In retrospect, the 2009 Rumble is absolutely loaded with talent. Also, the Mysterio spot is clearly the spiritual predecessor of Kofi’s recurring spots which started in 2012.

Ray was jst way ahead of his time but the only one that made it work for him to be Me or upper card on WWE for 20 year. N had a nice we mid card carrier in wcw as a kid. Still dom debuted 2005 so he's only a few year behind his uncle Ray lol

This was the first WWE PPV I ever watched. I invited my high school WWE friends to a watch party. And when Matt Hardy struck Jeff with the chair, the whole room went “Oh my God!” in unison. It took us a while to get invested in the RR match, not because we weren’t enjoying it but we were still in a state of shock over the turn.

It was my first Royal Rumble PPV as a kid so it has a special place in my heart. The card was great and it was one of the most stacked rumbles. Definitely an all top 5 rumble for me.

The Mikey Roarke thing was funny. He reportedly pulled out from the Jericho match because he was scared Chris would hurt him. Maybe it’s just me, but I think Chris would out-wrestle him (he should be able to), maybe make him look foolish(he does that to a lot of people), but hurt him? Jericho? He just never came across to me as the most physically intimidating guy in any wrestling organization…🤔

Having said that, when Lesnar opened up Randy Orton the hard way a few years later and the wrestlers thought he'd gone into business for himself, Jericho is apparently the one who went to confront him until they'd told everyone it was planned. Maybe not physically imposing, and probably not going to win that one, but there's something to be said for that.

Yes! This rumble is a personal favorite of mine plus i graduated from High School that year too! Randy Orton was the right choice for Rumble winner and Rey's Gold and White Gear was a rare treat. You would think he would wear that style for Wrestlemanias but hey, this made the Rumble that year feel big time ❤

Great review as always, but a few small points. 1. Rourke bowed out of his Mania match because of concerns that his involvement would hurt his Oscar chances... And Rourke was the one who publicly called out Jericho, 5 weeks early, and started the whole fiasco getting scrapped ... 2. Michaels' story was one of a mix of the real stock market issues at the time and 'bad investments'... Not that he 'wasted his money'
