A very honest appraisal of life in Thailand by John imo , one of the thing expats have to remember if you in a tourist destination , i.e. Phuket , Pattaya the vast majority of Thai people have moved there to earn money , therefore most relationships are based on money , it's that simple , enjoy your time there but don't be foolish with your money & emotions.

Thai-American here! Please, please, please, learn Thai if you plan to stay in Thailand long-term!! You will get a better experience and a whole new world will open up to you when you can communicate with the locals. Fluency will get you loads and loads of Thai women! Remember, there are more women than there are men in Thailand. It's reported the ratio is 4 to 1, women to men. For every 4 women there is only one man. Thai women are open to dating foreign men but their biggest hesitation is the language barrier. Do yourself a favor, and learn Thai!
@MargaritasinParadise6 ай бұрын
I have mixed emotions on this. I know you are right though, maybe 15 years ago I started a Thai language course. In the afternoons I would come home and talk to my in-laws practicing my Thai language. My wife didn't like this as she thought I was learning to quick. She was scared at one point I could understand both Thai & Issaan to well and asked me to stop the school. Later I found out she didn't want me to understand her parents as sometimes they didn't talk good about me. Looking back, her life was good and she was protecting her interest by keeping me in buffalo status. Anyway, I'm steadily learning now.

I use Charles Schwab no ATM fees they reimburse and third party charges as well. Fidelity and others offer the same
@MargaritasinParadise6 ай бұрын
This is a good point! I've only used an ATM a few times as I have so many other options. I know the bank rate is usually a half point lower than the actual exchange rate. Here's an example right now the current XE rate is 36.6799 USD to THB. Bangkok Bank is 36.20 USD to THB I recommend if you're going to use a credit/debit card to definitely use one with free foreign transaction fees. Most banks charge 1-3% on their cards. Charles Schwab which I also use still has this charge but refunds you the charges at the end of your monthly cycle. Unfortunately they dont reimburse for the end charges at ATM you are using which is most likely around 220 Baht. For that reason, I would suggest limiting your ATM withdrawals by making the largest withdrawals possible, usually around 20K baht. Thanks for your input. I can see this is another great topic idea for another video. Thanks again.

What happened when he went to the hospital? I know he had dengue fever, but what did they do for him? The reason I ask is because I watched another guy talk about it and he mentioned the exact opposite as being what he should have done. He went to the hospital and they quarantined him until he was "better". Except it nearly killed him and they wouldn't let him leave the room or do anything, so he got no fresh air or sun or decent food and it was really really bad. All they did was keep checking his t-cell count until it started coming back, luckily he did make it.
@MargaritasinParadise5 ай бұрын
There's nothing that can be done short of getting vaccinated prior. I also had Hemorrhagic Dengue Fever in 2012. It's basically a waiting game that normally takes about 30 days to recover from. My platelet count was extremely low and I had to get 3 blood transfusions. My circumstances were different though, after 3 days in the hospital, they discharged me to hotel room. The hospital sent a nurse to check on me 5 times a day. I eventually fell in love with that nurse. Dengue Fever is a horrible infection. I was in constant pain, I had extreme fevers, so but I felt like my head was going to explode. It was so bad that I thought I was going to die. There's nothing the hospital can do short of trying to make you more comfortable. Pain pills and water was my diet basically as I lost my sense of smell and everything tasted like salt.

@@MargaritasinParadise My god man that's devastating, glad to hear you're ok now. Were you allowed to leave if you had wanted to or been able to, ie would going outside have helped? Is getting it common as I would expect dengue to be less prevalent the more people are vaccinated over time as the odds may start to decrease as a result. Thanks for sharing, good to see something good came from the whole ordeal.
@MargaritasinParadise4 ай бұрын
I don’t know why I’m not seeing these messages until now. I don’t understand the question, can you leave the hospital? Why wouldn’t you be able to leave the hospital when you want to leave? If I wanted to leave or if I could’ve left if I had wanted to, I would’ve put all my clothes and left. I think it will take a long time for the vaccination program to actually work here in Thailand. The vaccinations right now cost money and I doubt if the locals will actually pay the price to get vaccinated because of all this skeptics that basically say vaccinations are no good. Still personally, I wouldn’t consider coming here without the vaccination, knowing what I know now.

Loved the video ❤ 100% agree with the 1 thing Thailand needs; a stable Government that actually supports the people. The welfare system is non-existent!! It’s shameful to see this.
@MargaritasinParadise6 ай бұрын
The Value system in Thailand is different. My X-wife couldn't believe that I had this massive home but my parents didn't live with me in the USA. 20 yrs ago, Thai children went to work at 12 yrs, now most graduate high school. Most main stream essentials in Thai life haven't risen in price in over 20 years. You can still buy chicken/rice for 20baht or rice/vegetables for 10 baht, baht bus is still 10 baht, gov't rate healthcare is mostly free for Thai's. The Thai family is relied on heavily to take care of it's own without much gov't intervention. Still Thailand is getting better everyday. The pension system/OAA started in the last 20 years and has more than doubled in allotments since it's beginning. Nothings perfect but it's accepted by Thai standards and it's definitely getting better. Thanks for your input.

