What you are missing is MP 36+ which may be the best of both worlds, the masterpiece Megatron MP 36 but with the vintage G1 styling. Personally I hated it as a kid, but I love it now. It is so squat and goofy, and yet so menacing, with an alt mode shunned by the western world, it's a product of a bygone time we'll never see again. And yet, it somehow conquered the world in 1984 and many of us found one under our xmas tree. I believe all the Japanese versions fired pellets, and had a sword, mine is still MIB so never had the pleasure of trying out the action feature. Where I am in the world Im not sure I would ever sell it as I dont know how it would show up in an xray at the shipper service lol
@ZedMazaus4808 ай бұрын
As long as it's shipped in robot mode in the mail it should be fine. I know in the US that's the case. Shipping it in gun mode is where problems come into play.

NIce review/comparison of the classic Megatron. Thanks! As a kid back then, I always wondered if Megatron was a tiny robot since his alternate weapon mode is standard scale. With other vehicles, one can imagine they're large compared to the vehicles they switch to, but the TV show clears it all up by warping the size.

Never had Megatron as a kid, because here in Germany he was very very hard to find in the toy stores, like all the TF from the first wave. TF were not that popular in 1984 over here in Germany because the cartoon series was not available yet in german language. If you had cable TV (which my parents had) you were a lucky kid, because you could watch TF in english language over Sky Channel (FunFactory) from the british television. In Germany the cartoons came out very late in 1989 in german synchronisation on RTL Plus. In 2001 I had my first PC and internet and I bought the japanese Takara re-issue version of Megatron from a guy from New York City on ebay for 100 US-Dollars plus 27 Dollars for shipping. That was the first time I had a G1 Megatron in person. A year ago I managed to get also the black ehobby Takara version for a reasonable price. You never can have enought G1 Megatrons. PS: I also have the Netflix War for Cybertron Megatron which looks more like in the SunBow cartoons.

Great video. Honestly as a kid the gun mode w/ all the parts was fun to play w/ it. Its almost exactly the same size alt mode as Prime is w/ his trailer 2. Holding a minty 1 today in its full armed alt mode us more impressive than G1 Prime's truck imo. Prime is the better bot! Still as a bot Megatron scales almost perfectly next to Prime & looks his equal. Especially w/ his hips collapsed & legs closer together (he loses stability though.) They both make a base mode w/ all the extra parts too. When they decided on the leader toys it was the right choice given the options. They were both the biggest 2 in 84 before the line expanded also. The issues back then w/ Megatron were: 1. It was too complex & fragile for a kid. 2. The anime drifted a bit too much. I disagree RESPECTIVELY w/ ur take on the show making it look cooler. Just look at the toy box art. That bot looks cool imho. The face difference was too extreme & threw us off as kids. The chest swirls should've either been added in the cartoon or they could've simply removed tht sticker from the toy for free lol. Lastly the gun barrel difference in bot mode was too different. If u raise up his back arm bar assembly on the toy it clears easy & goes behind his head instead of on his hip w/ 0 stress or risk of breakage. They could've added tht to the instructions & never depicted it on his hip in toy images or animated it it on his hip in the cartoon. Either would've solved breakage & helped accuracy. At the time they prob didnt expect us to be collecting these & didnt care if it broke or matched the toon. They probably had no idea the line would be this successful. Prime is the better toy because it's more solid & matched the anime better. As an adult if u open up that minty encore w/ tight joints & perfect chrome I think you'll see it's a lot closer than we thought as a kid.

Megatron was a great villain (I Still hate him) but it was an easy pass as a toy, it was ugly, it looked nothing like the cartoon, it was really hard to find and very expensove if you ever find it. I usually prefer g1 transformers but for me my favorite alternate form for megatron was a tank, that honestly makes more sense for the enemy of optimus than a hand gun. (also never was a fan of the g1 convenient resizing)
@tydiriumhanger13208 ай бұрын
Yep was such an odd figure. A tank does make more sense but the gun will forever be etched into my mind as the original megs

I want a missing link Megatron as well but it's a tougher challenge then Prime. Hold Megatron & inspect it. How do you articulate that head? How do u give those arms an elbow bend? Given his head & arms make a metal bar tht locks in his back how does he get an ab crucnch or waist swivel? Even adding a ball or universal joint somewhere in his leg/hip assembly would be difficult. Adding an ankle rocker would even be a nightmare to solve. Thigh rotation? Where & how? The only easy thing u could add is a knee joint. It would almost need to be a new, far different mold which kind of gets away from the point. All that said it's by far the next missing link i would want if i could choose. From what i see & hear i think most agree so i HOPE they do try to do it. Its a challenge so tht would be real fan service.
@ZedMazaus4808 ай бұрын
If Takara did make a missing link G1 Megatron it'd be a Japanese exclusive only. Most countries toy laws prohibit anything remotely resembling a real gun, let alone one that is bigger than what modern figure accessories are. Which means hasbro will never sell it if they did. Also if you want a modern animation accurate G1 Megatron you only have to wait for the leader class SS86 figure that's coming down the pipe line. Especially since it's been leaked that we're getting one within a year roughly. And no he won't have a gun mode.
@tydiriumhanger13208 ай бұрын
maybe he can have an upside down sub marine mode
@ZedMazaus4808 ай бұрын
@@tydiriumhanger1320 Not very likely. Especially since they BARELY got away with it on the WFC Siege Shockwave, since he's blaster mode is a futuristic lazer gun that doesn't like any modern firearm. Thus can be tweeked to look like something else. Megatron does not have that luxury being based off a real world weapon that also has licensing issues to get around too. We're better off getting a whole new alt mode like a WWII seated turret cannon that only somewhat resembles his old design. At least that way he can still be aimed and fired by core class figures to represent that old function.

True definition of wonky. But it’s weird how he occupied a space in my mind back then of being ugly and cool at the same time. However, MP 36 is my gold standard and in some ways I enjoy posing him more than my MP 44

If it's got the orange cap it's a reissue or a recent KO. The encore barrel change where you could put it behind his back without worrying about breaking like the original was a nice change. Just like the slider change on the roof of Jazz so he wasn't looking down into his chest.
