Summed up in one sentence: Palpatine didn’t give a shit about anyone but himself. He made his followers feel like they were his trusted confidants but stabbed them in the back eventually. I will say though, even though Palpatine cared about Anakin primarily to achieve his goals, I think he did somewhat care for Ani a bit. He says to Yoda: "Darth Vader will become more powerful than either of us". I think that showed that in an extremlt twisted and dark way he did somewhat care for Ani.

As I listened to your excellent video, a thought came to me... The Sith are incredibly weak comparatively to the Jedi, in the grand scheme of things. Before Bane, their infighting was their downfall, after Bane, it took them 1000 years just to break even with the Jedi, and then, the total investment in such few individuals made them vulnerable to defeat, merely because of their lack of numbers. One slip-up and the chosen one became almost useless. And how long did their tenure last? 30 years vs 1000 before that of the Jedi and indefinitely after with Luke. In the end, the philosophy they had of focusing entirely on themselves made them completely vulnerable, as they had no one to fall back on. The Jedi did commit hubris, yes, but in the end, the lesson to be taken away is that it is better to co exist with other beings than to rule them and be tyrannical. Because, Sidious, in the end merely ruled a galaxy where everyone was trying to kill him... and eventually they succeded... twice.

@jamesblond1747No, I think the Force seeks balance, and finds it in the events around the Skywalkers and Sidious. But, in the end, it's not only the force of "the Force" at play, but the force of statistics as well. 1000s of Jedi vs 2 Sith at a time. In the end, Bane's doctrine ensured the survival of the Sith for those 1000 years and ended the infighting, but didn't really bring about dominance. Sidious dominated for a very short time. Furthermore, the Sith were looking for immortality, for very short sighted goals concerning their own short sighted needs. Also, the Force eats away at darksiders. Perhaps, what the Force truly wants, is for forceweilders to exist, but just like predators function as population control to herbivores... the Sith functioned as population control to the Jedi.

@jamesblond1747 The Sith as individuals aren't weak. The Sith as an order, though, are weak in comparison to the Jedi. It does matter how long they ruled. Their way of doing things may have had an impact during those 30 years, but it's a drop in the ocean compared to before and after. And in the end, it was infighting that destroyed them yet again. Vader killed Sidious. Sidious' own granddaughter killed him the second time. Kylo Ren turned against Sidious. And order of one, as Plagueis and Sidious wanted to achieve, is not an order. It's just one person, passing on nothing.

Instead, he became a broken errand boy, who killed Sidious only when he returned to the light... and died in the process himself. Anakin was incapable of continuing the line, as had been continued from Bane to Sidious. And the line was broken.

In Canon Maul had more potential then Dooku, Talzin And possibly Sidious only BEFORE HIS FAILURE ON NABOO even without Anakin or someone like him in the picture Sidious would not take Maul back after that unless he was his only option left I could see him still choosing Maul over Ventress And Oppress after that but not over Dooku unless Dooku should fail in a embarrassing way too yeah.

In Legends EU based on most claims it was lower then all of them Dooku in that version actually had a force potential equal to Yodas there was even a claim stating he was a unique case among the jedi order universally respected would of been a Jedi Master equal to Yoda had he not left the order to join its biggest rivals plus it also adds of Yodas claim of Dookus force natural connection being enigmatic even for him being the main reason he went out of retirment to train Dooku mostly himself which is very rare for the great Grandmaster to do yeah.

He clearly meant pre crippled Maul had more potential then Dooku which is why he was a loss and Dooku was a proton torpedo there are various other Canon sources that support that Maul had higher force potential, IQ, EQ, and most other things then Dooku did before Obi Wan slashed him up yeah.

