I’m 67 living in California all my life. I have 3 grown sons who will never be able to afford to buy a home in CA. They all work in construction oldest a contractor, middle a plumber and youngest an electrician. My dream is me to sell my home and all of us buy a piece of land to build our little community/ homestead. I’d love a tiny home and they can build whatever type of homes they want. The grandkids can be close, we can grow our own food, kids could have horses, dogs, etc my ex their dad could join us in his own tiny.

@BethanyLoyd-h6t: They are paying for community and the services that this particular place offers. Plus, tiny house communities are not allowed all over the place. In some areas, they are only allowed in certain areas. Maybe this place met all of their needs. There are some places that charge a lower amount per month, but this amount is fairly standard, at least what I have found. It all depends on what you are looking for. I would want a community to be around, but I get that some would want to live away from others. I feel that way too sometimes.

Sadly, there are bunch of issues with that. Example: I don't drive and need to stay in the city. City zoning laws don't allow these as an ADU, or especially as a primary residence. Then there is NIMBY blocking everything. It all has to start with provincial, city and town zoning laws being changed and I just don't see that happening ever. :(

This is one of those tiny houses that I have no criticism for. It's very thoughtfully planned. Everything about it felt like a lot of thought went into it and that couch looked comfy enough even for Cristian. I noticed USB outlets by the bed and unless you ask for that kind of consideration from a builder it rarely happens. The entire place looked very cozy and easy to move around in and use. I give them 5 out of 5 stars.

@janinafisher1016 ай бұрын
Thank you Kathleen and Byron for your tiny home advocacy! At least there are more communities in the US that are allowing tiny homes. Here in Canada we have a long way to go yet. I do agree that a lot of the challenge is around how to collect enough property taxes, but up here we have a big housing crisis, especially around affordable homes. Although I have been watching the tiny house movement since Jay Shafer's "Tumbleweed" tiny was on the cover of Natural Home magazine back in 2000, I still see a lot of misunderstanding about tiny homes. Many people think that the only people who live in tiny homes (especially THOWs) are poor and have no other choices, and that they will ruin neighbourhoods. And yet what I see in all my research is that these places have the best sense of community overall! I keep sending tiny house videos to the local planners so they know what is possible, and your story and your home is perfect to show what a benefit tiny homes can be for individuals and families. Many seniors want to downsize but don't want to live in apartments or apartment-style condos, and the fact that everybody can live together and benefit from each other in tiny house communities is a real plus in my mind. Thanks so much for sharing your story and your home! And thanks to Alexis and Christian for featuring you!

We purchased a 3 bedroom sheltered apartment, in a village with all amenities in the UK, and we have been here just over 2 years, I’ve just had my 80 th birthday and my husband is 77. We could not be happier in our choice, as the user charge is £300 per month, that includes water, all our waste taken away, and there’s a laundry with washers and tumble dryers which costs are included as well, all,our windows are cleaned, patios cleaned, and all garden services. And house insurance. We have a nice patio and garden outside our French doors, and it’s nice and private. There are things going on if we want to take part or not. As I’m here with my husband and little dog we don’t join many things as we are very busy. Earlier this year my husband’s knee suddenly went, and he had a complete knee replacement. I was so glad we were here, everything to hand, and we organised deliveries of food, and some meals, and there was a lady who took over the ironing and washing of our bedding. So it’s been just lovely. Why people hang on to all the rubbish that nobody else wants, just give it to charity, and let them make some money with the possessions you’re not ever going to need again.

You nailed it, Kathleen, by saying you're expected to own a house and pay property taxes, even if it doesn't fit your lifestyle or financial situation. In our neighborhood we've seen elderly people deal with the care and maintenance of owning standard size homes even when they would be better off in a place that's easier for the to take care of, and cheaper to run. Love this tiny home that was so brilliantly designed!! And the couple seem to be outstanding people willing to help push forward for more allowances for these homes to be built for smarter more economically friendly for those of us who who wish to downsize to survive well in our every increasing economy. Not everyone would opt to live this way just as people who live in mobile homes or RV’s some still choose to live in traditional housing. The more options available the better for our community built to allow everyone to thieve. If we are too focused on the almighty dollar we will miss meeting the needs of everyone. My prayers are with this couple and others as they trail blaze for these communities and certain areas to at least be zoned for these tiny homes. Thanks for videoing this tiny home and sharing all the information of how and why they chose to build it the way they did.

@@kathleenwhite3652 Oh hi Kathleen! You have such a stunning home and location. I hope to have a dog one day...until then it fills my heart with joy to see other people's. I know everyone in my village but their dog's names. 🤣

Very nice tiny home! Excellent use of space - You've both planned this out so well. Lovely, and the community is so nice as well. I always thought I wanted to live alone in a tiny - but as I age (nearing 68) I'm re-thinking that! Happy Tiny Living!

Before moving into Acony Bell, I too wanted my own property for our tiny home. But there are incredible benefits to living in a community together.

My husband and I would love to get a tiny home, but we need to have three homes connected. One for him, one for me and one for us. Looks wonderful!

I have wanted a tiny house ever since I started watching the shows on TV. I retired 10 years ago and it is so difficult cleaning my house even though it's less than 2,000 sq.ft. I was recently diagnosed with scoliosis. I am in a lot of pain and unable to do much cleaning. It would take me forever to downsize all my accumulated items but it would be worth it in the long run. You've made me aware of something I didn't know, how dare the government not allow people to live in tiny homes permanently. The government has too much control over our lives for us to be able to even enjoy living anymore. It gets worse everyday. Citizens really catch the brunt of everything whereas immigrants have a better advantage. If anyone can provide where I need to go and help get that law passed, please let me know how to proceed. Your home is absolutely gorgeous and it makes me want one so bad. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Really enjoyed this TH tour. I like how this couple tried to think of everything that might occur in the future. Love the design and the first floor bedroom. I’m sure they did a lot of paring down coming from a 2,000 SF home, but it looks like they have everything they need! Wishing you many more happy years of Tiny house living together!

I really loved your colour scheme, so many hues of blue, aqua, turquoise, including your sweater! Sounds like you are really enjoying your place, so much. Best of health to you both!

I hope more states and counties legalize for tiny home communities.
