Whoever purchases this bike will have an absolute classic. Set up as such, it could go 20 years just like that and only gain in vintage value and collectibility. In the 80's and 90's I worked in a Toronto bike store. This bike would have been considered leading edge. Many of our customers were aesthetically motivated and I'm sure there are similar bikes still proudly owned and ridden in Toronto by somewhat aged cyclists!

Wow. That took me back. This was the very first frame/ bike I ever bought for myself. You’ve inspired me to the point that I’ve bought myself one and in the process of doing the same. You wouldn’t have the colour codes by any chance? My frame has been painted black so don’t have the luxury of matching colour apart from your video. Thanks for doing such a brilliant job on this one. Keep it up. 👏👏👏

Your passion for CLASSIC road and racing bikes is really great. I have the sickness too so I know what it can do to your wallet. I still find this era of bikes the most exciting. Couple years ago I got a 1988 Specialized Allez at a tag sale. I must say one has to marvel and quality of tubing mixed with serviceability, adjustability and overall durability. Some stuff like having a standardized 31.8 (with open face plate on stem) bar stem combo or duel bolt seat posts (like a Thomson), or obliviously the safely of duel control levers vs down tube shifters. A lot of the modern stuff that seen an improvement has just made bike more disposable, temperamental and more costly and this coming from someone who uses most modern stuff (one-by, carbon forks, tubeless, disc-brakes etc)
@BikeItUK4 жыл бұрын
Yes I’ll agree with that, still need to get a retro Specialized on the channel. Thanks for your comment and watching 👍

The show is a great watch and very informative. I had just bought a vintage Raleigh Grand Prix and I’ve narrowed the time of its assembly between 1968-72. There are some conflicting info on the bike to be exact but the main thing I can’t find is a list of the original hardware/parts assembled for those years so I can restore it as close to original as possible. If you have anything that I can use that would be great.

Interesting info on 653 framesets. Reynolds have sent me a helpful reply so don't spend any more time on this one on my account. I'll tell you what they said as it's interesting and other folk might appreciate it too. In essence, 653 was invented following feedback from Eddy Merckx that a pure 753 frame was too harsh for certain stages. So Reynolds produced a 653 tubeset which combined 753 stays with 531 main tubes and forks. Not any old 531 though, but an even thinner gauge than usual - just for use in the 653 set. Eddy and other riders were very pleased with the result, which combined a light, ultra-stiff and efficient transmission with a more forgiving and comfy ride.

I still ride my sante equiped bianchi. I got it from a friend who didnt really ride much many years ago. I used it for commuting for almost 10 years and other general transportation duties(when I didnt have to lock it outside). So it is a real workhorse. I also used it for recreational riding and usually one gran fondo a year. I recently changed the rear derailleur, it just was plain worn out. I put on a shimano 105 red arrow friction derailleur from a bike I bought in my teens but most of the bike is still sante.

As ever, Andy, you produced another veritable work of art. Your specialist bike restorer deserves congratulations, too. It would be interesting to know what the processes are that he uses, although they might be secrets, of course. Anyway, congratulations to him, too. Just as an aside: As the owner of a lowly 1978 Raleigh Grand Prix, I find that she has barely any rust although I think she has not been exposed to Lancashire rain, etc. She does have chromed forks (and chromed Sturmey-Archer wheel rims, come to think of it!). My Grand Prix might not win a Miss Bike Universe competition but I still love her :-).

Thanks again Roy, for the support that you give. My one true love is the bike that kicked the channel off, my Raleigh Corsa in Team colours. That is the only one I’ve never been able to part with. it’s definitely a childhood thing with my Raleigh and similar it’s not an expensive bike. I’ll have to keep my eye open for a Raleigh Grand Prix 😉🚲 thanks again until the next one all the best

Love the classics, Raleigh, Paramount, Colnago or just about anything Italian meant you were serious.

One of your best, if not the best resto's yet. I am intrigued though as to why on the underside of the bottom bracket underneath the cable guides one can clearly see 'Cinelli'... Any ideas Andy?

Hi, thanks for watching and the support. As far as I am aware the higher end frames from Raleigh used Cinelli cups on the frames.

Fantastic !! You (and the frame restorer) have done an excellent job here. As I have mentioned before on your channel, I have a 1989 Raleigh Record Ace, which is 653, in the same met. white as your Race and with full Santé. It's in reasonably good condition but not perfect. I _may_ go down this route that you have done. What IS a pain is getting a Shimano Santé, or similar, Uniglide block as Uniglide was only about for a few years before it went to Hyperglide.

Thanks for watching and your comment, I jump at the chance of the matching wheelset, helped out a lot. Thanks again and all the best.

Must be the nicest bike I've seen on your channel. But you must have spent a fortune on this one. I want to buy it.

It’s up for sale on our website and eBay, and yes we broke the bank on this one. Worth it I feel though. Top level Raleigh restored to A1 condition for many more years to enjoy 👍 thanks for watching and the support
