I put one of these covers on my F-150 last summer, and it's held-up great. Excellent choice! I came there to see how the Rhino Rack went on, and it appears to be a better solution than the Thule Podium kit, which is getting hard to find, anyway. Looks like I'll be snagging an RR set for our bike carriers! Thanks.

To add, it is possible to remove the Rhino Rack with the 5 bike racks as one whole unit when the rack is not needed. This is wonderful as it would have been a pain to disassemble the rack every time I wanted to remove it.

Waiting on my own XR right now. Much less annoyed about how long its taking to arrive now that I saw how long you waited for yours. I'm at 5 weeks wait as of today and they claim to be shipping mine at the end of the week. We'll see. Excited to get it installed on my Ram 2500, would've been perfect for my last 2 camping trips and a long road trip I just took as well. Great video, so nice to see the kids involved and learning. Not a lot of kids showing interest in doing mechanical work nowadays. If you don't have Gate Seal rubber stripping on the tailgate already then you should look into that for a future video. Will limit dust and dirt from getting in the bed when the cover is closed.
@BuckleUpButtercupTV3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback. Ours was only supposed to take 5 weeks, and be here on time before our camping trip (it wasn't) hopefully yours will come at the end of the week like they say. Waiting is no fun! We will look into the gate seal rubber stripping.

How to you connect the rhino rack to the rail grove Is the grove on the truck or on the retractable cover?
@BuckleUpButtercupTV3 жыл бұрын
The groove is on the rails that come with the Retrax Pro XR. It is compatible with any "T Slot" roof rack style system. There are also larger racks that are can height that will work with the Retrax, overall it is an amazing addition to the truck, especially when we need to haul 5 bikes. Also, it is worth noting after this quick install this thing has been 99.7% water tight.

How do you connect the rhino bars to the truck. Is this connection to the truck or to the roll up cover? Sorry if this is duplicated. My first comment didn’t show up

The rails of the Retrax XR have a T Slot that fits many roof rack systems. They slide right into the rails.

Most people have been waiting several weeks of not months to receive their orders from other sellers. Amazon seems to have stock available to ship now which is great.

Thank you! We really like it! We have traveled over 6k miles with it and it has held up and kept our stuff dry. The bike racks did great, even while we went off road on rough terrain, everything stayed in it's place.

Thanks! We are loving the Retrax tonneau cover. We flew through the install and expected to need to go back over time to make adjustments or fine tuning however that hasn't been the case. We have been through some very heavy rain and our gear has stayed completely dry. I have also stepped on it a few times and it doesn't budge or flex. We are very happy with it's durability, ease of use and security.

Ok great! Thank you! Have you done any modifications to your computer through forScan to make the fog lights work with the high beams on?
@BuckleUpButtercupTV3 жыл бұрын
Not yet, I have thought about it but I am not sure it would make a difference. These LED headlights are super bright. The high beams seem to be enough to light up a ballfield. I am interested in enabling the sideview mirror spotlights at any speed. They could be helpful on dark trails at night.

@BuckleUpButtercupTV3 жыл бұрын
After a quick look at the bed extender I do not see any reason why it wouldn't be compatible. The Retrax clamps to the upper bed side rail so it is up and out of the way.

Doing an almost identical install on my Rebel... when all the parts come in 😬 How do you find mounting the bikes?
@BuckleUpButtercupTV3 жыл бұрын
Very cool! I hope your parts arrive soon. It seems the supply chain is rather delayed right now. I find mounting the bikes to be rather easy, I start with the middle bike while standing in the bed and work my way out. The outer bikes can be mounted from the side of the truck.

No, unfortunately it doesn’t fit height or length. It is within an inch of fitting the height and a foot too long to fit length. Florida garages are small.

Nice video. I just swapped my regular rails for the XR rails. Did you notice a large difference in the distance between rails from the front to the back? Mine opens and closes nicely but I got more than a 1/4" difference from the front to the back. Retrax says it shouldn't be more than 1/16" difference. Just curious if you had to adjust those nylon screws at all.
@BuckleUpButtercupTV3 жыл бұрын
We got rather lucky, the install that we did in this video turned out nearly exactly square. I did not have to dial it in afterwards as I expected. So far we are 99.5% water proof even in some crazy downpours. If yours opens and closes smoothly and is keeping rain out you may be okay. I will measure mine again tomorrow to see if anything has changed after 12,000 miles.

That's the only issue I see with roll-up tonneaus, but they're otherwise one of the best form factors. I've found that I can still get at least a couple sheets of plywood under it (and the drain tubes), and even more long material if you place it between where the tubes are and secure it.

Thank you for a very informative video. Is there a gasket or seal where the cover meets the tailgate to prevent rain, snow, dust, etc. from entering the box? Thanks.
@BuckleUpButtercupTV3 жыл бұрын
Yes, there is a seal along the last section of the top that seals nicely against the top of the tailgate. I put stuff in my bed with confidence that it will stay dry.

I have 4 kids. Do you think have 6 in the truck would be uncomfortable?
@BuckleUpButtercupTV3 жыл бұрын
It would probably depend on the age of your children, if they are younger it may work out fine. I am not able to provide feedback on how comfortable the middle jump seat is for long trips, that would probably be my biggest concern as we spend 12-14 hours in the truck per day when driving to our destinations.

The truck spent two days at Ford. From my short conversation with the Tech it seemed they spent a long time on the phone with Ford and found the issue to be a short within a control module. We picked the truck up afterhours so we could have it for our weekend trip so I do not have the warranty paperwork yet to confirm the name of the module that was replaced. We plan on posting an update video once we know exactly what Ford replaced.
