Not a Thai bar girl story but not too different. I have a mate who due to his job frequented Thailand, the Philippines and Indonesia regularly. He made full use of the bar scene at places like Pattaya and Angeles City etc. He knew all the tricks of the bar girl trade and used to laugh at all the idiots who had their wealth reduced by bar girls. Would never happen to him he boasted so I was surprised when an Indonesian girl turned up with him back in Australia. He reckoned he met her at a book store and they had a great time for a few days. Every time he went back to Jakarta they would hook up and continue to have a great time. He said he never gave her any money as she never asked for it. He just paid for meals and a few gifts. She was a "regular" girl, albeit 20 years younger than him. This went on for a few years as he, being a well versed Aussie male in wiley arts of some asian women wanted her to "prove" that she was really the real deal and the one for him. I met this girl many times, as he brought her to Australia quite a bit. She was very attractive and an excellent cook. She also spoke very good english. To cut this story a bit short he decided to ask her to marry him and she said yes. They had a huge wedding in Indonesia. He was dressed up in a local outfit complete with a sword! Naturally he paid for it all. They moved to Australia and all was well for awhile until she said she missed her friends and family and became a bit moody. A few arguments soon followed. One day my mate was due to fly out for a few days but his trip ended early and he decided to surprise his wife with an unannounced early return. I think he had suspicions. When he got back she was not there. He sat on the balcony waiting for her to turn up and turn up she did, in the passenger seat of a Porsche accompanied by a man.They kissed and she got out of the car. When she came up to the apartment she was very surprised to see her husband home. He asked her where she had been and she said the movies with her friends. A lie of course. He then confronted her with the truth and she flew into a rage and started to trash the place. Eventually she just grabbed some clothes, packed a bag and left. He never saw her again so could only assume she had other places to live. As he cleaned out the drawers he found a hidden diary and in it were literally dozens of phone numbers of her "customers" along with how much she was making. A very, very large sum. Way more than he was making. He was staggered that she could play such a long game and fool him for so long. Since she had gained permanent residency by this stage we assume she is still here, raking it in.

I used to work in Saudi Arabia. In our community were many exptats, all of whom were making very good salaries. One of our neighbors was a Thai woman who had married an English guy. Thank god I (31) found my girlfriend (25). No bad history, no freelancing, nothing of the sort. You have learned a very valuable lesson, Sir. First of all, never trust a bar girl. Seriously, I know no one having a happy life with their falangs, not one. They are always on a lookout for the next falang to cheat, and use as an ATM machine. And they balance their two-three "relationships" at the same time. Brother, what a story! I have my own Thailand story where I met and married a wonderful Thai woman who had emigrated to the USA to attend graduate school -the relationship did not work out for many reasons but mostly probably because I was a "butterfly." We met in NYC. She left Thailand to get away from a country where opportunities for women were relatively limited -her family was VERY upper class which did not appeal to me at the time. Long story short, we divorced and 25 plus years later we are friends who live in different places. I have retired to South America and it's got a similar vibe for any "gringos" who are looking for love on Tinder or in the bars here. I am being milked by a much younger woman with a child and will be taking the advice of many of the writers to your story and moving on to a once again single life. I think you are doing the right thing except for waiting for her to respond. You can't wait for her to have an epiphany and she does not think of anyone but herself. What a great story. Thanks Dan. I had an experience with a bar girl that stayed well within the boundaries of a fantasy play relationship until early one morning. Thai bar girls tend to think frangs are pretty stupid because it is so easy to con money out of us. Like taking candy from a baby. When a group of bar girls are looking over at you giggling, they're not laughing with you, they're laughing at you. It's hard to get serious with a pretty girl who thinks you are an idiot who doesn't deserve respect no matter how much money you might have. Never leave your street smarts or good common sense at home when you go to Thailand. The girl who made me laugh at myself because I felt like I was falling in love was half my age. After a couple of dates she wound up calling me at 3am one morning saying her dad was sick and needed to go to a hospital. What she described sounded like a stroke to me so I told her to put her dad in a taxi and meet me on the way to the hospital. When my taxi and her taxi met she also had her brother in the cab along with her dad. I insisted we travel in my taxi the rest of the way to the hospital because I did not want to put myself in a bad situation if this was some plan to rob me. I took everyone to Siriat hospital where they discovered it was a stroke and asked me to pay for the operation first before they would operate. Her dad spent about a week in the hospital and fully recovered with no after effects. Cost me about 40,000 baht which I saw as peanuts for a brain operation that saved someone's life. After meeting her at the hospital several times during her dad's recovery, I never went out with this incredibly beautiful Thai girl again nor did she try and continue any relationship with me. As distasteful as it may seem, money is often the deciding factor in medical care even when lives are at stake and even in the US. Repressive concepts of sexual morality in the West that see sex outside of marriage as wrong, sinful, and shameful are not viewed with the same disdain in Thai culture. Thais have a much healthier view of sex that enables many sex workers to enjoy their trade without feeling shame or guilt. For example, family members often grab young boys by the genitals as a form of light-hearted teasing while in public since such behavior is seen as an acceptable form of endearment. The fact that sex is more socially acceptable in Thailand is one of the things that makes Thai culture so popular among tourists including those who are not going there for sex. Though most Westerners think their culture is the correct culture that all other cultures should "advance" towards, it is unfortunate that they can't see the unhealthy level of sexual repression in their culture that is responsible for high levels of mental illness. I would say that a lot of Thai girls consider themselves lucky to be attractive enough to work in the sex industry and actually enjoy the attention it brings. Many Thai girls are proud of working in the sex industry where they are admired by peers for the huge amounts of money they make.

