you quality for that. Also, Brazil recently introduced a 2 year digital nomad visa for people who are self-employed. For a shorter stay of six months or less, Airbnb would bê an option, but would bê more expensive than what I pay. Boa sorte.
@Dan1ell

Thanks for your reply Micheal. I'm Surinamese so I can enter Brazil visa-free and stay for 90 days. I've been trying to talk to Brazilian embassy here but they are unresponsive; a phone number that cuts off and no walk-ins allowed. If you can imagine that. But thanks, I'll keep digging!@@Michael747And
