Most of medical practitioners (md, surgeons, dentists, pharmacists etc.) are in the top 1% of the worker pyramid in Thailand. Lots of specialists graduated from North America or Europe so apart from some specific equipments, expertise and skills are at top notch (for private hospitals). The government has to subsidize the cost of medical care so it is accessible by its people so that's why it's very popular for the westerns. Our approach is a hybrid between US and EU, we have public healthcare system (lower QoS due to the number of patients) and private hospitals (better QoS and expensive for locals but considerably cheap for westerns).

I am from Thailand living in the US. I reviewed the Everhealth Care website and was impressed that all the Thai hospitals they listed are very good hospitals. I went to Korea with an agency for medical treatments. When I compare the service and the care I received, I prefer Thailand. In Korea, it seems the doctor avoided talking to me. The nurse never come to check on me. I had to bang in the wall to call for attention because the device use to call a nurse that they gave to me after the surgery fell off and I couldn’t call a nurse to help me with the pain.

With my dental insurance, I would pay $857 there. I had my crown done at Bangkok's Thantakit Dental Clinic. With their 10% cash discount I paid $568.93. My dental insurance reimbursed me $332.16 for this 'out of network' service for the crown. My final cost was $236.77. This is not an isolated case. In 2015 I had a comprehensive physical exam done at Bangkok General Hospital costing $592.45 where I was diagnosed with pneumonia. A few months later after filing a claim, my Blue Cross affiliated plan reimbursed me $520.92. My final cost was $71.53.

The best part was the attitude of the dentist. After light hearted joking about what an idiot I was for not going to a dentist for ten years she took such great care of me and I didn’t feel judged at all. Also since a lot of pain killers are available in the pharmacy without prescription you can go and buy painkillers or whatever you want by the pill for after the procedure. I wonder about that , in my perception, medical issue is something to check as soon as possible. In Thailand , we can walk in to any hospital and every one will see a doctor to check symptom first , any specific examination may be appointed after that if its not serious sickness and can be waited. At least, patients know that they are not in serious sickness and get some medicine to heal or take advice from doctor before coming again for next appointment if further examination or follow up is needed. Its better to call for making appointment in advance, Walk in will also see doctor but it may take long time for queue. Recently I just know that in some countries , seeing doctor is not easy and also expensive. Then I have realized that how hard- working Thai dictors do, especially in the governed hospitals in up country that full of poor people who have no money to get in a private hospital same as many in Bangkok . Appreciate those doctors.

Ever Health is some kind of tour agent that makes it convenient for neo medical tourists to get treatment in Thailand at affordable costs. However, for decades there have been several leading private hospitals offering such services through words of mouth reputation and these hospitals are still doing roaring business right now as they have extensive contacts with several countries. Another option is to get treatment from leading teaching hospitals in Bangkok such as Siriraj, Chula and Rama. They do cater for international patients and all staffs speak English at their international division. All those experts in private hospitals all go through these 3 medical schools for their first medical degree before they study aboard to get specialist certificate, mostly in the US, UK and Japan. Of course, their teachers in Thailand's 3 leading teaching hospitals also got specialist certificates from US, UK, Japan before returning to continue their teaching/treating patients in these 3 leading hospitals.

For UK residents, Thailand would only be chosen for cosmetic or dental work as all other health matters are free at point of delivery - there may be waits but for vital/urgent treatment these shouldn't be too great. Add to this the fact that should things go wrong all other services to deal with the problems are at hand and, of course, free.