I got the feeling that she was tired of him and she just wanted to keep grabbing money, hopefully thinking that he might wake up, but when he didn’t she just got more and more frustrated. She turned it off the love act and would still ask for money. She was on auto p-pilot asking for money and he was giving it. What a complete mess. Poor guy never realized he can have whatever he wants but love from these girls. I think part of the problem is guys just want it easy. Don't show them any emotion just punp and dump etc etc. I obviously don't think trying to have a meaningful long term relationship with a sex worker is a great idea as the chance of a happy ever after is close to zero. However I think if you really do view these women as nothing more than 3 day blow up dolls then you actually run the risk of losing your own humanity in the process. Echoing Dan and several commenters, I'd really recommend against bringing her to Australia. I get that you're a man of your word, but she has not been honest or honorable with you. Also, she's probably aware that time is running out for her with you. That is likely to translate into demands for as much money and as many gifts as she can extract while she's there with you. You had some good times amongst the drama, and have come away wiser and moving in a better direction in your life. If ever there was a "Quit while you are ahead" moment, I think this is it.

Bloody hell, Dan my head is spinning after listening to your advice. I have a Thai gf who works in a regular job. I'm 63 and she 41, 22 yrs younger than me. I visit twice a year. First couple of days are always fantastic but after that her personality sometimes changes for no apparent reason: Silent treatment, wants to be left alone (although she can natter away on phone in Thai for hours), angry comments, smart answers, raising my blood pressure (in a bad way). I am in agreement with Dan. I am 69 and basically a 2 year older version. I have a Thai neighbour and my introduction to Thailand was wonderful. Like yourself bar girls and Pattaya had no appeal so I never went. I wouldn't say I suffer loneliness, I would just prefer to be in a loving caring relationship. I met a few ladies, imagined relationship with each, and realised I must fully understand myself and what I want. For myself it came into 2 categories, 1. Engage in a very active life of supporting her children, family, or business whatever combination, or 2. Engage in a calm life of retirement ... I did meet a well balanced, educated, good English speaking, thai lady that is 60. I know with my net worth I could cherry pick from younger however finding a 10 year difference very caring, similar in thinking and quite fun together. Yes she is poor yet owns her own home and demands nothing. like you my generosity inquired and her monthly bills are abut 7,000 baht and quite itemised to show water, electricity, food, etc. ... what I am saying is I could not find an English lady at my age, Thailand is a beautiful country with many good heart ladies. SIr - I am about the same age as you and have the same outlook. While one part of my body thinks of finding a young attractive 30+/- beauty, my head is telling me my 70's & 80's is right around the corner and at some point I will lose my independence. Finding a lovely, mature, and devoted Thai (or Filipina) in her 50's would suit me fine. Certainly, I know I would need to make things worthwhile for her - future security, etc. In some ways this is transactional too, but a true companion and partner as I age is my goal and in many ways we would be in the same boat. A young girl in her 20-30's would have a completely different objective.

Are you really qualified to be advising 'Bill' not to collect this women from the airport ? Do you realise the result of that ? I don't think this woman has received an Australian Visa without 'Bill' sponsoring her, and being responsible for all her costs within Australia. Not collecting her from the airport, and ignoring her whilst she is in Australia could result in costs far greater than all money given to date. IF she comes to Australia, it would be far better to collect her, have a travelling holiday with her, keep her away from friends and family, enjoy her company as much as possible, even if that requires continuing to be a simp for the duration, ensure she checks-in to leave the country, confirm she is out of the country, and then break all ties and lines of communication with her. Awesome video and great story. This is something all newbies to Thailand should see. You can be going to Thailand for many years and still be a rookie in many ways. You will never stop learning something new about the culture and scams. Searching for love in Pattaya is not the best start. I would say that the best way to have a good time is a short time in Soi 6 or play the game back on them. If you are needy for love, you are in the wrong place. For me, I like to have a kind of relationship where I meet her when I'm there and have some fun. And that she meet other customers when I'm not there. Both using eachother. But loosing your wife and filling that void with thai women will cost you and might not give you what you need. A bar girl don't like you, but if they can fake it enough for a few night, I'm happy.
