It's good to see the RPi 3B+ still being used and thanks for the video. The 3B+ was the Raspberry Pi Foundation's peak, after this they lost direction by pandering to self entitled gamers constantly demanding "more power" and just ended up making the device too pricey compared to used Core i5 and i7 PCs that can be picked up online cheaper.

I was gifted Pi3 by a friend few months ago. (My first PI). I have to say, this is a lot of computer in such a small package and it works amazingly well with recallbox (IMHO much better than retropie). I just played with it when I saw this video.

The Raspberry Pi 3B + is an awesome device and it’s still being manufactured by Raspberry Pi precisely because of how many organizations and people are still using it. I have a few of my own and for the right projects it’s more than powerful enough and super reliable. The one thing I really appreciate is the full sized HDMI. It’s so much more durable and stable than micro HDMI. I’ve never used more than one monitor on a raspberry Pi and wish they had stuck with full size HDMI or used the more durable USB C for video out on new Raspberry Pi.

Great Video! My Pi3b+ is still king of da hill in his RetroFlag-Case. In combination with RecalBox it’s a great solution for people without any knowledge of building a specific system. …and yes: Quake III ist undefeated on the 3b+ 😂

I've got one inside RetroFlag's MEGApi case loaded up with Game Gear, Master System, Genesis, Sega CD, and 32X games, and another in their SNESpi case with Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo, Super Nintendo, and Nintendo 64 games. The Raspberry Pi 3B+ is awesome.

It's still quite nice solution for emulators up to like psx and especially if stopping to 16bit systems. It's quite remarkable how well it runs Quake.

I'm using a Pi3B for a Commodore 64 Pi1541. I then re-purposed it for loading NAOMI games on my arcade cab using Wipi Netbooter to netboot games on the NAOMI arcade system controlled using an old mobile phone. So then I bought another Pi3B+ so I could use it for the Pi1541. I have another project to use the Pi3B+ for an arcade jamma setup using a custom PCB that plugs straight into JAMMA arcade cab so I had to pick up another one hehe! At the same time I also picked up a Pi4 just because it came with a nice metal Argon NEO case heh!

It's always nice to look at some old the older stuff as well, thanks! I have a question, the power strip on the right on your desk, which one is it? It looks very nice with the USB power and individual switchable outlets. Thanks!

i have a Pi 3A+ hooked to a CRT via Composite, and it also has the Mame240p Mod which switched games to 240p but menus remain 480i (you HAVE to enable overscan for it) and im playing a lot,. even Quake 2 plays on it in Ports, and i run a fair amount of N64 games using the compatibility list plus a nice amount of Dreamcast as well. I use the Mame 2000 0.37b rom set, and have zero issues. 32X behaves itself, and PS1 runs very well i use DosBox but its configured to run as a Tandy 1000, and quite a few ports.

I've got mine almost like yours. 1 sd card with retropie 1 sd card with recallbox I use retropie for my snes case and an 8bitdo sn30 the other one i use it with my bartop arcade that i made. From your opinion where did you get the best performance overall. How do you share your roms and bios for both? Nice work keep breathing new life to that pi😆

You clearly are very limited in your thinking if your attitude is that always need the "latest and greatest" hardware to solve any computing problem - I suspect you're probably a AAA gamer as they are usually the ones playing "Top Trumps" with their rigs on social media as to who has the highest frame rates, most Ryzen cores or biggest number of 4K monitors in simultaneous use. I believe that's why modern AAA games are so rubbish, by the way, because AAA "games as a service, gamers as whales" are so obsessed with the numbers in the top left corners of the screens that they don't care about game content. And AAA games have been made much easier anyway to keep you playing them and buying the DLC. An engineer does not think that way. An computer engineer looks at the computing problem that needs to be solved and then works out the optimal hardware and software to use to solve that problem - keeping the cost as low as possible will factor into that. And if you understand Linux well and, even better, can build it tailored to the platform you are using (as I do) then you have a huge amount of flexibility in the choice of hardware you can use - especially with gamers like you rushing to upgrade to Windows 11 and dumping their old hardware for sale online that will run on Linux perfectly fine. Congratulations, today is a day where you have probably learned something new about how others do things - off you go then, I'm sure you have a side quest or two to go and do in "Cybersplatt 4044" or "Starfailed".
