It's Adam Koralik here and today we're discussing the wireless Sega Genesis controller by RetroBit. How does the controller work? Certainly not bad! It's also compatible with the PC, Mac, Nintendo Switch, Sega Genesis Mini, and even the Sony PlayStation 3. It also maaaaaaybe compatible with the Sega Master System. ;)

Great to see all these new Sega controllers from Retro-bit! If you haven't seen it yet, they're also releasing another controller soon called the BIG6. It uses the design of the 3 button controller and it has 6 face buttons, with wired and wireless models. Very curious to see that one, it looks pretty nice.

I have two wired Genesis controllers and one Saturn controller. All of them are from Retro-Bit and they're pretty solid, except when used on a PS3 honestly. But still, it's nice to see Sega give them support with making these.

I can confirm this controller will work 100% with the Genesis 2 mini. Love the was they included two receivers (1 USB and one 9 pin). Very nice controller if you're a Genesis fan.

Adam, when my brother and I had the original Sega Genesis console (I’m 99% sure it was the 1st model) I too remembered using the 3 button version controller. The one thing is I’m not sure if he or we ever bought the 6-button controller. But yeah I’ve always been fond of the original controller.

I've used my retrobit Saturn wireless controller (the 2.4GHz one with the USB dongle) with the Genesis 2 Mini and its been perfect. I'd imagine its the same for this since its the same controller type, just in a Genesis six button shell

i think the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive mini 2 has USB ports for controllers, so its really nice to see that the controller supports both USB and MD/Genesis ports!! And i love the colour. And officially licenced by Sega? How much more awesome could it be? 😄 I mean, tahts cool!

It really is a great controller! I bought the translucent blue one a while back and I love it!!! I also bought the translucent blue Sega Saturn controller, and it is my absolute favorite controller to play Saturn games with!

As an owner of a Master System 2 i was curious if it works on the Master System. Happy to still see more well quality hardware of Sega in 2022. It feels kinda unreal for me because after they stopped to produce the Dreamcast I thought to never see new products of the brand SEGA again, and now we are more than 20 years later with Mega Drive 2 Mini, Sonic Frontiers and so much more.

Wired one runs flawlessly with Mega Drive mini 2. 6 buttons and the „hidden” shoulder mode button are welcome addittion. I actually used only this one instead of the packed-in controller

I like this controller a lot, the crimson red is awesome. I use it for the Genesis and my primary 2D gaming controller for my Switch.

These are all cool controllers. BTW, I have one of these Crimson Red wireless controllers and I've tested it with the Mega SG and Genesis Mini 2. It works with both.

Pretty sure the micro USB port on the Genesis dongle is meant for firmware updates. You may want to check Retro-bit’s website for any firmware versions.

good video but it has to be said dont assume you get both dongles in the box, on amazon uk they seem to only have usb. it says on the box "compatible with sega genesis via genesis dongle available separately". retrobit also dont have the wireless version at all, so make sure you are buying what you really want.

That's the Bluetooth variant. I highly recommend the 2.4 variant for the Mega Drive, as it syncs faster. With Bluetooth dongle though, you can use DS4 and some other Bluetooth controllers.

Have you heard about that Jason David Frank who did the Green Ranger and the White Ranger on Mighty Morphin Power Rangers had sadly took his own life yesterday (November 20th, 2022)?

@@AdamKoralik it's very sad that happened. I was really into power rangers alot in the mid 2000s until like the early or mid 2010s. I didn't even notice that Thuy Trang who did the Yellow Ranger had died back in September 3rd 2001 from a car wreck until like 2 months ago when I was wanting to look back at some history of the series to see what I missed out on. She died like 2 weeks before I was born, I was born on September 24th 2001.

Adam I picked up one of these after watching your review but I noticed after using it for awhile the A and C buttons never seem to work. No matter how hard I press them they never register any inputs. Did you have any of those issues with it? Maybe the one I bought was just assembled wrong or something with the pads on the board not in the right spot for the buttons to register a press. Just curious

To me the controller is why I always though of SNES Mortal Kombat as best home console version. I didn't care about things like no blood all I cared about was the game. That's how Sega's ads at the time attacking Nintendo got them no ware.

Some Master System games, such as Wonder Boy in Monster Land, are incompatible with the original Mega Drive/Genesis controller. Has anybody here tested this RetroBit controller with the list of incompatible games?

Power Rangers was popular when I was growing up, but I HATED IT and thought it was so stupid because the Saban version of it was so corny like Saved by the Bell...I recently saw the original Japanese Kyoryu Sentai Zyuranger (subtitled in English of course) and it's a really great tokusatsu show, so I guess that I really just hate and have always hated how Haim Saban mutilated the show for Western audiences.

7:45 I haven't gotten around to getting a six-button controller for either my Sega Genesis OG model 2 or Genesis Mini's. The only games I've played extensively for either are good enough for three-button, though there's that Adam part of me that thinks it's like playing or watching anything only on composite video 🟡⚪🔴
