Nathaniel Hawthorne is the direct descendent of “the hanging judge,” John Hathorne, his great-great grandfather, the presiding judge of the Salem witch trials who sentenced these innocent villagers to their deaths by hanging. Nathaniel changed his surname from Hathorne to Hawthorne bc of the shame associated with the Salem witch trials and the consequential role his great-great grandfather played in the unjust sentencing and deaths of the accused villagers. His family name is forever tainted.

This video seems to have quite a Catholic lean to it. There's nothing wrong with going straight to God with your confessions. Not having a priest to confess to for absolution doesn't leave you with no outlet unless you don't believe God exists.

To have to go thru a priest to confess your sins is just fear and control...
@JohnDoe-xl1igАй бұрын
@@debra91 You sound like a Puritan. Catholics are much more than that and yes regular members pray to Father and the Son for forgiveness, all Catholics believe Jesus Christ died on cross so they can be forgiven by just asking. Confession is conversing with an ordained priest so they can give guidance on what you need to correct and thus do better in the future... it's also act of humbling yourself before the church and God. Saying it out loud to another person helps you realize what you've done, and the other person helps you move past it. If you're so guilty you can't speak your sins aloud, you may never move past them or even understand how. The church nor members of your church can help you if you keep secrets.
