Hi Gav the DM has Turned out great and I like the window edges, it’s a nice responsive buggy and that’s impart to its short wheelbase , the Genova can be driven a bit harder with its more stable longer wheelbase. Again all depends on driver standard and application of use but there’s not a lot in it between the two. There will be very few places that allow the dirt master to run in a vintage class. Vintage rules are usually based around the iconic rc revival rules and 2wd buggy’s are to be no younger than 1998. Sone clubs are starting to run rear motor events so will be fine for that. RB5’s are from 2007 almost 10 years after the cut off date for vintage. Top stuff ;)
@AndyMoulton Жыл бұрын
Andy, do you know why 1998 was chosen?
@andyrobinsonrc2480 Жыл бұрын
Generally after 1998 you had buggy’s not including the factory team rc10b3 coming out that were a bigger step in performance over the previous generations, Losi xxxcr , rc10b4 etc so to my knowledge a cut off year was established and 1998 seems to be that year. It’s also why I think clubs are doing rear motor classes now as post 98 cars are to old for modern buggy racing generally but not old enough for vintage so it leaves a lot of cool race cars out that people may still have .

I have to say I can’t agree on the Genova being better looking (subjectively of course), but to me the Dirt Master is more elegant looking, and that is in part due the the lower placed and more attractive designed rear wing. I’d buy a dirt master, but when talking price point it’s hard to not compare the Tamiya Sand Viper, fairly similar but fully £70 less and supplied with Esc and bearings. For racers the comparison probably isn’t there, but for garden runners I’d say it is. On your car, painting mishaps haven’t stopped it looking tip top mate, I’d be happy to get it that good (which I wouldn’t!). Interesting to see some of the slightly haphazard alignments between parts.

I’m currently building Genova as I type this and I must say I’m so impressed with the quality of Genova. I’ve built probably two dozens of RC cars and this one was a nice surprise. Good to see that you gave a slightly higher score on Genova (because I decided to go with Genova before seeing this video. ). Thanks for the comparison!

I don't think many realise just how good this entry buggy is from a quality point of view. In Japan it sells for £155 and you get great plastics and the fit and finish are well above what you would expect at that price point. Everyone that gets to see one in real life, always comments on the quality. Why G-Force don't sell this outside Japan, I will never know.

I was a bit disappointed when the Dirt Master was announced as I'd just bought the Genova but I'm now really happy with my choice. I really like the quality of the Genova kit, that it comes with full bull race bearings, and the fit is great, the manual was easy to eead despite being mainly in Japanese. I've also ended up buying most of the shiny upgrades (which aren't cheap but seem very good quality) and a few spares as well. Even from Japan delivery is typically about a week. I'd like to get a Kyosho at some point but now I have the Genova I don't think I'll bother with a Dirt Master.

The Genova is a solid purchase for sure. I keep my fingers crossed we will see it outside Japan soon.

Hi Gavin, I’m down with the dirtmaster on this one, it’s my first Kyosho kit since the 80’s, there’s just something about it, and it’s flat looking rather than the rear wing being about a foot in the air. Great video😀

I went Dirt Master as it is simply easier to obtain and get replacement parts. I was also looking for vintage styling, and for me, Kyosho checked that box. I actually like the wing on the DM. It gives it a streamlined, fast look. Only negative is the faff of a manual, some really poor instructions in some areas.

This is definitely a better base for racing than a vintage Schumacher - geometry is very similar to the RC10B4 and TRF201. Lots of RB5/6/7 bits fit the DirtMaster as well (like the brass front bulkhead from the RB6)

Cool vid as always. Just a heads up, the RB5, and by implication the Dirt Master post date the Associated B4. In fact it could be argued that the RB5 was somewhat a response to the B4, being a kind of re-designe RB-TypeR. My point though is that the B4 might only just be raced in vintage now, and most probably in it's own class. That would make it unlikely for the RB5 or a buggy based on that being used in vintage racing. Having said all that, I could well be wrong on all counts.

No I think it’s too new to run in most vintage races, especially the Iconic cup

i wonder if the hobbywing 1060 and some retro motor are good enough for the dirt master. i have bought legendary series kyosho buggies such as ultima, turbo scorpion and optima mid. for the 2wd legendaries,i am going to install the retro brushed motors from holme's hobby and will install 10.5t brushless motor with 120a hobbywing in the optima mid. please let me know your thoughts.

My Dirt Master build is next. I tried my Kyosho Tomahawk with a 13.5T brushless and it was crazy overpowered, couldn't keep the front wheels on the ground. I moved it to a brushed 27T and the 13.5T Justock will go in the Dirt Master.... 😊

If I had to choose one it would be the Tamiya TD2 Astute 2022. Same price, more fun to build, parts availability no problem. ;-)

Yep the TD2 is a little bit more but the plastics are lovely. Not sure around a track if it will keep up with these two and as for the looks, well... I can say that as I have build one, sold one and I still have a NIB one lol.
@andyrobinsonrc2480 Жыл бұрын
The TD2 is a better race buggy than the Genova and Dirt master it’s a modern designed buggy mid motored etc I’ve raced and beaten equivalent buggy’s from the other manufacturers. The DM and the Genova Wernt built to compete and Race against modern equipment
@richardjohnston2217 Жыл бұрын
The td2 needs way to much money spending on it to race it. I raced mine and broke both rear hubs. To fragile. I love its design but its not a true racer or a basher.

@alphawlff Жыл бұрын
The DT03 has limited gearing options. You can only use a 17 or 19 tooth pinion with it. With the Genova and Dirt Master you can change the spur gear. And they have more pinion gear options depending on the size of the spur gear.
