Instead of believing that Bianca is gay, Erica believes that Bianca is suffering from "mommy issues". December 2000

Grew up watching all abc soaps. This storyline affected me more than any. So brilliantly written. It really left a mark on me and ended up helping me understand my own brother.

This is such an awesome storyline. My brother is homosexual, and when he came out my mother behaved in much the same way as Erica. Susan played the heck out of this.

Especially when you consider that people may assume that because she’s in the entertainment industry and accepted other gay people that she would automatically accept Bianca being gay. I am thankful they were realistic in approaching this.

Erica doesnt realize that your sexuality can not be changed. If someone does not accept you for who you are then they are not a true friend and family member. We are all on the same track in life. We just have different routes to where we are going.

I stopped watching AMC but came just in time to see this so glad I did . It is beautifully written you can't help Falling in Love with Bianca. After all this time I still think about her and what she went through and strong she truly was . Thank you.

So true! You don't choose your sexuality. Erica doesn't realize that. Bianca has always been a lesbian. What another well acted scene from Susan and Eden. ❤
@janetoconnor3636Ай бұрын
If she was always a lesbian did she tried to ask Leo to make love to her and the same for Marcus the jock. She was not sure.

Erica is no different from many parents in that time period and before. Most parents then always had an excuse why their child was gay. They always thought they did something wrong as a parent - like not loving their child enough or a divorce - but no they just need to accept their kid is gay and it's not the end of the world. It's gotten better over time thanks to stories like Bianca's.

Deeply Scarred You’re so right. People demonize Erica for how she reacted, but she reacted as any parent would, especially in this time period. My mom actually reacted MUCH WORSE when my brother came out. She called him names no mother should ever call her child (or anyone). Thankfully she came around to full acceptance, but it was rough for a long time. Erica, however misguided at times, was a good and loving mother.

I count myself as one of the luckier ones..my daughter and I had a very close loving relationship and talked about openly about most issues(I am not naive enough to believe that she tells me everything but she talks to me about many things most children would not talk with their parents about) When my daughter came out we stayed up, kept the coffeepot going and talked all night... oh yes I asked questions like are you sure? Are you questioning? And so on Finally I realized that this was her life and I couldn't change it...I simply said 'ok then.. I will always be here remember that! I love you that will never change

i know its scary. dont be afraid. my dad handled it exactly like erica did. thinking i needed a shrink. luckily for me my grandma (his mom) straightened him out BIG TIME. she told him if he didnt get his act together and accept me for who and what i was, then the entire family would disown HIM! he came back home a changed person. it'll all work out, even if u dont have anyone like that. u do what u have to do until u get out on ur own then they dont have to see u if they cant deal with it. :)

When my brother came out to our mom, she reacted a million times worse than Erica. Called my brother names that no mother should ever call her child. And it took her years to accept the way things were. Now, she’s such a proud mother. Like Erica, it took awhile. Also, people forget that, when this storyline took place, open homosexuality was only just beginning to become the norm. It was still extremely taboo. Erica’s reaction was a very accurate portrayal.

Great storyline, I watched AMC since the 70's. My mom and grandmother watched it so I caught it daily. The only thing is I don't believe for one moment Pinevalley has it's own airport and it's own beach. What beach did Erica go drive to?

i always found the children argument stupid, there' s many straight people who are unable to have kids and there's people like one of my friends who doesn't feel the need to have kids to be happy.

I remember seeing the Sneak Preview and being so scared for Bianca. You want to check out an amazing Storyline that's starting. Check out Coronation Street where Sterling Gallagher (who played Jennifer Taylor-Clarke) on The UK Version of The Office, will get involved with the Daughter of her Client Sally named Sophie. Sally & Paula were in School together and while Paula is a successful Lawyer, Sally is a Seamstress and The Town Mayor who was accused of stealing $40,000.00 from a Charity Fund. When Sally finds out about the May/December Romance she's going to freak out. The UK does a lot of fantastic Same Sex Storylines on Emmerdale, Hollyoaks as well. In fact they have a FTM Trans Character on Emmerdale and a Same Sex Couple as well.

I never got the obsession of humans labeling something as "normal" just because majority does it but then go around screaming "Praise the differences" (meaning personalities, clothing etc). If we praise difference being gay or not should not be important. Being gay doesn't define anyone. Every gay person is different same as any straight person. When I am a mother I will tell my children from the start love who you want and the wil know there is nothing wrong with it. If anyone says so I will give them a piece of my thoughts.
