Selling our home and traveling full time was the best decision we made in retirement. We don’t regret one thing we gave away or sold. It was just “stuff” and making travel memories are so much better than the frivolous comforts we surrounded ourselves with. John & Bev

I don't get it. This is all about selling your possessions. Just empty out your house and rent it out to produce income. Why sell the house?
@MagentaOtterTravels2 жыл бұрын
@@kevinwelsh7490 I agree. That’s what we do…. Rent out multiple houses for the passive income. But I think some people use the cash from their home to invest/live on until pensions or social security begins.

It's amazing how many conversations we've had with friends and family about selling a home and the stuff accumulated during life. It was a pretty easy decision for us - we value travel and freedom more. But it is definitely a hard decision for lots of other people. Thank you for sharing your story! Your early videos were so helpful for us when we were in the midst of boxes, construction workers, and real estate agents - they helped us keep our eye on the prize! And now we get to enjoy your wonderful videos sitting on the roof terrace of a gorgeous rental home in San Miguel de Allende with a view of the jacaranda trees and parrocchia while drinking our coffee and plotting the day of adventures ahead. Sending you a big "cheers" for all you have and continue to accomplish and inspire for the rest of us!

You mention San Miguel de Allende I had a friend who was planning to move from Bermuda to San Miguel de Allende & she said it was a wonderful place. She was in her late 60's at the time & she asked if I would help her with the moving which I agreed, unfortunately her house purchase fell through & she since moved to the USA. I often think about a visit to San Miguel as the way she described it made it sound so nice with a lot of artisans & a good expat community. I'm now 61 kid's flown the nest & now may just be the time to take the trip. Nice to know you are enjoying life there.

@@fatwallet13 It is indeed a lovely place! It's a wonderful small city/big town full of amazingly welcoming people. Great video guys! It was fun to watch:) My husband and I sold our home and retired last fall. We traveled France, Italy and Portugal & Spain and returned "home" to Toronto (in an Airbnb) to see family in December. We've now been in Puerto Vallarta Mexico since January. We also found that we are happy to spend 24/7 together but after working together all last summer renovating our home before sale that we wanted a chance after raising our family and building/selling our businesses- to rest. Youngest goes off to college in 2024. We plan to start traveling that fall likely booking a transatlantic cruise to kick off what I'm calling our freedom chapter. I'll continue working remotely as long as my job allows flexibility and we're slow traveling. Likely retire within 7 years before I turn 50. We won't sell our home due to our oldest having a disability and will continue to live in our guest house. The main home will be put on Airbnb to be rented when we travel. Or to "force" us to travel because someone wants it for a month or two. The only other hiccup in this plan is pets. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats getting up there in age. Once they are gone we'll be far more flexible as our oldest won't have that responsibility when we're gone. Another lovely video. Turkey is on the top of our list and seeing all your videos gives us so many ideas of new places to check out. Keep up all the great content. Safe travels!

Hello! Happy end of March! thanks as always for sharing the nuts and bolts of what it takes to do what you do. I mentioned that hubby and I are in the midst of doing the same thing, and we are 'out of here' mid-June. It makes sense, to sell your biggest asset to move forward and accomplish your priorities. I can relate to Sarah's comments about work, and Sundays and the whole scenario. As you get older and more experienced, you realise the work field has lost it's lustre (if it ever was there). I can't wait to become the happier version of myself. Hubby is in his last week of work, and is over the moon. I'm on the payroll until the house sells, but we are downsizing daily and loving it. Some things are hard to change, the personal relationships and daily contact with friends and neighbours, but remembering our goal helps me get over those hurdles. Enough people have stayed in touch with me over the years after moving away, so we know it's possible! Thanks for encouraging others to at least take a look at what they want and how it could be achieved, if they are willing to make the changes. It's ok to rethink and do what feels right - even if others don't 'get' it, if people know and love you, they will support you. Out of all the people we have told about this (at least 30 or more), only one person said, 'that won't be enough' ie money, etc. With pensions, other income and investments, no mortgage/taxes/hydro/gas/water/... we think it IS do-able. Happy to prove the naysayers wrong. All we have to do now is learn to do the slow travel :) Imagine a new reality... Imagine!!! BTW Turkey looks beautiful!! Thanks for the travelogue and FIRE coaching combination! Til next week :) P.S., we are storing things, though, can't fully let go! Timelines aren't clear and we don't see this happening for 10 years, :) need to keep the practical bits for a restart, should it be needed. That is the perfect balance for us!

