Hey man. Nice review. I just bought an rg505, and I wanted to share my experience with it. If I be honest, almost all of your problems dont happen to me. I dont know if I am more tolerant, but things like the small power button doesnt bother me at all, my thumb just sinks right in and it feels fine. The D PAd problem you say doesnt happen with my piece. It doesnt feel to me that I have to put alot of pressure to press the shoulder buttons, and the device seems quite heavy to me compared to its size. Its about the same weight as a PS Vita. I also dont find the ergonomics a problem. Ive been gaming on this device for long sessions and i dont feel any pain in my hands. In fact i'd say its the first device that I can play for many hours at a stretch cause i liked to take around my old psp for some retro fun on the go, and just after a while would start feeling pain in my hands. Maybe im one of those who's hands are just right size to hold the RG505. Plus the OLED screen is really vibrant and its such a blast playing my old retros on it + some of the new games i couldnt emulate on the go before. In all, it might have been another product to dump into the bin for you, but for me it has been one of the most fun times since a while.

I have never understood people's obsession with their not being any bezels around screens. I like them. I think shit looks weird and awful without them.
@YourPalHDee
@YourPalHDee 9 ай бұрын
I don't get it either. When you play videogames, you're fully focused on the screen anyway. That's like complaining about a painting because of the frame it's in. People are just autistic as hell.

Same think the way the plastic encroaches on the screen of the retroid actually makes it look cheaper than the bezels. The clean lines a bezel provides is much more atheistically pleasing. Honestly think this guy just loves the retroid a bit too much since it’s basically the same power same os, same layout, but close to 3 times the price and no “basically the same price” as he claims. Heard plenty that the retroid controls are not as good as their price point should be anyway.

Honestly surprised more people aren’t talking about the 505. At launch it was priced the same as the RP3+, but now it’s on sale for about $45 bucks less and it’s even cheaper than the standard RP3. $115 for a T618 device with the vita OLED screen seems like a great deal, but curious on your thoughts

I think Anbernic is off in the right direction since the RG552 disaster... the fact that this is almost half the price of the release price of an RG552 and can outperform it is pretty respectable. I'm gonna grab one soon and add it to my collection for such an affordable price. I think where this device can also shine is that screen, Anbernic has always been really good about giving great screen hardware, and again for the price, this is a really nice rig. I also want to mention that the RG505, while using the same chipset as the Retroid Pocket 3+, boasts 4GB of RAM over the 2/3GB of RAM Retroid option. And once again great review. Love seeing your content.

I'm agree with you but just to mention that 2/3 GB of ram is for RP3, the RP3+ has 4 GB RAM and 128 GB storage like RG505

One big mistake they *didn't* make is screw up the START/SELECT button locations. Really disappointed in Retroid for this, despite their last two devices being otherwise perfect.

I was really torn between this and the pocket 3+ but heavily I’m leaning towards the pocket now. I'm assuming brands that are trying to establish a name for themselves like Anbernic and GoRetroid won't preload games for legal reasons, unless it's something like the Evercade EXP (partnership with Capcom) or the many shady 3rd party resellers out there that bundle handhelds with microSD cards containing thousands of games (and charging you a premium for games they aren't even licensed to distribute, of course).

I actually did the same shake test with a couple of my Anbernic devices, the RG280V and RG353V and they both had the same rattling sound, coming from the shoulder buttons. The default joycons on my Switch Oled also make the same noise. If the shaking on the RG505 is just coming from those as well it wouldn't be super concerning, but i'm not 100% if that's the case.

“I have to respect because this is only a $150 device”… no you don’t. Brother, ps2 games are now 20 years old. They need to stop releasing devices and flooding the market for just the sake of flooding the market. How many devices are we going to go through until something can actually run ps2 at 30 frames minimum 100% of the time? $150 somehow now became the affordable market all of a sudden for these things when it’s really not. You’re in switch territory. It’s getting laughably ridiculous.

Ps2 emulation is literally only good on the steam deck if you want it to run well most of the time what are you talking about,
@dracquiteur.4730
@dracquiteur.4730 Жыл бұрын
@FruitLoops Kinda get what OP means though. You definitely don't need Steam Deck to get perfect performance, weaker hardware is also capable of running PS2 (at native resolution). If you look at retro handhelds, this might seem like a good deal. But looking at a smartphone with a similar price, you get much better performance. Couldn't these handheld use those chips instead, which are significantly more powerful than what is currently in them? Maybe, maybe not. Would be cool to see a company try it out.
@JS-sv4ol
@JS-sv4ol Жыл бұрын
@@dracquiteur.4730 yeah agreed with you
@fruitloops7064
@fruitloops7064 Жыл бұрын
@@dracquiteur.4730 for about 150$ you could maybe get a smartphone with slightly better specs if you look hard enough but if you are buying a 50$ peripheral then most certainly not. Also the t618 ps2 performance is not as bad as retro dodo makes it out to be. As a rp3+ user who handles that device’s community spreadsheet. More than half of the ps2 library runs well and even a lot of decently high end 3D games (like dragon quest 8, burnout 3, god of war, jak and daxter, etc) have all been proven to be very playable with some settings changes. A better chip could slightly improve performance yes, but to get a lot of games this device struggles to run to run even remotely well you need an Odin minimum which is 250$ and isn’t pocketable. A 150$ pocketable machine that has its own controller ergonomics and good battery life that can run more than half of the ps2 library and most of the gc library and quite a bit of wii and even 3ds is a very solid deal. It is on anbernic for constantly rushing out shabby products but the problem with the rg505 isn’t it’s price or performance at all, it just is inferior to the rp3+ in a lot of other key categories which came out at the same time.
@lebroncarter4902

Well the price for the handhelds are understandable considering these people who make these devices cant buy in bulk like a lot of pc companies or phone companies to get the parts way cheaper also taking into consideration them having to have a screen and controls like I can pick up a $100 lenovo THINKCENTRE and ip play ps2 flawlessly even some newer stuff like a beelink but what gets me is the inconsistency in performance at the price points you can get a $200 handheld that cant do anything in comparison to a $120 handheld plus ps2 is hard to emulate but yeah anbernic has come out with many useless handhelds that just seem to be thrown out there for the sake of throwing it out there so $150 to $200 is cheap considering what it is

Why is every company releasing a new handheld what seems like every month? Can't they just focus on like maybe one really good release a year? There's no point in flooding the market just to flood the market. Most of these handhelds come from like 3 or 4 different companies so I don't get why they all have like 50 devices each. I get that the answer is probably going to be money but you'd think just having one really good release would make more money than 50 releases of basically the same thing with maybe a different screen, slightly different controls, and MAYBE might play a few more games/consoles their last one couldn't. It's actually kinda pathetic.
@umamifan
@umamifan Жыл бұрын
Because that doesn't generate them enough of a profit. Their business model revolves around shipping out as many units as possible in a given year. They do this on purpose. They purposely hold back a lot of features they could already implement so that they don't make a single gamechanger device and have people stop buying. That's why they don't support hardware for as long as companies in Western markets do. Suckers will keep buying the latest and greatest, even if it's only great by a small margin. So now we're at this point where they're holding back so they can just shovel us low end overpriced hardware
