It's crazy that any company would copywrite anyone who is using a product of theirs which they no longer make money from, and are completely unharmed by even one cent. You know all us old people playing retro games have absolutely bought every game back in the day, anyhow. What kind of loss can somebody sue for if they aren't making any money in the first place?

Hi JC; I am not a gamer but have played a few in the old days like you. The thing is, not just games but DVD, BLU-Ray content etc are disappearing because the companies do not want you to own anything. They want continual payments every time you watch a movie, play a game or use software (Adobe comes to mind). I will never do that. If I can't buy and use the software I want, I'll find something else (open source where possible) or I simply say NO. I am retired so I understand it's easier for me to say that than for someone who has to use specific software to make a living. I feel I was fortunate to grow up at a time where you owned something (games etc). Same can be said (as you have done so) with Windows vs Linux situation. Unfortunately there is only 1 solution that I can suggest but it does not work for everyone. That is DON'T BUY INTO IT. If you can use something else, do so. Don't sign up for all these streaming services. The only thing they will listen to is a drastic loss of subscribers. If they lose millions in income, so be it, they brought it on themselves. Well that's my rant thanks to all who listened. Regards to all. 🇨🇦

My favorite platform is the GameCube. It was small, simple, and it worked without internet connections. When I worked at a game development company, I have every game platform on the market. The world of crashes was owned by Microsoft! The problem is big companies and their ability to destroy a fan! Rather than partner with the fan and help them stay clear of copyright issues, they try to bankrupt the fan, creating a huge group of haters. This is a sign of no leadership at Nintendo. I know someone that works for Nintendo, so I could be scolded for this, but it needs to be said. Leadership will help fans and influencers, not destroy them!
@jcristina2 ай бұрын
Exactly!!! Could not of stated it better. They should through this guy $$$$ as he is advertising their shit. When you download an old game and play it and like it. You would be more likely to purchase that companies newest game.
@WarlordMoA2 ай бұрын
You are right to a degree but the problem here is that is underlying problems is DMCA and Intellectual Property Rights laws that only helps and serves the creator of the content and there needs to be a Streamers (rebroadcast) Law instead of hammering on individuality or a theory of privacy as an argument. Just a thought.
@WarlordMoA2 ай бұрын
Creator and content and Licensing which is a rent once you buy the product you are still renting the product from the company that distributed the product, frankly there needs to a a Streamers Ownership Right To Rebroadcast law, that helps the individual and also the industry, for example if you are a Warner Bros fan with DC merch behind you on the table the company will issue a dmca strike to your KZbin account and you will have to bear the burden of the strike.
@WarlordMoA2 ай бұрын
Mind you we live in a highly competitive world and environment that is dominated based on IP ownership, it means the individual that is partaking of this licence does not have the right to own the product perse, but now with the age of the internet the companies and the government need to get there arses together find a solution rather create more problems.

This is definitely a concerning topic to me because well, if you take just one look at the content I upload, you'll see why. 😅 I have a small mini PC that I have Fedora Linux on and I use that as my little gaming machine. I don't care about decking it out with super fancy, high quality graphics. I just like to play games! I'm a huge Zelda nerd, for one. So I'm trying to play as many Zelda games as I possibly can. But it's nice to be able to have one single device that can play a bunch of different games, rather than me having to fight with my classic consoles and hooking up what I want to use and storing away what I don't want to use. What I think Nintendo should honestly do...is just put actual ROMs themselves behind a paywall of some sort so you could buy them as you want to use them. I'm not saying virtual console and whatnot, no...actual ROMs that you can play with an emulator on your computer. But what are they doing? They have virtual stores where they all of a sudden decide to pull the plug on it because the system is aging. My latest console is an original Wii. There is no longer a Wii store as they shut it down. That's grade A bullshit. I understand that they want to sell consoles as well, but that's not the entire basis of what their customers want. This is kind of the issue of having systems and games all made by the same company/licensed. But I'd be willing to buy retro games in that sort of sense. I don't know how they'd exactly implement it to prevent illegal distribution, but that's not my problem to figure out. All I'm saying though is that's what I'd be willing to do if they actually did such a thing.
@jcristina2 ай бұрын
Digital Copies that are on a network is a problem as the network could close and you would no longer be able to access your games. Steam is a good example. What would happen if Steam shut down tomorrow.
@TommyViper2 ай бұрын
@@jcristina And you're absolutely right about that. Which is kind of what I was saying about your consoles. What happens if your console goes boom? You bought those games but now you can't get them back because the shop has closed down. But Steam as you said really is just as much of an issue, because there's no guarantee it'll be there tomorrow. "You'll own nothing and be happy!" With cartridges, at least almost the only real problem they had was the save function using a battery which does deplete after a while. But they were a heck of a lot more robust than disks.

Here in Canada, you can have a video 'demonetized' if the audio is copywritten, such as your case. To avoid this, you need to be able to prove your video was shot in or is a sanctioned copy of the VENUE having a license to play that audio or YOU need to have a personal/corporate license to play that audio. If you shoot a wedding in a venue and decide to upload video of any dancing to music, you either must posess a license similar to a DJ or a radio station (almost like a fee to pay a portion of monies collected to the original artist) or state that the venue or entertainer has the license and that you had every right to capture and rebroadcast that event. I am sure you could find out if SpaceX had a license to play said 'elevator music', and that you were in your 'fair use' capacity to rebroadcast the event stream, therfore reversing the demonitization of that video. Yah- sucks having to walk on eggshells anytime you record/release audio you recorded because the 'Bots' can pick up on the audio. I had a strike that I fought and won on the fact I recorded a tribute band in a bar playing that bands 'copywritten' material. I was exonerated when I proved the venue had the right (license) to play popular music by any means, be it DJ, jukebox or live band, and that I was in my right to record the performance and share it on social media. Just a matter of time before they recognize video images as well and then you get sued for capturing a vehicle driving past your sceen while doing a video on the street and the driver demands a percentage of your revenue because his vehicle appeared on your show. Fawk!

I believe everything we used to do didn't have any NDA's to the extent that we do today. And we're based on right repair. If you aren't selling it, you should be able to fix it. And even if you're selling it, if you're fixing it to sell it, it becomes a issue only because you need to prove that you're not gonna use it anymore. and that you're selling that right to that piece. but it comes down to. if you're keeping it, there should be no issue with it.

Unfortuntely NIntendo only gets paid when you buy the media for the first time. So they have no interest in letting you play that game forever because they still only got paid once. Hence, they try to take legal action against you playing it forever. That's why most games now are digital only. In my opinion, I think that all the games should have the exact same intellectual expire time that movies and TV shows. I’m a big movie and TV buff and unfortunately Disney decide to screw with the copyright laws which I think should be amended back to the original where they extended those copyrights out to think it’s almost 100 years. I don’t agree with that. I think that video games should be under the exact same law no more than 50 years because you also have to realize that by the time 50 years passes 20 years passes technology will leave those games obsolete except for those of us who do like to play the number once in a while I had still had my 2600 and I would still be playing them Video games should only have a 50 year shelflife as far as being under the company that made them intellectual property after that I think they should be fair use

100%, buying is ownership of that single item to do as you desire including resale of that single item BUT not its copies which is piracy. Same rules should apply to digital downloads IMO, this buying a licence to play crap is just that, crap, as that single digital copy of downloaded code should be yours to do with as you see fit, including resale. Licence Key makes it unique to allow resale, just like having a hardcopy pre cd-key days or a hardcopy with cd-key.