You will find it is doable, as we said in the video about budgeting, there are just so many (unexciting) line items that have now just disappeared from our budget, lovely!!!! Turkey is lovely, get it on your list. Best wishes Neil & Sarah

New subscriber, enjoying your channel. Good for you, very reasoned decision, ESPECIALLY if your careers did not bring you joy. I retired early at 55 from a very highly engaging yet perennially stressful corporate career. ( Projects and leadership activities were always interesting but corporate politics and people management can get old.) The action precipitating event for early retirement was both my desire to pursue my passions and my parent's health; they moved here so that I could be their health care support. Dad lived about a year, mom lived 5 years. This was such a gift for all of us. Because I travelled regularly to interesting international locations for my corporate life, and spent 5 years in my 20s living cheaply overseas, long term travel is not my main priority. I am a full time liberal arts college student, amateur musician (play in multiple groups), crafter and activist. I do plan on doing "slow travel" in NYC this fall, I will stay for a full month so that I can really get into the joys of the city. .People were shocked that I retired early, but it was the best decision ever. Knowing when you have "enough" is a good thing I found that in general retirement is cheaper than regular life. Will you ever come to America? The Pacific Northwest is beautiful, if you could do a van or RV rental to go to all the national parks.

Sounds like you made some impressive plans to be honest... We speak at the end of the video today about the word "Intentional" and that we find that most of our advice comes down to that, make a decision and act rather than float through life, you have done that and it sounds wonderful with the arts activity. Great to hear from you Megan, and yes we will be in the US on our journey. Best regards, Neil & Sarah

Love this week’s video! You gave us a new place to ponder going to! We retired early last June and spent nine months traveling Mexico. We’ve decided to slow things down even more, and will spend a year in Guadalajara. Our health has improved, my husband and I are closer than ever. However, no matter how well I think I’ve planned, we exceed budget, which is stressing me a bit. Inflation is definitely affecting us. We sold our home and belongings, and that’s what we’re living on. I never feared we’d run out, but the market turns and inflation definitely add stress to the point that we are thinking of part time online work. I’d love to hear how you are managing these economic changes.

Can't wait to visit there in the future it looks amazing! We are planning our retirement not super early for my husband anyway! He's 65 but I'm 10 years younger than him and so afraid to not have a place to land here in the us. We need to sell our house to be able to do this and just like the two of you we do not have children so there's really not much holding us back! Other than the fear of selling everything off. We were thinking of having a small apartment here to make sure that we could handle transition to a move to Italy. We'd like to eventually buy something there and then let go of the US property. I admire what you're doing I don't think that we could completely be no meds as you are maybe if we were 10 years younger! But appreciate what you doing and how you did it! I wish I could convince my husband to get rid of his huge record collection! That's the toughest one for him! Love your channel!