Hi there Enjoyed the video , budget is very subjective, if you need alcohol, western food , and buy your company then your budget is much greater than not needing any of the above, example 400 baht burger or 55 baht Thai lunch , 80 baht beer or 6 baht water , 5 beers 400 baht + double for the lady drinks or 30 baht for 5 waters ( away from the bars ) . Retirement visa costs 1900 baht (£41 $55 ) as opposed to 13000 baht ( £280. $ 355 ) and is very doable , if I can anyone can , my immigration office is not to busy maybe takes 2 - 4 hours depending on how busy it is , Who does John use for his health insurance if he doesn’t mind passing on the company name , I’m 61 and nearly all companies I’ve tried have a 200000 baht excess and are are around 4 to 5 thousand baht per month , which I expect but not the 200000 baht excess Regards Davy 🏴🇹🇭

This is a little off topic but are you allowed to carry pepper spray legally in Thailand? What about tasers or let's say switch blades? Knives with blades longer than 6 inches or designed primarily as weapons are a no-go.", "Tasers are classified as non lethal weapons in Thailand and hence can be kept in home or car for self protection. They are illegal to be carried in the streets" I hope this helps. I offers sit on a balcony at night at look at a different landscape each visit, but you notice day after day week after week that less than half of the condo you look at are unlit and uninhabited, some are actually in a state of disrepair! It got me wondering if people have died in the past and with no Thai family but Albany accounts in credit do they just stand empty until the money runs out? Is it enough to have a will in the uk or do you have to do one here too? I’d think it would be quite a fascinating subject for one of your vids, if a little dark - maybe if you do make it leave it until Halloween, or maybe release it in time for world will day! (I’ve no idea what day that is! Or if it’s even s thing!) So basically if you're like me; average guy, probably bringing in less than 1 million baht a year from abroad, from a country that probably has tax treaties like the UK or USA, Then most likely you won't have a problem. The original intent was wealthy Thai Nationals bringing in millions of Dollars from overseas. KZbinr content creator started putting out there "what if" questions. Obviously your perspectives differ much. I think most people move here with their own ideas of what they want and could careless about the judgmental minority of the world. I say all the time, why would someone live in a seaside community and not be able to see the sea, while others find other priorities in their accommodations. Being able to maintain a strict budget is overwhelming for some while others have endless funds and spend like there's no limit. Others immerse themselves into culture and learn when ever they can. Others see learning a language to be a waste of time as their language seems to work good. I know even more people who can careless what other people think or if others wake up, every morning with a smile. They are the complainers of the world. They are every where. They find it their mission in life to bring happy people down. They disagree with everything especially, if their perspectives are not the same as others. In Thailand, an adult is over 20 years of age. I don't think anyone here is condoning having a relationship with a minor. Thanks for your input. The topic has given me possibly another video topic. Thanks.

I don't believe you are British ( English speaking ) , your grammar & punctuation are atrocious , alternatively you did not go to school in the UK.

@alistairnewton8898 Interesting perspectives again, I had to look up the word atrocious. 😂 I think Margaritas are the answer or possibly a hug. Thanks for your input.

Is it legal to pay for sex in Thailand
@MargaritasinParadise6 ай бұрын
No, it's illegal. Same as using a vape device or speeding in a car, it's all treated about the same.

Expat means immigrant. Like all the expats going to the UK in rubber dinghies.

Right, that's the extreme version but you're definitely right. Another version could be a millionaire flying to a foreign country and staying for an extended time frame. Excellent Perspective, Thanks

Why do you say expat when you're actually immigrants.
@MargaritasinParadise2 күн бұрын
I'm assuming this is a question? Here's my opinion. 🙃 I know this is a play on words and you can call it what ever you want. The general term associated here in Thailand is "ExPat" which if looked up has the same meaning as "immigrant". The word "immigrant" also has that negative stigmatization of potential illegal entry or potentially becoming a citizen. 99% of the Expats in thailand are on termed visa's; which means they have to meet certain requirements to maintain residence as guest of the Kingdom. Overall, the word looks better "ExPat" and that's why there are so many organizations that use it in their names.

@MargaritasinParadise Nonsense, an expat is someone that moves to a country for a certain period of time. An immigrant is one that moves to a country with no plans to return. Call it what it is.

Again as stated in my first line "In my opinion" and of course I looked the words up to verify definitions.

unfortunately I don't believe for one minute John was a farmer or came from a well-to-do family. He stipulated he had been coming to Thailand for 7 years but said he was involved with someone for 8 years. His constantly playing with his thumbs so body language shows a typical lying manipulation tactic. His fidgeting is showing signs of a storyteller ( to put it politely)

Well, that’s an interesting perspective. I’ll tell you in all honesty. Pattaya has some of the most unique people I’ve ever met in my life.
