EMD Locomotive were made in Lagrange Illinois, 20 miles from Chicago. Easy access for replacement parts of the F59phi's.

The F59PHIs currently in Capitol Corridor and San Joaquins service are owned by CalTrans (CDTX), not Amtrak. That's why they continue to operate. Also, the Siemens plant is about a half-hour's drive from where I live (I live in North Highlands, while the Siemens plant is in Florin, both of which in Sacramento County).

The trains are a little over 20 years old. They were sold to Metra which is a commuter railroad in Chicago. The trains are being replaced with more efficient locomotives