I always said to Sarah before that I would need to be buried with my collection when the time came, but now I really feel a weight lifted not having it. I will happily give him some of my words of wisdom if it helps him through that tough stage :-) We understand the desire to hang onto a place, we really do and doing this in slower more methodical stages is certainly a really good plan. We did the 'Rip the Elastoplast off' approach and it seemed to suit us. I have to say, I remain shocked and impressed with how Sarah took to that approach and I am always in awe of her. Congratulations. First and foremost, you both are doing a great job and your channel will see increase views as time goes on. Patiences. Secondly, There are many, many options to retire early to explore the world. There are not one perfect way to do so. My spouse and I have increased our travel bug towards semi-retirement starting in 2017 to present. The pandemic changed the lives for many that enjoy traveling. The new and ongoing challenges to travel with covid is hard and stressful. So planning is so important and using ones network is so important. Covid has hurt many that were caught in NO Where land during travel and were not able to return home. The stories I chatted with some that have retired on a fixed income and are now struggle with the inflation . We learn this in our last 21 days of travel in Thailand. The stories are shocking. We have been traveling too many countries staying at airbnbs , learning a lot and really enjoyed ourselves. Our goal is to keep our home base. We are lucky we can do so. We do not wish to sell our home since the taxes would take a big portion. We started early by investing early and created a steady stream of passive income that permit us to semi-retire. We believe we can semi-retire to work and manage our business while living in another country. We continue to live below our means even during traveling and seeing the world. We highly suggest others do the same. We look for bargains and keep looking for bargains. So it is important to meet local expats during travel and learn from their experiences so we do not make a poor financial decisions while in the country. We were lucky to mete hundreds and learned so much. First and foremost, I learn to take public transportation in each place we visit. so far, it has been very efficient way to get around and especially a great way to meet local people. My spouse has learn that we meet more locals. We are able to get more information and learn more this way. Some locals in fact invite us to have dinner with them. We had many invite us to their homes to stay. We always budget our housing budget at $20-60 a night with the most important items, a kitchen, a washing machine, WIFI plus near public transportation. We always shop where locals shop for food. We keep our budget less than what we spend at home. This is a way to continue to keep our finances within control. We are semi-retired for one reason, we do not want to sell everything and retire full time, just in case we have a serious medical problem and are not mobile. ( like a stoke and are not mobile, giving the other individual more stress . ) The other reason, we do not know where we really wish to retire for a longer period of time. So semi-retirement makes sense to us. This may not work for everyone. The other options for those that have a home and does not wish to sell, can use their home as an income stream by sharing the home to rent in an exchange. So since 2018, we have been able to travel to the following cities and countries on a realistic budget. ( not in any specific order ) partial list: Prague, istanbul, havana, Bali, Saigon, Singapore, Georgetown, Honolulu, Vancouver, Calgary, toronto, Hong Kong, xiamen, Shanghai, Beijing, Russia, Ukraine ( prior to the war ), Ethiopia, Paris, Nice, Barcelona, Lisbon, Madrid, Valencia, Seville, Granada, Milian, Rome, London, Ecuador, Santiago, Chile, Guatamala, Wuhan, Suzhou, Hangzhou, Bangkok, Pattaya, Morocco, Israel, Columbia, Mexico , taipei, Taiwan, seoul, Korea, Caribbeans, dubai, DOHA, Philippines and Jordan. In a few more years, we will start to narrow down the countries and cities that we enjoy to stay for 90 to 180 days at a time to keep the travel cost down. This will be the goal towards 3/4 retirement. What is important is to have access to medical needs as we age. So this is the top condition to find a place to retire. One does not wish to self insure unless one can really afford it. We highly recommend purchasing annual travel insurance that would cover for an emergency. the price is very cheap at $485 to $700 annually. For example, if one has a stroke during travel, the insurance should pay for immediate coverage and a flight back home for more medical attention. Most annual travel insurance does not cover pre-medical conditions. So this is important to know. So it is important to continue to grow the network in each country and bond. As we age and one day, We will not be able to travel due to health related issue. We will need to find an assisted living facility. So doing that homework during travel is important. Lastly, what happens when one passes away during travel, We have set up a service that will pick up the remains to be cremated and the remains to be shipped back home to a local cemetery with one phone call. Must prepare for the worse. Great video.... We hope to meet you both in our path of travel of retirement. We would love to learn more from you both and share our limited knowledge. Cheers.

