Thanks for the feedback Dan. The format used comes after doing a bit of analysis on the videos I previously published and noticed that all videos focused on a single game would only get (on average) about 3 to 4 minutes of viewing irrespective of how long the video was. So the Round Up magazine format works best as it not only retains longer views but it actually attracts people to the current C64 scene - which is the primary objective.

The whole purpose of this Award is to get the community interested and support new game development in the C64. This way we get more commercial grade titles to go with the public domain quality titles

I personally, highly enjoyed (and frequently recommend) Mancave - definitively top 10 material to me (then again, I thoroughly enjoy the plot and gameplay of it, as it scratches not just the nostalgic itch, but also I find it being 'so perfectly 80s', well adapted for 2019)

It does look good and deserves more praise than received. At times i feel that there is an anti Icon 64 sentiment that is not deserved. Trevor and team are not looking to make revolutionary games but rather they provide their own take on an established game which i quite enjoy on most occasions

precinct dead 20 looks fab too maybe gameplay a little repetitive for not making top 10 ?
@RetroGamerNation5 жыл бұрын
Valid point, though the repetitiveness becomes more of an issue due to the slower speed of movement. Precinct 20 would be on a higher level if it moved around like Predator for example
@Jammet5 жыл бұрын
I really tried liking it, especially considering that it was a sort of survivaly game, and I enjoy the genre. Buuut the pacing felt too slow, the without a manual I would not know what to do in many places. There were places where you can walk through (doorways) that weren't really discernible as such, to me. I tried to understand the layout of the places, to no avail. It felt like I was constricted to aimlessly walking about, even if it isn't. It's a problem I typically have with much older games.

The most impressive thing, to me, about the winner is that the programmer is a woman. There are way too few female game programmers, and even fewer female RETRO game programmers. Kudos to Sarah Jane Avory! You beat the odds (and every dude on the list)!

Sarah did a great job with her shooter and, as this poll showed, she has a large loyal following

@@RetroGamerNation Another of my all-time favorite retro games was programmed by a woman: River-Raid. One of the smoothest scrolling games ever seen on the 2600. The arcade game "Centipede" was also programmed by a woman (Dona Bailey along with her partner Ed Logg) and that stole many rolls of quarters from me as a lad!

I love the PETSCII Digiloi graphics! It has a real "WOW" factor. The action seems really cramped, though ... maybe it could have been better with scrolling. You could do a lot of PETSCII parallax scrolling, I think.
@JustWasted3HoursHere4 жыл бұрын
I think "Forbidden Forest" on the C64 uses a similar trick to accomplish parallax scrolling: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGmZp5ivnq6WiZo
