Memories of old sports games from the 2nd, 3rd and 4th gen video games! Growing up with older brothers, you might get pushed around a little, and my older brother constantly forced sports games on me, and eventually the brain washing worked - I ended up being an avid sports gamer in the 80s and 90s, and while I'm not a big sports gamer these days, over the 2019 holidays I thought back to all the sports games I played over the years, specifically football games, which was mainly because my brother forced them on me, beginning with the Mattel Football handhelds, and the old 1978 Atari Football game.
Sure, Atari Football is often ridiculed, but in 1978, it was pretty impressive, and even a bit fun, and was a game I played a lot. Sure much better Football games came along later, but in 1978, we were still in the early days of Atari and 2nd gen games.
And in the video I reflect on Game Boy NFL Football, and even the arcade classic, John Elway Team Quarterback, one of the greatest physical controls and passing system in all of Football games. And who could forget the NES classic Tecmo Bowl? Any 80s sports gamer played plenty of Tecmo Bowl.
And in the 16-bit era, I finally bought my own console, the Sega Genesis - and became a hardcore Madden player for the entire decade of the 90s! Take a step back in time with me as we talk about these benchmark sports games, and more, alll of them part of my Retro Sports Memories! And please tell me some of your favorite retro sports game memories in the comments below!

Hey, thanks much, really appreciated. A little more casual video today, but I do love retro game memories! Very cool you liked the bit on John Elway, it's definitely an under appreciated gem of late 80s sports games. Just a heads up, I subscribed to your channel and am checking out some of your vids! Thanks again, mate!

Thanks for the memories and yeah no one really talks about the handhelds. My brother had some when I was young that I thought was really cool.

Andy, so glad you liked it! And I think I got a notification that you subscribed too - I just want to thank you so much, this video, while certainly I put some work and love into, does not get many views, and I understand it's just a recollection from a random KZbinr, but your comment is really what it's all about as far as I'm concerned - sharing this history and these memories that were the early beginnings of what so many of us enjoy today. Thank you again, and please don't hesitate to chime in again, I appreciate your feedback!

Awesome thanks for the kind response! I am a therapist and love hearing from so many how much these memories and games meant to a lot of us growing up that got us through all the ups and downs. Also it's these channels that just makes my day a little better :) I have a local store here and swear I've seen some of these handhelds so I may just treat myself and take a look this weekend.

@@AndyVandercoy - perhaps I could use your services, ha ha, such crazy family dynamics back in the day! You are very welcome Andy, I hope you enjoy other videos I've made. I have some absolutely crazy videos coming up for 70s and 80s arcade, console and even portable history. I think I've even discovered some 'firsts' never reported before. It's gonna get bizarre and fascinating all at the same time!

@@HeroJournalismha yeah even I have a therapist and so glad it helps get through those jumbled up experiences. Either way makes for some at least interesting moments. Also wonderful. The 70s and early 80s was my brother's Era for sure. He was the reason I got into a lot of these things of nerd culture dnd, atari, wrestling, MTV, commodore 64, nes, skating (kind of)and so on. Quite the amazing person even though he made life "interesting" at times lol He is now a firefighter who spent time out dealing with the wild fires very proud of that man. I've seen some people modding the 64mini to have working keys. Pretty neat stuff so might have to do that and send it to him as a gift this year. Anyways. I'm a rambler. Thanks and will check out the new content!

Are you a sports-ambivalent that has loving sports retro-game memories? CORRECTION: the audio jack was not on the original Mattel handhelds, this was an addition for the recent repros.