Well, I waved goodbye to my 22 yrs of "stable job" & London a little over 7 years ago at 51 and after having visited & woking on the go in 30+ countries thus far, there's no way to go back to London & being tied down to 9-5 ever again! Very uplifting video. It's so inspiring listening to people following their dreams...I never thought of selling the house...only for financial reasons. I will never be able to save enough - and then after 10 years of traveling (spending all the money invested), I would worry about not having somewhere to live. Housing amounts to the majority of the living costs - after traveling if you own a house, you can get by with a minimum salary or even the state pension. Can't wait to watch your next videos. Are you going into more detail? Your savings allocation, withdrawal strategy, UK taxes/residency while traveling, etc?

Hey Maria! You raise a really good point and all that is something we constantly keep under review. We are hopeful that the returns on investments will be in line with the returns on the housing market but it is important to maintain a watchful eye over that eh. Another top notch video! Looks like an absolutely gorgeous place! The home you’re renting….WOW!!! I had to pick my jaw off the floor when you said how much it cost. What a fabulous deal! My husband and I are planning to retire, however, not early. My husband will be 65 this October and he becomes eligible for his pension this year. We are going to wait two more years to retire, though, so he can receive a bigger percentage of his social security. I can hardly wait! Our plan is to sell almost everything, including our house. We plan to slow travel for several years, not sure exactly how long, yet. When we get ready to settle down, we plan to retire to a foreign country, right now, Portugal and Ecuador are our top two destinations for that. One of the dilemmas that we’re facing, when it comes to selling everything, is our hobbies. I got into quilting a few years ago and my husband makes model cars. We spent a lot of money over the years buying supplies for our hobbies and I think we’re going to have difficulties when it comes time to sell everything. I can relate to your record collection, in that sense. We’re thinking we might ask our oldest son if we could put a storage shed in his backyard and keep our hobby stuff in there until we’re ready to settle down. In the meantime, we are already getting rid of a lot of things that we already know we won’t need for traveling, or won’t want to ship to a new country. Looking forward to seeing more of Turkey! Safe travels. ❤️❤️
@2GoRoam2 жыл бұрын
Hey Lorrie! Absolutely. We love this place and it is incredible what we are paying. This has been a real win for us for sure. Understood with regard to your plan to stick around at work for the Social Security. That is a dilemma about the hobbies for sure, it is helpful if you have a hobby that is portable. We have friends Emily and Ryan from The Snail Travelers KZbin channel and Emily loves sewing. That is obviously rather more portable than quilting or model cars. That is a tricky one, maybe something you could do (although this is rather flippant of me to suggest!) is to do some google searching or KZbin searching for Portable Hobbies and there maybe something there that piques your interest to take on the road, knowing that when you settle one day you can both get back to the Quilting and model cars? Thanks as ever for your kind comment! Best wishes Neil & Sarah
@edj55322 жыл бұрын
lorrie. I would suggest your husband do the math on waiting another two years or 67 before applying for the social security. Opportunity cost to getting the social security benefits earlier verses later. Social security is also going to reduce the pay out which is wrong in the future. remember, social security is a supplement to ones retirement. One needs to have many streams of retirement income since nothing is guaranteed in life. Cash is not good since inflation erodes the value. Stocks are not completely safe. Bonds are also limited. passive income may needs management. so diversify is important. Portugal and Ecuador are both countries that are great to retire, the people are really friendly. the fresh veggies and fruits are better in Ecuador plus US dollars par with the local currency. enjoy retirement earlier than later.
@Where_in_the_world_are_we_now2 жыл бұрын
@@edj5532 I appreciate your thoughtful reply! We have weighed out all the pros and cons, and we feel our best option is to wait two more years for his retirement. He will get a bigger percentage (albeit, not 100%) of his social security. He also becomes eligible for his pension this October and we have a 401K, so we should be okay. On one hand, it’s become so sad that so many people will not be able to retire in the USA, but on the other hand, I’m so thankful for people like Neil and Sarah, who have encouraged us to have a bigger vision of what our retirement can look like. We are now looking forward to slow traveling and discovering where we would like to live our new retirement adventure! 😁

