Thanks for this. As an old fart comming from 8bit, this is a great show to follow! Iøve been looking forward to episodes every month! Thanks! As an audio nerd, I suggest you use a high pass filter on your voice set on 90-100 Hz. There's audible plosives.
@RetroGamerNation Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching, this show is aimed at the modern c64 gamer and those who just want to reflect on old times. Thanks for the feedback on audio as well, for some reason this month contained a lot of plosives. Spent a bit of time eliminating many of them but I admit that there a still too many left in. Will look into the filter you mentioned.

Congrats on the release of Yeti Mountain! Something to be proud of from all involved. Also nice to hear that Reyn Ouwehand still composes SID tracks, here's hoping his mate Jeroen Tel will come back to the SID one day as well. Thanks for the round up, indeed looks like a great start to 2024 for the C64.

@@RetroGamerNationI would suggest Sarah Jane Avery. Maybe a Zoom/Skype interview?
@RetroGamerNation11 ай бұрын
That would be a wonderful guest to have on and while I have interviewed Sarah once before via email, I don't believe Sarah would be up for such a segment. I do have one coder in mind who would be perfect for this type of segment and better suited to providing a beginners perspective.
@JustWasted3HoursHere11 ай бұрын
@@RetroGamerNationI can imagine that Sarah is quite busy. She generally releases two or three games per year, or at least it seems that way, so probably doesn't have much time to do an interview. Who did you have in mind for the interview?
@RetroGamerNation11 ай бұрын
I won't reveal the person just yet as I would prefer to have their contribution in place but the coder I have in mind produced a high quality commercial title not too long ago and has been willing to share his experiences with the community in the past. He is a perfect fit to kick off what I am hoping could be a new semi-regular segment.

“So naturally, this is the best game you’ll ever play!” lololol honestly it looks good. I love an rpg and I love winter and this looks to me like ski free fleshed out into an rpg which I’m ALL IN to.
@RetroGamerNation29 күн бұрын
Thanks so much for picking up on the sarcasm. I hope you go well with the game and remember that the game is designed to give you plenty of time and you can take a steady pace in the ski runs and still complete them in time.

@@RetroGamerNation that sounds great. Is there a physical cartridge available soon? I went over to the site, and I’d LOVE a gold one, but I’m not in a position to be able to support any Patreons at the moment.
@RetroGamerNation26 күн бұрын
The game will be made available as a general cartridge release during 2025. We are just about to start working on the packaging for the release. If you prefer the limited edition gold cart, you could always contact Protovision and let them know that RGN said it is ok for your to pre-order that version.

WOW!!! So many new games and upcoming games for the C64!!! TY for the content. Do you know if any other retro computers are getting this much new software?
@RetroGamerNation11 ай бұрын
C64 would definitely be leading the way. ZX Spectrum has reduced a little since the world came out of lockdowns, Amstrad and MSX only see activity during respective dev competitions, the Amiga scene is missing originality, VIC 20 scene is ok while Plus/4 is a bit anaemic. Saying this, the C64 does suffer a lot from shovelware quality titles as well, which is not helped by youtubers and bloggers providing coverage on them as if they were the next greatest thing.

Louie, shall you be covering some retro Atari 8-bit games in the coming months, with the imminent release of The 400 Mini? As for Yeti Mountain ... it looks like a game with a lot of depth and replay value
@RetroGamerNation11 ай бұрын
As I write this, I would not be inclined to be covering Atari 8-bit as there are already plenty of people on this bandwagon, and further I'd rather not split my audience. It is one thing to cover a little bit of Amiga and Vic-20 for example, but to jump to another brand all together is more likely to alienate existing viewership.

@@RetroGamerNation You've a real knack for cut-through, honest and informative commentary, which can be applied toward reviews upon other systems. Fair enough with your leanings ... although keep in mind, your channel isn't called "Commodore Gamer Nation"

What physical media are these games made for, do they load from a floppy disk or cartridge?
@RetroGamerNation11 ай бұрын
Depends on the game. Where the digital image is in a D64 format then these could be transferred onto a floppy disk. If the digital image is a CRT then you would be looking to use a modern day storage emulation cartridge such as the Kung Fu Flash or Ultimate II+. Unless you are specifically looking for the most authentic experience of using a 1541 or 1571 disk drive, I would recommend you initially invest in a Kung Fu Flash cart as this will also load D64 and PRG file images. Ultimate II+ is the top of the range and can do more, including playing multi-load/multi-disk games but is a lot pricier and supply is often limited.

NEWB ALERT - got my Commodore 64 when I was 11 in 1984. I'm 50 now! 😕Always had a huge soft spot for it. But, how are these games made and how can you play? Are they using C64 architecture and coding but with unlimited memory? No way this stuff is 64k, right? Anyway, I'm just pleased I still love this stuff in Commodore 2024 🙂

Whaaaat!!!!!!!! C64 Tetris WITHOUT the legendary Wally Beben haunting soundtrack!?!?!? This is a SACRILEGE. It's like ditching Rob Hubbard's score for COMMANDO!?!? The idea to put a 26 MINUTE soundtrack in a C64 game is what made it go from a 'port' to a work of art that completely stands on it's own. ...only to DITCH IT for 'snazzier' graphics!?!?!?! YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME. AS A 'JOURNALIST' YOU NEED TO CALL B.S. TO STUFF LIKE THIS AND BRING THIS SORT OF CRASS MOLESTATION OF CLASSICS FRONT/CENTRE IN THE RETRO GAMING WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!
