Which Iria is more badass: Anime vs Live Action

I grew up watching Iria as one of my first animations. God I loved the art, the atmosphere, the characters. The world or Galaxy rather, really made you want to know more about it, like we just got a few peeks into it. It would've made a great anime series, they SHOULD make it into an anime series.

I was crushing on anime Iria as a teen, I couldn't watch the live action back then, didn't want anything to mess up how great she already was to me. Maybe I'll check it out now, I've watched most of what I wanted on Netflix and Hulu by now lol

Honestly, I throughly enjoy both of them (including the live action sequel) I think they both bring unique styles. It all depends on what you're in the mood for. I always felt lucky to catch em on the Sci-Fi channel 🪐

Dude, this is one of my favorite anime to this day! I wish it was longer but it was something about the intro and the character and that world I really enjoyed! But I gotta go with the anime: it did it way more justice, there were cool scenes in the movie but she didn’t even look like her. The story was also just ok.

I love both! I saw the original live action movie first. Back in college, I rented the VHS from a local movie rental place MANY times. Keita Amemiya has a great eye for badass design. I just thought it was so cool and unique. I bought the anime at a convention some years later, and to this day it’s one of my all time favorites. What an awesome interpretation of the source material. The aesthetic and music combine to give a really cool take on sci fi. A true classic now!

They both great, but I have to say I like the tokusatsu one more. Zeiram looks absolutely amazing and the actor under the suit was one of the suit actors for Godzilla. You can even see it somewhat in how he walks as zeiram with bold, direct, forcefull steps

The anime's what I think of when I hear the word "anime", so, I'm biased. The live action's setting and "power up posing" makes it feel cheesier. Both are, and cheese IS wonderful, but I think the anime's just more solid and cool. Adore them both either way. 💜

I just finished The Live Action One piece series on Netflix and it really shows how you do a live adaptation perfectly especially having the creator himself to support it since they're planning on making 6 to 12 seasons in the future but in the past they were awful live adaptations like m night shyamalan's Last Airbender which ruined Noah ringer's career before it started and the live action cowboy bebop series that failed even choosing the wrong cast to play the characters and don't get me started with dragon ball evolution but at least alita battle angel and ghost in the shell was ok since recently they confirmed that they're making a sequel to battle angel. So i guess nowadays we're living in a era where classics are getting remakes and it's still nostalgic how everyone used to hate and didn't like anime before it became very popular and mainstream Lol

Didn’t know that they made this anime into a live action. To me it is Russian Roulette because of everything involved in a live action versus anime. Edit. Just realized the anime was based off of the live action first movie. I remember a game that was released for the SNES in Japan but it never was released anywhere else.

Anime is the best medium to do different stories, characters, worlds, visuals, themes, and expressions that live action can not do. Live action is too grounded in reality, taking away the point of fantasy.

It's really about how to execute the translation to live action. You really have to approach it with realism in mind and bend the rules there. Hell lots of western fantasy movies inspired some anime we've seen.

Live action was like a super sentai show, limited by what they could achieve with the cgi of the time. Zeiram felt fairly human. Anime could do things to make it more of a *space* opera, and Zeiram felt much more alien

The live Iria is more badass, but I think anime Iria, shown here, is before she becomes a full-fledged bounty hunter. I remember Zeiram the Animation fondly. Good times when this would show up on the Sci-Fi Channel.

I haven't seen zeiram the animation, so I can't tell which is more badass. I have seen live action movie adaptations of anime . Some are incredibly bad, and some really good. For this, I'll have to say anime, but I need to see every episode of this anime and then see the live action to see if it sticks to the source material.