@@Where_in_the_world_are_we_now Life has not guaranteed. This is more so as we reach age 60 plus. My father taught me on his death bed that money is not to be placed on a pedestal to worship but to be use. He passed away and had millions. He never enjoyed life which is totally wrong. He told me on his deathbed at age 90, "I wish I would have taken more time to travel when I was younger" Sadly, his health did not permit him to travel in his later years. He was brought up during the depression and he was frugal all his life. I lost my two younger cousins ages, 54 and 56. I had plans to travel with them but sadly. This will never happen. I think Neil and Sarah are doing gods work. More and more Americans should start to travel more and see the world. There are many options how to see the world. Use All the travel benefits from mileage programs and credit card benefits. Travel can be very expensive or very reasonable. FYI, Airbnb are great but more and more countries are adding more taxes on the booking which increases the cost. I have spoken with hundreds of expats all over the world. The stories are all very interesting and valuable. Country that are reasonable to retire: IMO Thailand, Vietnam, Ecuador. I recommend to plan for the worse during slow travel. life is not guaranteed. purchase annual travel insurance, not really expensive. some countries have better medical programs than others, especially when it comes to standard medication. blood pressure, cholesterol, blood thinners and diabetes meds. purchase final plans which a phone call can help address. remember to order more death certificates since they will be needed. enjoy the years of slow travel....sooner than later....all the best....

Great video you two! I have only started watching your videos, but quite enjoy your humour and look forward to watching more. The reason I started watching is because my husband and I are not planning slow travel, but, we will be selling everything to move abroad. We already purchased a home in Mexico and visit whenever possible. Luckily we live close enough that the plane ride is only 4-5 hours away. My hubby and I have planned this for many many years. basically in our 20's we knew we wanted to retire early. haha. But we have since had 2 children and they are getting older. Youngest is 15, so we have a few years before we leave him. But both kids know that we don't plan to stay in Canada to retire and they are fine with it. We totally love our kids but they will have a life of their own so why shouldn't we? Many of our friends and family think we are crazy but many also wish they could do it too. What my long wind is getting at is, I think you two have a great plan and look forward to watching more! Cheers! :)

My plan is to keep my house in the San Francisco Bay Area but slow travel a couple of months per year once I retire in a couple of years. I love the idea of slow travel - I can definitely relate to your feelings about vacation while you were working. Trying to cram all the fun and relaxation into a week or two. But, I’ll balance that with my daughter and her fiancé living here in California -so I’ll keep a home base here. Bravo! I quit my job with the Government of Canada on Oct 30, 2014 & set sail on a solo travel adventure. I can honestly say, I have never been more at peace with any decision I have ever made. Sadly, in March 2020, I was COVID stranded in Istanbul, Turkey for 5 weeks. Eventually, the Canadian Embassy got 370 of us back to Canada on April 15th. After a nano second of thinking what I was going to do, I decided to apply for a residency visa for Mexico. On July 29, 2020, I was on a plane, headed to Mexico. Within 28 days, I had my residency card in hand & for the last 2 years, I have been traveling around Mexico. In January 2022, inflation hit the hotel industry in Mexico City so, I gave up my 7.5 year Gypsy travels & found an affordable apartment with a month to month lease & settled in as best I could. Alas, I no longer want to be tethered to anything so, I gave notice to my landlord & left Mexico City on July 27...2 days short of the 2 year anniversary of the day I arrived. I am currently in Southern California house/pet sitting for a friend who is on vacation in Canada. On Sept 12, I will resume my world travels & will fly from LAX to Singapore. I will spend some time in SE Asia & then continue on to Eastern Europe. I hope to visit Turkey again & I really want to get to Tbilisi, Georgia. Georgia has a 360 day tourist visa so, if I like it, I might stay awhile. As with you guys, I have not had a single day of regret about quitting my job, selling my condo, car & all my "stuff" & hitting the road. I have never looked back. This summer, I didn't even bother going back to Canada for my 25th year of volunteering for the Edmonton Folk Music Festival. Perhaps I'll make my way back for a final (25th) year of volunteering in 2023. The emotional ties have faded bit by bit & now, I feel really content to roam anywhere I want for as long as I want. I really enjoyed this video & see a lot of myself in your comments. Keep smiling...it makes people wonder what you're up to! 😄

