RETRO-WED: GOBOT COMMAND CENTER PLAYSET

Empire came out in 1980. Tonka designed the comand center for the gobots toy line in 1984. Maybe concepts were developed in 1983. I remember this toy looking to be 3 feet tall when I was a kid. I can't believe this was a 20 dollar toy in 84/85.

Now since 1991, Hasbro owned a few GoBot toys.

"Tune Up Casserole" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I totally forgot about the cafe. I had this set too. The Dematerializer picture of the guy half dematerialized always kind of freaked me out as a kid. They totally killed that guy in the "Good Guys" command center. In a way, Gobots was deep. 😜 I love your playset videos man!!! Thanks for making them.

I never had gobots as a kid though I loved the show....glad I got some now. Tux, Turbo and my favorite, Crasher.

Thanks for that trip down memory lane! I had this playset, and I forgot about most of the rooms until you showed them (and it came back to me) I had Transformers mostly, so only the mini-bots (like Bumblebee) could kind of fit in the sections. My friend Brian had Gobots. He liked them because they were cheaper. And my friend Deanna liked them because there were a lot of girl Gobots. We used to play that Leader-1 would call Optimus for help (or vice versa) and then we'd have adventures with both sets of toys

Brings back great memories. Santa brought me one for Xmas one year - must've been about 1985 or '86. I loved GoBots, and though smaller then Transformers figures, they were also more affordable at the time. Thanks for the vid!

I always thought that the commander center was alive (kind like sky linx from transformers) but when I saw the cartoon was kind like surprised that it was just a space ship.

Empire was 1980 so at-at was first but no gobots didn’t copy Star Wars and it came before transformers

Before I had transformers I had gobots. And maaaaan was I happy when I got the command center for Xmas. Some of the gobots I really liked. Crasher and jeepers were cool although my crasher was blue and white and the one on the show was black. Crane brain, a few planes I can't remember the names of, leader 1 and cykill, pathfinder, turbo.... Oh man, that cafe.....lol And I'm pretty sure that prison would be easy to break out of.....or just climb out of. Scooter was a weird one for me, I thought the figure was one of the best but his character in the cartoon drove me nuts. I hated everything about him, aside from the fact Frank Welker did his voice. I really liked the larger, faceless figures but I only had a few due to my puny allowance....and then Transformers came out and hasbro consumed tonka....for the best I suppose. I remember I used to bring gobots to school and trade mine with some of my friends who had different ones, and one day a friend brought in G1 Sideswipe and I was FLOORED. I HAD to get these "transformers!" Needless to say he wouldn't trade sideswipe, not even for 3 of my gobots. And for a while the transformers sold as fast as they hit shelves so it took a while. Gobots were solid, sturdy, well-made figures and other than loose joints after a few decades they very rarely broke. I got hours and hours of playtime out of all my gobots as well as the command center. Yep, nostalgia bomb!👽👍

Exec 1"Hey we need a playset for our new warring robots line" Exec 2 "Let's just rip off those really popular star wars toys but make it stand on it's end with a creepy face and have it open up so it looks like it is a flasher exposing himself to the kids" Exec 1 "Brilliant! I like these better than transformers because the scale was more accurate unlike transformers

I don't think gobots can be reprogrammed as they are actually cyborgs and have organic brains.
