I had the Retrax XR and it warped when the temperatures were below freezing. This made it seize up and not able to close unless I manually pushed down on the middle of the cover. When the temps went back up to around 40 during the day, it worked as expected. There was no permanent damage but it was a PITA to have to find the right spot to push down on so that it would retract. I’m hoping the Pro doesn’t have the same problem because I like to lock at any position and the tracks for rails.

@GReviewz2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I’m glad I was able to help you make an educated decision. Yes that is still a downfall for me it does take up space.. as far as durability goes the cover is hard to beat. It still is about 95% water tight, little drips get in heat and there. As far as storage goes it is expandable with a rack being installed on top.. also price is steep however if you buy a cheaper one and it fails in a year or so you will end up buying the better one anyway!
@andrewp55643 жыл бұрын
@greviews, I’ll looking at this for my 2021 F150 short bed (~5.5 ft). Given the space it takes up would you recommend RollnLock or still this? RollnLock takes up 7 inches of length and of course it’s less deep as well. I’m not a laborer or typically hailing much though. Second question- on security, this one looks good as it appears to be able to take more top down weight vs a RollnLock (and we’ll keep Diamondback, Renegade out of this). Not sure whether that actually matters but seems to indicate it could be tougher to pry on the edges? Have you seen anything about the actual toughness of the lock itself? Couldn’t that just be punched through on any of these? Last question- do you know if w/ the RollnLock you can install a rack of some sort? Sounded like you indicated no. Have the install planned Fri for the Retrax but just ensuring it’s actually the correct decision- for me. Also recognizing that in comparison, Retrax on this specific product SKU offers a lifetime warranty vs the respective all aluminum RollnLock which is 3 yrs according to their site. Price difference is a wash long term. Btw- excellent review in my opinion. Comprehensive.
@GReviewz3 жыл бұрын
Hey Andrew.thanks for watching. You have a very in dept question and I will do my best to answer it. First to answer the space question that is my only gripe about this unit. It does take up a decent amount of room. Granted you can still store item under the canister on both units. The different between the two is small as far as the canister size. This is one reason I purchased a 3/4 ton truck to get the longer standard bed. As you saw in the video I was able to stand on the unit. It is very secure however there isn’t a tonneau on the market that is theft proof. This unit is however very strong and I feel like they would have to pry for some time to get into this tonneau. Another reason I got this unit was for the side rails I plan on putting a rack on mine in the future whereas the roll lock I don’t believe has that option. Yeah I love the lifetime warranty and thank you for you positive feedback!!

NICE VID. I'm also looking at tonneau covers right now specifically that are compatible for bed racks (camping and all that). My search so far seem to lead to not many covers are compatible with bed racks, or at least if they are they don't seem too sturdy. Was that something you also encountered when you were looking at the other covers? I've been looking at those too. But sick cover for sure.

@@GReviewz 2002 Dodge Ram 1500. But I am at the moment considering maybe changing it for ranger just because is way more fuel eficiente than my old truck.
@GReviewz3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the ford rangers are nice trucks. I hope your towing/storage needs don’t change anytime soon there beds are tiny and they can’t tow a whole lot. But they def are fuel efficient. Have you looked at the big 3, 1/2 ton diesel trucks. They get better mpg than ranger and are bigger size!

What are your thoughts on the pro xr vs one xr? Thanks!
@GReviewz3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I was really close to getting the one xr.. the price is much better than the pro. When I got down to the dealer in the beginning of the review they had examples of the units set up. The owner was there and showed me the two units. He said go ahead mess with the displays. I tried them out. The one is literally plastic planking. I didn’t feel the plastic would last very long. He also told me they never have any problems out of the pro and have more warranty issues from the one than the pro.. I said the heck with it I’d rather have something I know will last along time than something I’ll ha e to replace down the road. What kind of truck do you have?
@thomasselter25073 жыл бұрын
@@GReviewz thanks for the insight! I have a 2017 short bed f150. I plan on having the truck a good few years. It would be consoling to know that it would fit/transfer to my next truck (whenever that is). Not a deal breaker, but with the pro being 2 grand I would be much more inclined to purchase if it did. Of course you can't tell the future, but do you know if these covers are fairly standard (with appropriate bed size) or if there many different models for each truck? I know that's asking a lot, but you seem very knowledgeable so I figured I'd ask.
@GReviewz3 жыл бұрын
If you have the f150 short box you know that your bed starting out is one of the shortest boxes you can get on the market. Keep in mind the canister takes up some space as well. For example my ram has a 6.5ft bed. It shares the bed with the 3500 standard bed and the 1500 long bed.. so I can transfer to a couple different truck if I wanted to. But gm, ford, ram Toyota etc do not have any bed covers that will transfer to each other. Your f150 bed is not shared with any other truck except the f150. So if one day you got an f250 it would not transfer to that truck..I hope that makes sense..
@thomasselter25073 жыл бұрын
@@GReviewz yeah it's definitely short, but not a problem for what I need, especially with the Yakima rack. But yes, that makes sense. Thanks for your help!

@MastaSquidge3 жыл бұрын
Damn. Way too much front space lost for a short bed on a crew cab these days.
@GReviewz3 жыл бұрын
It does take up some room. You still get all the room under the canister plus it’s pretty dang water right and really secure. On top of that you have accessory rails along the bed side to round racks etc for tons more storage..

I don’t know if it helps to mention I have a 2500 so the bed is the 6’4” box which is much better than having the short 5’6” box with this canister in it as well.

How does this one beat out the Peragon unit ?
@GReviewz2 жыл бұрын
The paragon unit is a good unit. The problem I find with it and my neighbor will agree (he has one) is that when you have items in your bed naturally they will slide to the front on the bed. Well the paragon unit requires you to push the link in last two folding panels closest to the cab inward. In doing this most of the time something is in the way. Which means then you have to go crawl into the bed under the tonneau to move the item. I hope that makes sense.

@@GReviewz Hauling lumber and bulk materials I would not be willing to give up 13 inches of bed space and I feel like I would break off the drain hoses if I even tried. The old one I am looking to replace is a quad fold and if I want to take it off while I’m out, it is thin enough, about 5” when folded to place longitudinally in the bed. Although no one who has reviewed the retractable covers mentions removing it I can imagine it’s somewhat inconvenient. This cover definitely has a lot of advantages Though.
@GReviewz3 жыл бұрын
Yes there isn’t a perfect tonneau there just isn’t for everyone’s needs... I steered away from the folding types because for there cost around 1k plus a lot of guys were saying they fall apart or leak within a couple years... yes they are easy to take off but if they don’t last and leak for me not worth it. My tonneau can be taken off but it’s something that has to be done with two people... undo 4 bed clamps and remove 2 drain tubes and take it off...

Or hybrids like prius or Corolla even not the camry because they are not into large sedans. And allot of crossovers like the vw tiguan size

Here have charging points in almost every street. And fast chargers everywhere next to the highways. The only thing that’s mot great is that allot of houses in the west of holland don’t have their own driveway or own parking spot or garage. Because there is just no space. Almost every house is attached with small front yards and a parking place at the end of the street. And there you can find a charging point for 2 cars. Costs is €5,50 per 100 km in town or city. And €9,75 per 100 on highway for electric. So you can’t use your own power of your house.. but a tesla or any electric vehicle is unaffordable for most of the average people anyway..