hahaha...this is one f your best video so far! we completely agree with everything you discussed you two...we're on our First 7 months of retirement and were currently living here in the philippines - enjoying life in different islands and cities. the only difference is that we have not got rid of our house and cars yet which is costing us £1300 a month even whilst we're away. can't fully decide whether to sell or not as we want to get back to UK and enjoy the spring and summer months. next destination after summer 2022 is Antarctica and South America for 6 months, covid permits ...thanks for your brilliant content x
@2GoRoam2 жыл бұрын
Hey Reawakened Curiosities! That is a really thorny issue isn't it about maintaining the home. £1300 is an amount of money that means you have to think about it isn't it. Tricky thing we have found with the UK is that the cost to rent when returning is eyewatering isn't it! So it isn't straight forward. We are so excited to get to the Philippines sometime soon. Is it as incredible as it looks? Best wishes Neil & Sarah
@autilonskorr2372 жыл бұрын
Hi there, About a year ago I came across the idea of nomad retirement as an extension of the idea of moving out of the UK to a 'place where we'd be on holiday everyday'. The idea had evolved from being on holiday in one place, to being on holiday in many places. So, like yourselves of a few years back, we have been planning the financials to get us there. Unlike your plan ours has renting out our existing house, and I'd be interested as to why you didn't go down a similar route. We already rent out a house and our rough figures show that leaving a 25% deposit of £55k would give us an annual income twice what could be expected by drawdown of 4% on a similar value investment, and assuming that 60% of rental income was given to running and maintenance costs of the property. I'm also interested in how your plan covers the eventuality of not travelling any longer and settling down full time, be it through health concerns or political changes in the world. Cheers.
@2GoRoam2 жыл бұрын
Hey Autilon! Welcome to the comments, love to have you here! That is a interesting shift that you have made to holiday in many places, we support that 100%. A good choice! As for the buy v sell everything. You raise a really good point and in fact we are working on a video at the moment that will come out in 2 weeks time which will explain our attitude on this. I don't want to give you any spoilers but a lot of it comes down to.... You are right but we have had some bad experiences. That video is going to be painfully personal, we are currently at the scripting stage and deciding how much we want to put in there. Sounds like you have that right approach to the rental market and we would support your approach on that. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Best wishes Neil & Sarah

Hi Neil and Sarah, Compliments on another fun and interesting video. It is great to see you enjoying your time together. One question for you: would you consider spending a month or two in some of these locations maybe next time round? There would be both cost savings on the accommodation as well as less air and other travel expenses. You could also get friends and family to come out and stay for a week or more (accommodation vouchers when you are back in the UK as they reciprocate!). Also, you build on the friendships of the new people you are meeting. Of course, it might make it more difficult to deliver the impressive quantity and quality of KZbin videos you are giving us here! Cheers, Rod

Hey Rod! In a word.... YES! We have loved a lot about Turkey and we think we could spend extended time in Kusadasi, Izmir and Fethiye so far, but probably not in Istanbul as it was a fast paced city which we think is better suited to short term stays. So in the coming years, you will find us doing longer stays in places like this. Like the idea of friends and family coming to visit too! Thanks as ever Rod! Best wishes Neil & Sarah

Traveling is expensive and have many costs. Expenses don’t go away when traveling. A house purchase is a hedge on inflation and appreciates over time. You seem younger than actual retirement age. Nothing wrong with retiring early, but it’s not like you can suddenly return to the workforce if there’s a sudden expense and a medical issue prevents you from working. That’s why it’s better to max out on working and then decide on how to manage expenses. Living in a rental is expensive and you’re at the mercy of landlords.