Legends was a whole other story including this article 1. In this Legends source he says Maul was a weapon a very loyal one but never meant to be anything more he thought this about Maul way before meeting Dooku, Anakin or any others he clearly saw Maul as higher potentialed the force then Ventress, Quinlan Vos, Sora Bulq, Kumari Vosa, Sifo Dyas, And Qui Gon as well as Obi Wan before Maul got bested on Naboo alive or otherwise but he also clearly saw more potential in Dooku in the force as shown in this Legends novel compared to Maul and those others mentioned Plagueis did too by the way Maul may of dreamed to be the person slaughtering the jedi temple but he was not meant to be neither was Dooku only Sidious, Galen Merek, The Skywalkers, And The Solos Under Leias Vessels bad that potential according to Sidious here but Dooku did have the potential to lead the CIS And Start The Clone Wars while Maul did not not even in IQ Or EQ do not mistake Legends Maul for Canon Maul pre beating yeah. 2. Another Legends book called Darth Plagueis Sidious thought in his mind if Maul could be anything more then a top tier assassin but quickly dismissed those thoughts plus when murdering Plagueis he kept calling Maul his assassin showing his thoughts being consistent with his words and had The Fallen Jedi Dooku in mind and said out loud as part of his plans even before Maul failed the mission. And a Palpatine that got even faf more powerful from taking out Plagueis thought within his skull that he felt much more powerful then he did before said how he had to be careful around Dooku who was still a Jedi at the time of close enough because he sensed Dooku was indeed strong in the force and could be luring him out to kill him and this is his thoughts during the time after he got way more powered up from taking out Hego Demask so Dooku at that point was most likely equal in power to him while before Palps got a power charger he noted that he was equal in power to Plagueis referring to himself in third person while he kept calling Maul his or there assassin and intermediary so that shows before that Jedi Master Dooku currently was far more powerful then Pre Boosted Sidious And Plagueis who were both the former pre boosted more powerful then TPM Maul in the force currently and potential wise since Plagueis saw Palpatine And Dooku as apprentice worthy for himself while never seeing that in Maul, Sifo Dyas, Nor Qui Gon so clearly according to Plagueis, Dooku, And Sidious they all had higher potency then Maul and the others, 3. Another Legends hander Sidious inner thoughts says this perhaps he had been looking for other replacements for his previous apprentice The Savage Darth Maul who had in reality been nothing more then a minion like Asajj Ventress And General Grievous while he recognized in the Jedi Dooku the makings of a true accomplice(higher force potential then a minion or top tier assassin) a equal from the other camp(Jedi Order) trained in the jedi arts(force powers) a master duelist(lightsaber combat), and a political visionary(Political Acuman) and this is the same Palpatine that got way more powerful after offing his old master and or teacher thinking this in his mind too. 4. In a Legends Magazine called Star Wars Insider 109 Darth Maul Vs Count Dooku it said how Yoda took such a keen interest in training Dooku one on one because of his high strength in the force while that same equivalent was not made why Sidious took Maul as his first apprentice(In reality top tier assassin minion) and it said once Maul got defeated he QUICKLY replaced Maul with Dooku so clearly even if Maul did not fail living or no he planned on having Dooku as a apprentice over Maul while Maul would serve in a position higher then Asajj And Grievous combined it was clear Dooku was meant to have a higher rank then Maul not just for his higher force potential, and current power levels even by The Phabtom Menace Melennium but also for having a much higher IQ, EQ, Political Acuman, Governmental Know How, Business Sense, Wealth, Resources, Title, Influence, Activism, Moderately Superior standard weapon mastery over the curved hilt in comparison to Mauls with a saber staff double blader, slightly superior lightsaber skills it was said in that section and many others that Dooku even as a Jedi in that era was on par with Yoda And Mace as a swordsperson so would also put him on the same level as Palpatine And Plagueis while Maul at the time was tied with Plo Koon with blade work which is a little above Qui Gon and moderately higher then Obi Wan at that point in raw sword ability for one on one fights. All TPM Maul had over TPM Jedi Master Dooku was physical abilities a fine chunker, hand to hand combat true mastery of various unarmed disciplines, and Non lightsaber weapons expertise with blasters, spears, staffs, etc and a more intimidating appearance yeah. 5. In Yoda Dark Rendouvouz Yoda said that Jedi Master Dooku was the orders strongest student, most learned in the ways of the force, and the orders greatest student and greatest failure the latter because he left the order Yoda said this to the faces of the entire council there in the late Clone Wars including Mace and none had any looks nor says of disagreement not even one of them Dooku was so high potentialed in the force and current powers even as a Jedi that he was compared to Yoda And Anakin and being behind only to both of them and only A TINY BIT HIGHER THEN WINDU so not knocking Mace but according to Yoda he clearly saw Dooku with the third highest force strength potency naturally after himself and Anakin during those times yeah. 6. Another Legends read said that Dooku would of been a Jedi on the council on the same level as Yoda had he not left the order there was that and a few others that said that so Dookus while not saying that about Mace, Plo Koon, Or Yaddle who are people Yoda also has great respect for yeah. 7. Another reader says that as a child Dookus strength in the force was enigmatic even for Yoda to comprehend that says that Dookus potency was either not far off from Yodas own or equal to Yodas but certainly not higher as only Anakin had a higher one then the Grandmaster so that would place Dooku a little above Mace force potential wise since despite Mace also coming to the order at a younger age then Anakin just like Dooku did he did not show that same fascination and a little fear enough to come out of retirement just to train him like he did Dooku who again also was taken to the order at a younger age then The Chosen One yeah. 8. This is reaffirmed again in various Yoda And Dooku quotes of memories and thoughts and comments as well as speakings in terms of Dooku as a child before having any training at seven years old or younger was able to teleketically lift a plant pot that was with a total mass and many hundreds of pounds with no effort for reference most students in practice at that age or those ages had lots of trouble lifting leafs which are many times lighter yeah. 9. More quotes from Yoda And Dooku in Legends show that Dooku as a NINE YEAR OLD was already top tier at force combat against other force wielders one on one based on telekenesis, force shields, force barriers, force reflexes, force senses, force pressure points, and force balancing based off keeping your individual force defenses up and breaking through others he was winning force fight tournements at that age in The Twelve And Under Tournement beyond easily against ages older, same age, and younger then himself same with the push feather championship which is a similar force combat sparring and arm wrestling he was so powerful and gifted even at that age that he was the only contender Yoda did not go easy on which says ALOT since Dooku grew even better and more powerful as he grew older yeah. 10. There was another source in Legends were Sidious laid his mind about his three apprentices Maul, Dooku, And Vader saying Maul was his weapon of vengeance a tool to strike fear against the jedi a genuine loss yet expendable, Dooku powerful and charmed he was necessary for the Clone Wars and the CIS movement but ultimately was a stepping stone for his rise to greater power, Vader strong and had so much potential but was robbed by Obi Wan yet still his greatest creation and greatest weapon and greatest lost in potential. So again clearly showing Maul was the least valued of three apprentices overall aside from few spots yeah. 11. Another one where Sidious said after Maul he gained a more powerful apprentice in Dooku and after Dooku a more powerful one in Vader even after the latter got injured yeah. 12. Not to mention it is even better that Dooku is the one as a Jedi who told Sidious about The Chosen One To Begin with in Legends sparking Sidious interest in Anakin in the first place and even more impressive he found this out without being part of the council yeah.

