Here are several videos taken in June 2016, featuring the Milan Metro - in particular, Line 3 (M3)!
In this video, trains of now-retired 3-car 8000-series (Serie 8000, aka "Tradizionali") sets built by Socimi (Società Costruzioni Industriali Milano) can be seen arriving and/or departing various stations along Milan Metro Line 3. The six 3-car 8000-series sets built by Socimi (8069/8070 to 8079/8080) were equipped with GTO VVVF inverters supplied by Hitachi, which sounded drastically different from the rest of the 8000-series sets (8001/8002 to 8067/8068) that were built by other companies (Breda, Stanga, Fiat) and utilized GTO VVVF inverters supplied by ABB (Asea Brown Boveri). Similar Hitachi inverters could also be found on trains in Japan such as the Tokyu 9000-series, JR Shihoku 7000-sereies, and Tobu 100-series.
The Socimi-built sets seem to have been retired and decommissioned some time after June 2016 (unconfirmed sources say they were retired in 2019) for reasons unknown. As such, the Hitachi GTO VVVF inverter sounds can no longer be heard on Milan Metro Line 3.