Hey Julie! Firstly, thank you so much for getting in touch. Absolutely... why wait to 67, we never know what is around the corner so forging ahead with your plan when it is practical to do so makes sense and although we have a firm plan of 10 years, there is a lot to be said for having no plan at all. Our plan is there because we can be impetuous and if we didn't force ourselves to travel, we would find the first nice place and stay there. You raise a good point about traveling as a lone female and it is something to think about for sure. Obviously we are coming at this as a couple but that isn't to say we don't know singles that are doing this lifestyle or are planning to sometime soon. We think that things such as Facebook Groups and Whatsapp Groups are your friend on the road. It is impressive how things can just mushroom, when we were in San Miguel de Allende in Mexico, we saw someone setup a little group on Facebook as they came to town, then by the end of the month there were loads of photos of big groups that she was a part of and she was having a fine old time. Different locations will operate at different paces for sure, but confidence and pushing through your comfort zone will pay dividends for sure. Please do keep in touch, when you are ready to hit the road, we should have a chat and can put you in touch with friends of ours. Best wishes Neil & Sarah

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I’m sure it will work itself out one I hit the road but still keen to know about any solo females doing a similar thing. I know I will have to make an extra effort to be put myself out there and meet friends. If the comments on this page are anything to go on it shouldn’t be hard to meet other travellers, expats and hopefully locals too. My loose plan is similar to yours in that I hope to travel for the best part of 5 years to investigate places to potentially settle for a little longer.

I’m new to your channel and finding it very informative and enjoyable. I would love to have a link to the listing of your accommodations from this video, if you care to share? Thank you and happy travels!

Your video is inspiring me. Maybe I can edge my wife into some traveling. We are in our 70's and in great health, but most likely have much less "mobility time" left than you do. Together we've lived our entire lives in the USA and the only foreign countries we've been to are Jamaica and the Bahamas. Question, looking for ideas, what are a couple of your most enjoyable vacations?

We have kept a primary home in Southern California and have it rented to one of our adult children. It provides us a free “Air BnB” when we need a break from traveling and it is in an area that has increased in value exponentially in the last 5 years to the point that we would never be able afford to buy it again. It’s in a very walkable area so when we get old we can walk to stores and restaurants. What is your plan after 10 years of traveling? Do you plan to settle back in the UK? Looks like your Air BnB is a perfect home away from home! Are you finding your accommodations on AirBnB or another platform? We are booking for Spain this Spring and finding costs for accommodations pricey.

Hey Dina! That is cool to keep a residence and rent it to one of your kids, means that you can trust your tenant and they have a landlord they can trust too! The best idea all round. After 10 years, we are hoping that we will want to settle but at the moment it feels really unlikely that we would want to settle in the UK but who knows... we are kind of using this 10 years as a long house hunt. The majority of our stays come from Airbnb but sometimes it is word of mouth or facebook groups. The biggest secret is really to travel in shoulder season. We wouldn't really be able to afford Spain in the later Spring we don't think. Turkey is just now really starting to increase the prices of accommodation as the warm weather hits. Best wishes Neil & Sarah

I've thought about different options, but would probably start out renting our home for several months at a time. I figure we can get about $3800 a month in rent or about $325.00 day on AirBnB which would allow us to dip our toe in the water.. Love your Turkey digs!! Quite a deal! I'm in the process of reserving an Airbnb in Cali and the average for that town is $500 a night! Turkey look a darn site better for value!