He thought the rule of two had culminated to produce Palpatine and once their Empire arose the rule of two wouldn't have a need anymore. He wanted to spare Obi Wan and some of the Jedi to act as dark side enforcers for the empire. Also you could argue whether he was planning to take out Palpatine with his own apprentices, or with Obi Wan on Geonosis but realistically he wasn't strong enough to beat him on his own so he just had to wait.

In Dookus defense In Legends he was Yodas prized pupil mainly because he was noted by Yoda himself to have near equal potential or equal potential to himself but not higher hence why Yoda went out of retirement to train a right age for Jedi training Dooku so according to many Legends sources he had a slightly higher potential then Mace and one more massive then Mauls since Maul in Legends was not of Talzins bloodline like his Canon Self instead he was the offspring of either a lesser force user/magic user from Irodonia in the original origin in Legends which Maul still had a high potential one high enough to be more valued then Asajj Ventress who herself was far from average in potential even if not near Mauls, on Mauls, or above Mauls it was clearly higher then Sifo Dyas, Qui Gon, Obi Wan, and more but Maul according to Yoda, Dooku, Sidious, Plagueis and more had more potential force wise then Maul did based off most implicators or implications the problem was that Dooku lacked the long lifespan that Plagueis And Yoda did even if his potential was much higher then Mauls IN MOST LEGENDS STATEMENTS AND IMPLIERS but then again I am sure Sidious planned to probably make younger clones of Dooku or even himself for that matter if there was no Skywalkers, Leia Produced Solos, Or Mereks around yeah. In the Legends Retcon Maul was the son of a lesser force/magic user nightsister named Kycina according to The Plagueis Novel and another late Legends plate so still that was a Maul with lesser potential then Abeloth, Force Deities, Talzin, Plagueis, Dooku, Palpatine, The Mereks, The Solos Under Leias Veins, The Skywalkers, Mace, Yoda, And Malgus but a higher one to different degrees then Asajj Ventress, Quinlan Vos, Varfe Koko, Sora Bulq, Komari Vosa, Aayla Secura, Obi Wan, Qui Gon, Sifo Dyas. Plo Koon, Yaddle, Ki Adi Mundi, Shaak Ti, Kit Fisto, Sensee Tin, Agen Kolar, Coleman Trevor, Traya, Revan, Vitiate, Tenebrae, Grievous, Durge, And many more so yeah.
