Phaedra (TD) was my first exposure to electronic music. I'm now approaching 70 years old and I'm still listening to synth music from the early days of Tangerine Dream, Schulze and many others to now. State Azure is one of the new electronic artists who has captured me once again. The Berlin School and it's associated sounds and rhythms, remains the epitome of that genre we all love and continue to be entranced by. Regards Rob (UK)

I'm 55 and feel the same. As for myself, TD's absolute best work was in the 80's. State Azure is truly awesome. His TD's covers are excellent.

An insane amount of my lifetime was/is to listen to music, so... the 70's electronik music is a huge part of it. Tangerine Dream/Klaus Schulze/Ashra Tempel - Manuel Goettsching and... many more, i just can't stop listening to this.
@pmlbeiraoАй бұрын
A common misconception about the "Berlin school" sound it that it was all analog electronics. There were many kinds of instruments involved in the sound, including pianos, electric guitars, flutes, and of course the Mellotron, which added a very organic feel to the music. Edgar Froese played his electric guitar in almost all TD songs in the mid-70s. Manuel Gottsching of course created his own guitar-based sound. Klaus Schulze used to be a drummer, and his late 70s albums included drums played by his friend Harald Grosskopf. These are the obvious examples.
@TonyShephard-w4mАй бұрын
obviously not strictly a Berlin School band, but not without parallels; even Kraftwerk had many 'organic' instruments as well as electronics, maybe most notably Florian Schneider's flute.

Atem and Zeit are amongst my top picks, along with Rubycon, Ricochet, Malaysian Pale, and Phaedra of course. The original line up, Franke, Froese and Bauman still hold sway over me. Zeit and Atem were dark but brilliantly conceived. I had the first 15 years of Tangerine Dreams' albums on vinyl. But I sold them for a significant sum to another fan. I know what you think, crazy fool right, I agree. But I'm still a massive Tangerine Dream follower, even the new line up. Tangerine Dream were pioneers, and deservedly so.

Sitting in the Balcony of a darkened theater as the opening credits to Risky Business came across the screen... Music by Tangerine Dream.. hmm interesting name but who's that somewhat brushing that question off but then the music starts to play and I'm hooked. I recognized the vocal music so immediately assume the electronic is Tangerine Dream. I even sit through the credits getting every bit of that music. The very next day I got to the shopping mall and look through every section in both Musicland and Great American Music and find a small section in Musicland that held mainly two artists: Tangerine Dream and Kitaro. Seeing the cover for Force Majeure I grabbed that and Tangram and I was intrigued by the cover of Silk Road II by Kitaro I made a note and bought the two Tangerine Dream vinyls. I went home and listened over and over to those two albums and thankfull I had a Sharp RP 117 turntable that allowed me to play both sides of the vinyl without flipping (still have it). This started my 40+ year passion for music and Tangerine Dream in particular. Such great music. It's been called New Age, Electronic, electronica, ambient and Belin School. I look for those genres just to find the good music I know exists within them that I will like. I've had a few disappointments over the years but overall those genres have been what I listen ot the most. This video brings that sound back from the late 70's early 80's. Thank you.

If you like "Love on a Real Train", you should check out Steve Reich's "Music for 18 Musicians". TD asked for his permission to take samples from it, which he duly gave. Then he found they had not exactly sampled it, they had used it as a backing track.

What's hilarious is, however gorgeous the AI visuals are, and they are as demonstrated here (though they are all rather uniform and repetitive in their aesthetic), and even how they've become increasingly detailed and nuanced, they not only have shown that they are often stumped by human anatomy details, such as groups of fingers on a hand and legs on running humans, they seem to be stumped by the widely established and ubiquitous musical keyboard.
@sarahdee22877 күн бұрын
The entire video long, as one image fades into the next, I have been on the edge of my seat to see how and in what way the AI incorrectly interprets the classic black and white layout of the common keyboard, and its relation to the human hand. Again, and as always…our species can be sure, that our opposable thumbs and other high functioning phalanges, are evolutionarily what sets us apart from all other entities….even the ones we have made with them.

Famous anti-technologist and theologian Jacques Ellul pointed out a future, where pressing buttons, turning dials, creating some change, more or less would define an entire society. In terms of works and play. Entire technique be it music or sound would equate to the same experience. Like Magic in the beginning and then nothing else eventually. That was the future, of a button pushing elite world, of wow sounds, now that has been replicated 1000 million times over.