Hello both. As you know i can so relate to this. I still get that Sunday evening feeling. I have reduced work to a 9 day fortnight so get every other Friday off...its a start. Regards selling my house, my daughter may have something to say about me selling whilst she is still living in it,but im thinking i can get her to rent it from me and pay the ridiculously high gas and electric bills😂. You both look so happy and healthy. Take care and look forward to the next video.xx

I just found your channel and I love it! Good for you to follow your dreams. I have subscribed because I love supporting people like you rather then watching tv. I have a question for you. Did you ever decide to take a month long holiday first? I would love to retire early and travel but I’m single and it’s just not as much fun alone. If I find a good friend that I can wrangle into some long trips during winter I might start there. Enjoy

Isn't nomadic living great! We sold everything including our home in California last April and have been on the road since. First we traveled around the US in our 21' travel trailer but now we're 1 month away from flying to Europe for a few months. We're using Nevada as our home base since our daughter lives there and my parents (90 and 93 years old) are about an hour away. For me, the hardest part is being away from family especially with my parents being in their 90's which means we'll probably go 'home' a bit more often to check in.

Hey Debbie! Absolutely it is... we are loving this lifestyle so much! Yes we understand that and we have the same concerns with us having parents in their late 80's it is difficult. We use Facebook Portal (we bought them a unit that plugs into their TV) so anywhere we can have a video chat. We tend to video chat our folks 2 or 3 times each week which is a help but not the same as being there. We love Nevada! One of our favourite US States! Best wishes Neil & Sarah

No way! I can’t believe that you have your own pool located one step away from your lounge! 🙀

Slow Travel is really appealing once we get to early retirement. That is still a way off for us as we are still early 30s with young kids. But by the time the kids finish high school, we shouldn't need to work!

Hey Steve! Well what a dream to work towards, we think that where you are different to 95% of people your age is that you have a plan and not blindly going through life and ending up with whatever life gives you. Enjoy your time and your children growing and then start the adventure. Great! Best wishes Neil & Sarah

Love your videos, as always. This isn't a retirement question, but perhaps you could address it in a future video. I started slomadding recently (sold everything). As you think of your 10 years, will you repeat locations? With what cadence? How do you decide a place is a 12-night location versus a 28-night spot? Thanks!
@2GoRoam2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jenny! Really good questions of course! So what we have done in Turkey is actually a conscious decision to have a bit of a road trip for fun. So we hired a car with a plan of covering a lot of ground over a relatively short amount of time (around 2 months). However, this isn't the style that we will continue with or prefer. Take for example where we are in Fethiye, it feels like being here for 12 days has got us to the position of actually knowing some people here. Fist bumps and hellos as we walk and cycle through town.... then we are moving on. We both feel that with this town particularly we could stay a month or two. So we are more the 28 night kind of travelers. However! Doing this trip has been interesting and your question has just prompted something in me that I am going to discuss with Sarah in a minute.... Maybe the ultimate plan could be.... get to a country... hire a car, then visit 7 locations in all parts of the country for a week and in so doing, decide where we would like to spend extended time. Don't think we would do that but it sounds a compelling idea. Only reason I say that is, we visited a town here in Turkey that came highly recommended to us and well.... we were there for 12 nights but just didn't really feel it. It would have been wasted time for us to have stayed there 28 nights. But then Fethiye, we wish we were spending more time.... I am rambling! Thanks as ever for your lovely comment :-) Best wishes Neil & Sarah

We sold our house and all our stuff in Sep 2021 to travel full time. We love it!! We are not retired though. We're still running our business and plan to retire in 5 years.

Love and admire your choice. Spend it all and come back to the UK in 10 years and rent. I am sure you have private and state pension waiting for you on your return. At least if one of you ends up in a care home the state cannot grab your house.

Great video. But the big question is - What happens after the 10 years? Where will you live?

You mentioned some Facebook device used for video calls with family. Can you explain in greater detail what you were referencing, please? Thanks.

Hey Chris! Sorry for the delay getting to you. Are you UK based? If so this is a wonderful product (and a discount link in the description to our videos, we get nothing from that by the way). It is called Devyce or Xpatfone. If you google Devyce you will get all the detail. If you want more info from me, just drop a line to info@2goroam.com and I am happy to drop you a mail about our experience with it. Best regards, Neil & Sarah
