VERY IMPORTANT -- this should have been covered on the ATM part! Do not accept the conversion offered by the ATM -- always decline the conversion. The ATM will sometimes ask you twice -- make sure you take your time and decline the conversion both times. Let your home bank handle the conversion. It should only cost you about $5 USD to withdraw cash not $25 -- plus maybe the same $5 by the local bank but nothing exhaustive.

First off this video was very easy to follow. I love how he got right into it. But health insurance is not required if you’re visiting Thailand, it’s only required if you plan on retiring/ living in Thailand. A lot of times health insurance gets lost in translation, meaning people think you need health insurance just because you go to Thailand. You have a 60 day visa free entry from America once you’re there you can apply for another 30 days for a total of 90 day stay. No health insurance required for that length of time. I agree with some of the other viewers in regards to this video. The Thai government should be responsible for putting out good quality videos like this. So thank you my friend for producing a great video for the individuals like myself interested in traveling to Bangkok.

@@onegreatone2810 Lived here a month now, planning for another 2. As a former United States Marine I can tell you I vastly underestimated my cardio health. It is Houston hot and muggy wet here. Start walking at least 3 miles a day before you come. I shit you not. The girls in bangkok are hot, but Pattaya OMG. Grab App is your life here. You HAVE to have it. Google Translator app goes a long way. Language is currency here. Have additional passport photos BEFORE you leave. SafetyWing for travelers insurance. It's like $50. Onwardticket is the best for proving you're not staying in Thailand. Bookmark and prepare BEFORE you go. I used Todoist to make lists and keep track. Global Entry is something you want for getting BACK IN to the US as well. Gives you TSA Precheck also. If you book through Expedia or a travel agency your shit is fucked. None of that information trasfers to the airlines. I had to manually confirm the seats and TSA# was on the ticket. It's worth calling the airline to verify all information is accurate and use their website as well. Also worth putting internal calling plan on phone during trip. Be sure to enable roaming for data. It's a # code on the phone. I sorted all this out before I left and the hardest thing I had to do was extend my VISA today. Your phone, the data is your life here. It HAS to work. Prioritize that over everything and you always have a lifeline.

I've only been to Bangkok airport one-time landing one-time returning. I found the money exchange better on floor B. Also I think it's the first floor all the way to the right side of the building as you're standing in the entrance there is a street food area inside the building where the food's much cheaper than inside. Also right outside on that end of the building is a 24-hour store for cigarettes or whatever

I was going to mention these 2 tips too! 1) The money exchange booths in the basement with the railink, offer better FX rates compared to the main level. The orange or green "SuperRich" branded FX shops offer the best rates so compare. 2) The foodcourt on the first floor offers traditional Thai food at cheaper prices! It is at the end of the hall.

Nice vid for beginners. However, PRO TIPS: Health insurance is NOT a requirement to entering the Kingdom of Thailand. Also agree with everyone in the comments. Most important thing about ATM usage is not to take the local back exchange when asked. True has better network coverage than AIS. If you have loads of luggage don’t take the train unless your hotel is right beside a train stop. Seen people trying to do it and it can be really stressful for them.

If you need to exchange currency on arrival and you are also planning to catch the train from the airport into Bangkok, i strongly recommend using the money changers located beside (behind) the train station ticket office. You will get a measurably better exchange rate than at arrivals and they are most definitely NOT out of your way, located in the very same vicinity as the station. To find the currency changers, and there are three of them side by side, walk down the left side of the station entrance slope and then approx 100 metres, as though you are walking toward the Novotel Hotel (which is signed) and you literally cannot miss them. When done making your currency exchange, simply walk 50 metres back to the front of the station entrance to purchase your train ticket. Voila, two birds with one stone!! 😀

Great video Chris, with regard to money changing the big four Thai banks never give a decent exchange rate so it is totally worth going down to floor B or changing at one of the Superrich kiosks around town to get a better rate if you're bringing cash; you might also consider a travel money card as you can load funds in THB and the withdrawal fees are usually lower than using your domestic bankcard (i.e. Australian banks charge around AUD$3.50 per withdrawal of up to $2500 per day).

Good video again Chris. Just a note for people from the UK. It doesn't cost $5 per withdrawal from UK banks, they're way more expensive. They charge a percentage usually. Best to open an Online bank such as Starling, then there's just the Thai atm fee. Another tip, try yo use the ATMs outside the banks not 7/11s etc. So if the machine eats your card, you can get it back.

@Batman Lives Xxx . I'm not on about a bank to invest in. A bank to use whilst abroad to make use of the free withdrawals. I've lived on off in Thailand for 21 year's I've saved a bunch the last few year with Starling. If you don't want use Starling use another online bank like Revolut or any other that offers free international cash withdrawals. I was merely trying to help first-time flyers to Thailand.

I would advise you to apply for a "Visa Extension" before you leave. You can get one from a Thai Embassy although I don't know if there have been any changes since I applied for my 30 day Visa with a 60 day extension. You can always leave Thailand and do a Visa run but it takes time and it will cost you more than applying for an extension. Never carry more than 4000 baht and never carry anything bigger than 1000 baht notes. Avoid 10,000 baht notes entirely as you can make mistakes at night or in bars.

Excellent video Chris’ and crew! This is exactly what I do each time I arrive. Excellent advice for a first timer as well. Demystifies arrival. Also if your hungry when you are at the airport, or waiting for a bus, the food court on the lower level is great. So much cheaper than the chain restaurants in the rest of the airport.

Two corrections : 1. atm also charge a 200 baht fee for foreign cards. 2. Cheapest and best sim card deal is go to a normal 7/11 and buy a non tourist plan instead. It's half the price and no difference

Chris, I know I won’t be the first one to say this, but I would pay just to hang out with you and experience Thailand with you. As an introvert, I tend to use grab to restaurants or the mall and then go back to my hotel. I don’t necessarily walk around or take the trains. Too much anxiety. But for some reason, your videos always make me feel relaxed. Thank you for always sharing your life with us. I’ll keep going back to Thailand no matter what ❤🇹🇭

Having an anxiety condition is not correlated with being in introvert. Two different things. I have no problem going up to a counter to buy a ticket, or use a machine in a new country. Be brave. Only takes one time to learn.

We just returned from Thailand a few weeks ago. I've been to Thailand many times in my life, but this was the first time traveling with my wife and three kids. The "van" taxi option at the airport was not large enough to carry all 5 of us plus our luggage so we booked 2 separate vehicles. It was very confusing and frustrating to us. If you're traveling as a large family or group I recommend a private driver.

Check to see if there is a Skytrain at the airport, its cheaper, faster and if there isn't, inquire outside the terminal as to which bus goes where you want it to go. Worst case, call your hotel and ask if they have a recommendation for the airport to hotel service. I never take a cab, taxi, tuk-tuk, Uber or private taxi.

I usually just take the SIM card stands before immigration .. not so busy and every time I’ve moved through the other stands after immigration no price difference. On the atm s I still always argue don’t swear the small stuff. Thailand is cheap so don’t fret too much over Bank fees. I’m usually arriving at peak times so same reduced stress with queuing for taxis just do the rail. Links from that to BTS are epically smooth. 10 years ago less so buy now rivalling Japan smaller cities and better I would argue than HK.
